Act I: The Conviction

Act I, Scene I:
The Courtroom Scene
[The scene fades in. The atmosphere is tense, and we see people assembled in what appears to be a
courtroom. A judge sits atop their dais, looking stern, nearly imposing. The audience plays the role of the
jury, while the prosecutors and defendants assemble for opening statements. The tension between the two
parties is palpable.]

(Judge): “Order in the Court! Carter vs. Grayson mein hum sab se pehle plaintiff ki baat se shuru karein
ge.”

(Tehreem) [Plaintiff’s Attorney]: “Shukriya, Judge sahab. Maire paas is waqt kehne ko kuch zyada hai
nahi, kyun ke maire saboot, or Miss Carter ke jazbaat meri baat ko wese hi kaafi wahze kar dete hain. Is
dunya ke andar aap aik akele insaan to nahi hote, na? Aap ko dusron ke saath milna hota hai, logon se
baatein karni hoti hain, or un ke beech mein rehna hota hai. Lekin agar aap unhi logon ke liye aik khatra
ban jaye, un ki hi jaan to mushkil mein daal de, or apne saath rehne walon ke liye aik bojh ban jayen, to
phir kya? To phir kya aap ko aisa karne ki ijaazat milni chahiye, Judge sahab? Koi bhi samajhdar insaan
meri baat ka haami ho ga, aur ye maane ga ke sab ki bhalai ke liye, aik ko chot puhanchana buhut choti
baat hoti hai. Issi liye, aaj hum sab ki bhalai ke liye, hum Miss Carter ki zehni halat ko aap ke saamne

(Judge): “Kya aap ki baat khatam ho chuki hai?”

(Tehreem): “Ji, Judge sahab. Aap sab ka mujhe sun ne ke liye Shukriya.”
(Judge): “To phir ab hum defendants ke upar gor karte hain. Aap apna bayaan shuru kar sakte hain.”
(Lawyer): “Judge sahab, maire khayal agar hum gawahaan ki taraf chale, to behtar hoga.”
(Judge): “Matlab aap jury ke saamne apna case nahi rakhna chahte?”
(Lawyer): “Maaf kijiye ga, Judge sahab, lekin hume aage bharna chahiye.”
(Judge): “Chalein, aap ka case, aap ki marzi. Defendant konse gawah ko stand pe bulana chahe ga?”
(Lawyer): “Ji, main Lily Grayson se puch tach karna chahun ga.”
(Judge): “Dr. Grayson, aap idhar tashreef layain.”
(Dr. Grayson): “Ji, Judge sahab.”
(Lawyer): “Aap ke paas Miss Carter ki dimaghi halat ko sabit karne ke liye kya saboot hai?”
(Dr. Grayson): “Is sawaal ka koi jawaaz to nahi banta, kyun ke inn ki harkatain dekh ke hi humain unka
zehni haal nazar aa hi raha hai. Laikin maine Judge sahab ke saamne kuch reports, jo Miss Carter pe kiye
gaye jaane wale tests ke results hain, rakhwayi hain, jin ke mutabik ye BPD, yaani Bipolar Personality
Disorder, ka shikaar hain. Ye aik boht sandjeeda baat hai, jis pe dehan dena nehayet zaroori hai. Is ke
saath saath, ye pehle depression ka bhi shikar reh chuki hain, aur-”

(Miss Carter): “Nahi! Ye jhoot bol rahi hai! Mai-mai pagal nahi houn, khuda ke waaste, mera yakeen
kijiye! Is aurat ko mere se hamesha aik masla raha hai aur ye-ye mujhe phasaane ki koshish kar rahi hai.
Judge sahab, please, aap ko meri baat sun ni pare gi, mai-”

(Judge): “Bas! Ye court hai ya machli mandi, ke koi jab bhi chahe kuch bhi bolna shuru karde? Miss
Carter, aap ko adalat ki izzat karna aata hai ke nahi? Ya phir tameez ke maamle mein aap thori kamzor
hain? Baithiye, aur ab agar maine aapke moun se bina baat ke aik bhi lafz suna, to mai idhar hi aap ke
khilaf faisla suna dun ga.”

