First Reading: Genesis 18: 1-10a
1 And the Lord appeared to him in the vale of Mambre as he was sitting at the door of his
tent, in the very heat of the day.
2 And when he had lifted up his eyes, there appeared to him three men standing near him:
and as soon as he saw them he ran to meet them from the door of his tent, and adored
down to the ground.
3 And he said: Lord, if I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away from thy servant:
4 But I will fetch a little water, and wash ye your feet, and rest ye under the tree.
5 And I will set a morsel of bread, and strengthen ye your heart, afterwards you shall pass
on: for therefore are you come aside to your servant. And they said: Do as thou hast
spoken.
6 Abraham made haste into the tent to Sara, and said to her: Make haste, temper together
three measures of flour, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7 And he himself ran to the herd, and took from thence a calf very tender and very good,
and gave it to a young man: who made haste and boiled it.
8 He took also butter and milk, and the calf which he had boiled, and set before them: but
he stood by them under the tree.
9 And when they had eaten, they said to him: Where is Sara thy wife? He answered: Lo,
she is in the tent.
10a And he said to him: I will return and come to thee at this time, life accompanying and
Sara thy wife shall have a son.

ALLELUIA
Gospel: Luke 10: 38-42
38 Now it came to pass as they went, that he entered into a certain town: and a certain
woman named Martha, received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sitting also at the Lord’s feet, heard his word.
40 But Martha was busy about much serving. Who stood and said: Lord, hast thou no care
that my sister hath left me alone to serve? speak to her therefore, that she help me.
41 And the Lord answering, said to her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful, and art
troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken
away from her.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today’s Gospel brings us into the home of two sisters—Martha and Mary. Jesus is
welcomed into their house, and we witness two very different responses to His presence.
Martha, the ever-busy host, moves about with concern, preparing, cleaning, serving.
Mary, on the other hand, sits quietly at Jesus’ feet, listening to His words.
At first glance, Martha’s frustration seems reasonable. After all, she’s doing the work to
make Jesus feel at home, while her sister appears to be doing nothing. She finally speaks
out: “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work? Tell her to help
me!”
But Jesus, with tenderness, replies:
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. Only one thing is
necessary. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken from her.”
This moment is not a rejection of Martha’s service—it is a redirection of her heart.
1. The Call to Stillness in a Busy World
Like Martha, many of us live lives filled with noise, tasks, and deadlines. We are
constantly busy—often doing good and necessary things—but sometimes at the cost of
our inner peace. Jesus doesn’t condemn Martha for serving; He calls her attention to the
deeper truth: her worry and distraction are keeping her from truly being present with
Him.
We all need to serve. But we also need to stop and listen. Prayer, reflection, and silence
are not optional extras in our faith—they are the one thing necessary.
2. Mary Chose “the Better Part”
Mary represents the contemplative heart—the soul that pauses to listen, that sits in
stillness at the feet of the Lord. In choosing to be with Jesus, she reminds us that intimacy
with God should never be overshadowed by even the most well-intentioned busyness.
Jesus didn’t say Mary chose the only part—but the better part. Because before we can
serve others well, we must first be filled by Him.
3. Balance: Action and Contemplation
The Church needs both Marthas and Marys—those who serve and those who pray. But
even Martha needed to become more like Mary. The challenge is not to abandon activity
but to allow prayer to guide our actions. A heart rooted in Christ leads to service that is
not anxious, but joyful.
So what can we take home today?
If your heart feels overwhelmed by tasks, if your soul feels distracted by life’s demands—
Jesus invites you to sit for a while at His feet. To listen. To rest. To simply be.
In a world that glorifies productivity, may we remember this gentle truth:
We are not loved because of what we do. We are loved because of who we are in God’s
presence.
Let us not be afraid to choose the better part—and trust that in that sacred stillness, we
will find everything we truly need.
Amen.

Let us profess our faith
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
Priest: My dear friends, god is the god of blessings that is why we are here trusting in his
mercy and love we now present to him our prayers and we say “Lord, receive our prayer”
Response: Lord, receive our prayer.
May we be a Church of compassion and insight, finding ways to alleviate suffering, moving
beyond boundaries and borders to respond with generous love,
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.
May victims of crime and prejudice find healing. May immigrants be welcomed and treated
with care. May there be reconciliation and peace wherever there is division, suffering or
violence.
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.
For the addicted, sick, dying and grieving. May they know tenderness, love and human
warmth.
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.
Strengthen all who provide continued care for others: people who work in outreach,
medicine or social ministries; to prisoners; the homebound; all who suffer from want,
neglect or depression.
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.
For our own community. May this Boilermaker weekend be a time of safety and
refreshment for all.
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.
For the prayers and intentions that we offer in silence.
We ask: Lord, receive our prayer.

Preface Dialogue:
Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty and salvation, always and everywhere to give you
thanks, Father most holy, through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, your Word through
whom you made all things, whom you sent as our Savior and Redeemer, incarnate by the
Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin. Fulfilling your will and gaining for you a holy people, he
stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion, so as to break the bonds of death and
manifest the resurrection. And so, with the Angels and all the Saints we declare your
glory, as with one voice we acclaim:
Sanctus
Commentator:Please kneel
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.. Who loved the human race and
who always walked with us on the jpurney of our life blessed indeed is your son who is
present in our midst when we are gathered by his love and when as once for the disciples
so now for us he opens his scriptures and breaks the bread therefore father most merciful
we asked that you send forth your holy spirit to sanctify these gifts of bread and wine
that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion, he took bread
and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT: FOR THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP
FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more giving
thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR
YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
The mystery of faith
When we eat this bread
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection, we offer you,
Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking of the
Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember,
Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Leo our Pope and Jose Elmer our Bishop and all the clergy.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the
resurrection and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of your
face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of
God, with blessed Joseph, her Spouse,* with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints who
have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and
may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.

Post-Communion Prayer (by the Priest)
Based on Matthew 12:1–8
Let us pray.
Lord God,
you have nourished us with the Body and Blood of your Son,
who is the Lord of the Sabbath and the Bread of Life.
As we have received this holy sacrament,
fill our hearts with your mercy and free us from the spirit of judgment.
Help us to walk always in compassion,
to see with understanding eyes,
and to serve others with the love that reflects your own.
May this Eucharist strengthen us
to live not by rigid law but by living faith—
a faith that feeds the hungry, comforts the weary,
and honors your presence in every person we meet.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Priest: May almighty God bless you,
the Father, and the Son,
+ and the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.
Go in peace
THANKS BE TO GOD
