Primarily I would thank God for being able to complete this project with success. Then I would

have been the one that helped me patch this project and make it full proof success. This

the project.

ABSTRACT

In the competitive/harsh business environment, Entrepreneurs are faced with many problems

which make it difficult for some of them to survive or grow. Some Entrepreneurs lack

managerial competence whereas they believe in their ability rather than gaining the needed

knowledge and managerial skills even when it is obvious they needed more managerial training.

This paper examined three research objectives; first, it to ascertain the effect of managerial

competence on business mortality. Second, determine the effect of managerial skills on

employees efficiency, third, it examine the effect of managerial skills on SMEs performance. A

cross-sectional design was adopted for this study. The study employed statistical tools which

include: analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation efficient and regression analysis in testing

hypotheses. Statistical package for the social sciences, (SPSS) was employed. The population of

the study is selected SMEs in Abeokuta Ogun State. Copies of questionnaire were administered

to get primary data that treated and tested appropriate research questions and hypotheses

accordingly. The findings of this research have shown that Managerial Competence affects

SMEs Business Mortality, also, Managerial Skills affect Employees Efficiency and Managerial

Skills affect SMEs Performance. Thus, training and development of the entries employees should

be encouraged so as to change the out dated skills and communicate the essence of good

managerial skills, and discard wrong assumptions. Above all placing an individual or manager in

position where he is competent enough to manage.