(Miss Carter): “Aap ko-aap meri baat ko samjhiye, please-”

(Judge) ─ “Bas boht hua. Mr. Lawyer, ya to aap apne client ko sambhale, ya mai sambhal lun ga. Ab
agar in ka shor khatam ho gaya ho, to mai Dr. Grayson ki di gayi reports parna chahun ga.”

[Saying this, the Judge moves to lift up the papers placed on his table, studying them intently. Through
this entire proceeding, Evelyn proceeds to grow more and more restless, with a harried look in her eyes.
Her lawyer grabs her by the shoulder and tries to calm her down, saying words of affirmation in a low
tone. Dr. Grayson is still in the stand, looking grim, with a hint of triumph in her mein, head tilted high.
When the Judge looks up again, there is resignation in his tone, and he throws Miss Carter a dirty look.]

(Judge) ─ “Ye sab parhne ke baad mujhe nahi lagta ke is maamle ko aur barhane ki zaroorat hai. Inn
reports ke saaf zahir hota hai ke Miss Carter ko thori...madad ki zaroorat hai. Mai Dr. Grayson se sehmat
hote hue, ye faisla sunata hun, aur defendant ko Blackwood Asylum jaane ki ijaazat data hun, jab tak ke
inn ki halat behtar na ho sake.”

[The Judge bangs his gavel, and two orderlies' step inside as Dr. Grayson nods, looking smug. She does
not move from the stand. Miss Carter’s lawyer looks surprised and yet does nothing, while she herself
starts to panic, and when the guards sidestep the lawyer and grab her arms, she starts screaming and
kicking, telling them to let go, hysterically. The scene fades out.]

Act I, Scene II:

Taken to asylum
Thunder roars in the sky as the orderlies drag Evelyn towards the door of Blackwood Asylum, standing
tall with a menacing aura.

Evelyn: “Nahi, Mat Karo aise, mujhe yahan Mat choro” (tears in her eyes and face filled with fear as
she reaches near the door)
Orderlies shove her inside
Orderly: “Apna mooh bandh rakho, tum Jaise Paglo ke Lia yehi jaga hai.” (he says with a look of
disgust)
Evelyn tries to get back up and push open the door, but the orderlies overpower her, leaving her in the
asylum alone. Evelyn cries, furious at her helplessness and vows to have her revenge.

Evelyn: “(crying) Lily main tumhe zinda nahi choru gi, mujhe yahan se nikalna hai, koi mujhe yahan se
nikale.... koi......”
The scene ends as Evelyn cries leaning against the door as if she would forever be in that state of
desperateness

Act I, Scene III:

Interaction with Lila
Evelyn walks in and sees many small round tables and chairs around them, and she notices a bunch of
people acting in strange mannerisms. A woman sits in one corner, muttering, two guys on the table in
front of her but as she goes to a table on the opposite side, a strange girl starts talking to her.

Lila: “Meri pyaari behen, tum kaha thi (hysterically) tum Kal nahi thi aur main ghabrah gai” (changes to
a cynical, tone saying this while slightly tilting her head)

Evelyn: “Ki...Kya? Tum kaun ho?” (confused)

Lila: (laughs) “Areee......(chuckle) Rabia tum Kal nahi ai na......ye buhut galat baat hai....”
Evelyn: “Ruko Zara, mujhe lagta hai tumne mujhe kisi aur ke Lia samajh Lia hai, Mai Rabia...”
Lila: “Chup! Batao mujhe phir, Kya waqt peeche jata hai ya aage?”
Evelyn: “hai?”
Lila: “Kya insaani dimag Shura se kharaab hota hai ya log ahista ahista pagal hote jate hain?”
Evelyn: “Tumhare saath Kya masla hai, kesi batein Kar rahi ho??”
Lila: “Zyada nahi larte, Larna bura, larna Matlab wo a jaein gey,” (as if her head is in the clouds)
Evelyn holds Lila by placing her hands on her shoulders

Evelyn: “Kya...phir se batao, kon ajaen gey?”

