NASA

Good afternoon dear teachers and my fellow classmates. Today I Shrida

Sharma will represent my topic, NASA, in front of you all.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an

independent agency of the U.S. federal government responsible for the civil
space program, aeronautics research, and space research. Established in
1958, NASA succeeded the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics
(NACA) to give the U.S. space development effort a distinctly civilian
orientation, emphasising peaceful applications in space science. The current
administrator is Bill Nelson, appointed by the President, Joe Biden, from May
3, 2021. NASA Headquarters is located in Washington, D.C. There are 10
NASA centres across the United States. There are also seven smaller NASA
work places where they test and study Earth and space. More than 18,000
people work for NASA. Astronauts may be the best-known NASA
employees, but they only represent a small number of the total workforce.
Many NASA workers are scientists and engineers. But people there hold
many other jobs, too, from secretaries, writers, lawyers to teachers. There
have been so many missions but only a few are famous like Project Mercury,
Project Gemini, the 1968–1972 Apollo Moon landing missions, the Skylab
space station, curiosity,Opportunity and perseverance rover, Voyager 2, and
the Space Shuttle. Some missions that are still active on which NASA is still
working at are-International Space Station, Commercial Resupply Services,
Artemis, Commercial LEO Development,, Hubble Space Telescope and the
Commercial Crew Program. In response of the Apollo 1 accident, which killed
three astronauts in 1967, NASA collaborated with different space
organisations like National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA),
European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA),
Roscosmos, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the China
National Space Administration for the safety of the astronauts. Due to NASA’s
missions which costs around 100 million to 1 billion dollars and years of hard
work, we are able to research and see our vast and beautiful galaxy in a small
tab we call a phone.

Thank you
