Title of the Project:

Study on Drugs and Their Abuse

Certificate
This is to certify that [Student’s Name], a student of Class XII, has successfully completed the
Biology Project titled “Study on Drugs and Their Abuse” under my supervision in the academic
session 20XX–20XX. The work is original and carried out with sincere effort.

Introduction
Drug abuse is a major problem affecting the youth and society at large. Drugs are chemical
substances that alter the functioning of the body and mind. While some drugs are used for
medicinal purposes, their misuse can lead to addiction, health problems, and social issues. This
project aims to study the causes, effects, and preventive measures of drug abuse.

Objectives
• To understand the meaning of drugs and drug abuse.
• To identify commonly abused drugs and their effects.
• To study the physical, mental, and social consequences of drug abuse.
• To suggest preventive and control measures.

Commonly Abused Drugs

Drug Category Effects
Alcohol Depressant Liver damage, loss of coordination
Nicotine Stimulant Cancer, respiratory & heart diseases
Cannabis Hallucinogen Impaired memory, brain function
Cocaine Stimulant Anxiety, hallucinations, heart issues
Heroin Depressant Highly addictive, damages nervous system
Prescription Drugs Varied Addiction when misused

Observations
• Students and youth are more vulnerable to drug abuse.
• Peer pressure is a major cause.
• Long-term drug use leads to dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
• Families and society are deeply affected by an individual’s addiction.

Results and Discussion

The study reveals that drug abuse is a growing concern due to stress, peer pressure, and easy
availability. It not only affects health (liver failure, lung cancer, brain damage) but also leads to
social problems like crime, unemployment, and family breakdown.

Conclusion
Drug abuse is a dangerous practice that needs to be controlled. Awareness, strong willpower,
family support, and government policies are essential to fight against this menace.

Preventive Measures Suggested

• Awareness programs in schools and colleges.
• Counseling and rehabilitation centers for addicts.
• Stricter laws against illegal drug trafficking.
• Support from family and friends to overcome addiction.
• Promotion of healthy lifestyles and extracurricular activities.

Bibliography
• NCERT Biology Class XII textbook.
• Reference books on Human Health and Disease.
• WHO reports on drug abuse.