Lila: (laughs maniacally)
Evelyn watching Lila laugh, fearfully takes a step back, and as Lila leaves frolicking and tracing
something in the air with her fingers, the terrified Evelyn goes to the seat she was moving to, sits down
and tries to comfort herself. Now full of fear, she looks like Martha except aside from muttering her, her
hands and feet shake uncontrollably. Then she hears a voice from beside her, it was one of the guys she
had seen previously before

Henry: (sitting on the chair besides Evelyn) “Pehla din sab ke Liye mushkil hota hai.”
Evelyn turns around to look at him

Henry: (smiling) “Magar pareshan Mat hona, tum aik din is sab ki aadi ho jao gi, meri Tarah.”
Evelyn: “nahi!”
Henry: “Nahi?” (Staring into Evelyn's eyes) “tumhe Pata hai na ke tum yahan se nahi nikal sakti, is
Liye ye jaga banai gai thi, tum or mujh jaise pagal logo ke Lia jo aam mashray ke asool ke mutabik khabi
bhi nahi chal paein ge.”

Evelyn: “Mujhe yahan pe jhoote ilzam laga kar dala Gaya hai, samajh ai, mujhe yahan nahi rehna chahti
houn aur main yaha se nikal ke hi rahu gi.” (with an assertive but desperate tone)

Henry: (chuckle) “Kehti raho magar aakhir mein Hamari Tarah hi ho jaogi, aur tum isse rok nahi sakti,
(devilish smile) Evelyn”
Henry gets up and moves towards the door as Evelyn calls put to him

Evelyn: “.... aik minute tumhe Mera naam kaise Pata chala.” (with a pang of realization)
The scene ends as Henry is seen walking away while Evelyn heads back to her room.

Act I, Scene IV:

The bedroom scene
Evelyn is seen walking into her room and closing the door, then walking at a slow pace got her side table
where she had placed a bag and took out a diary and pen. She sits down on the bed and scribbles
something down then leaves it there and slowly moves in an unsure and slow manner towards a cracked
mirror. She looks at her reflection.

Evelyn: lily (revengeful tone)

Act II: The buried Past

Act II, Scene I:
The lunchroom scene
Evelyn comes in through the door to the lunchroom which is quite like the hall room except now the
tables are square shaped. She notices no one is eating besides Henry who seems to be eating an apple. The
others just have glasses of water and as she sits, she sees as Victor throws his glass on the floor and starts
fighting the orderlies again....another violent outburst. She starts to scribble in a diary, when Henry comes
offering her an apple

Henry: “Ye lo! (he says sitting down) bhuke rehne se tum zyada jaldi pagal ho jao gi......”
Evelyn hesitates

Henry: (noticing her hesitation) “Tumhe aye hue 3 din ho gaye hai aur tumne mushkil se kuch khaya
hai .... Khalo”

Evelyn: (taking the apple) “Shukriya”

Henry smiles watching her eat then says
Henry: “Tum....”
Evelyn glances at him and he glances back at her

Henry: “Tum agar pagal nahi hogi to mere liye yeh buhut Khushi ki baat hogi”
Evelyn: “Tumhare Liye?? Kya Matlab??”
Henry stops looking at her

Henry: “Jab main 12 saal ka tha to mujhe yahan bhej dia Gaya tha, Maine kafi pagal logo ko dekha is
asylum mein jo tumhari Tarah the aur aakhir kar woh apni insaaniyat kho gae......”
Evelyn watches interested

Henry: “Wo log mere dost hote the magar pagal hone ke baad.......Lila bhi.... Lila bhi un mein se aik hai”
Evelyn: “Hai? Sachi mein? Wo bhi?”
Henry: (chuckles at Evelyn's reaction) Haan, wo bhi
Evelyn: “to phir...”
Evelyn was about to say something when the door burst open, and a few orderlies come in. One of them
points to her and they go and drag her away

Evelyn: “Ruko Zara! mujhe kaha leke jarahe ho..... kuch bolo, batao mujhe!”
The orderlies don't answer, and the scene ends as they leave through the door

Act II, Scene II:

The Therapy Scene 1
The orderlies bring Evelyn into a well-furnished room, with a table in the middle and two chairs on
opposite sides. A woman sits on one side, and she nods at the orderlies after which they go back leaving
Evelyn standing.

Dr. grey: “Please, Evelyn aao or yahan baitho”

Evelyn does as she said hesitating

Evelyn: “Mujhe yahan kyun laya Gaya hai”

Dr. grey: “Aap ko nahi Pata.... ap ke her 3 din ke baad therapy sessions Hua Karen gain, ap ki madad
Karne ke Liye take aap behter ho sake”

Evelyn: (chuckles in disbelief) “main pagal nahi hu?!”

Dr. grey: “Well, mera naam dr. grey hai aur aaj main yehi cheez dekhne ai houn.”
Evelyn rolls her eyes

Dr. grey: “Batao Evelyn, court ke doraan tumne Ms. Lily ko jhoota Bola tha, Haina?”
Evelyn: “Haan, kyun ke woh jhooti hai”
Dr. grey: “Magar aisa kaise ho sakta hai, Ms. Lily aik renowned psychiatrist hain aur is hospital ki
bakaida warden bhi hain...aur Maine jaha tak suna hai, ap aur Lily buhut ache dost the....Kam az Kam
apke ami Abu ne to yehi kaha”

Evelyn: (Staring into the eyes of the doctor...then she slowly starts staring down)
Act II, Scene III:
The Flashback scene
It's a classroom and there are chairs and a whiteboard. It's breaktime, so most kids are gone and some of
their bags are left open. Lily and Evelyn are both on their chairs, studying. A girl named May comes in.

May: “Hey, tum log abhi bhi science ka Kam Kar rahe ho?”
Evelyn and lily watch her and a tiny but panicked get up from their seats

Evelyn: “Haan wo bus sociology ka khatam Karle, aaj darasal hum dono ke ami Abu aik hi dawat par
jarahe haina?”

Lily: “Haan, tumhe to Hamara Pata hai na, May.”

May: “Haan Haan, the main character duo, tum dono ke par dada dadi bhi dost waghaira the aur ab tum
bhi ho...is ke saath saath sports aur Parhai mein bhi to wah kardete ho... waise aaj to weekday hai, to tum
logo ko nahi Jane dete aise na, aaj kyun.?”

Lily: “Oh wo kyun ke hum dono ke Abu ka saath aik business hai, tumhe bataya tha maine, yaad hai?”
May: “Haan.”
Lily: “Bas us se related Shayad kuch hai.”
May: “Acha acha theek hai, main jarahi hu canteen, ok?”
Evelyn and lily: “ok, bye.”
May leaves the room and the atmosphere becomes grim as lily turns to Evelyn

Lily: “Main ye natak apne baba ki izzat bachane ke Liye (full of anger) kar rahi houn, bilkul bhi ye na
sochna ke main bhool gai tumhare baba ne Kya kya...”

Evelyn: “Lily Dekho, meri baat suno...”

Lily: “Apna mooh bandh rakho, tumhare baba tumhari Tarah hi jhoote hai warna is tarah ka dhoka kaun
deta hai.”
“Lily goes and slams her pencil on her desk and leaves the room in rage.”

Act II, Scene IV:

The Flashback Ends Scene 1

Dr. grey: “Evelyn? Evelyn? (Slightly louder) EVELYN(Loud).”

Evelyn: “huh? Kya... Kya Hua.”
Dr. grey: “Kahan gum ho gai thi? mere sawal ka jawab nahi Dena? Tum ne aisa kyun kaha? Lily ke bare
mein?”

Evelyn: .... uhhhh.....

The clock alarm rings

Dr. grey: (watching the clock) “Lagta hai Hamara aaj ka time khatam ho Gaya, (turning her eyes to
Evelyn) tum ab jaa sakti ho.”
Evelyn: “...Haan, Acha main jaa rahi houn.”
As Evelyn leaves, Dr. grey stares at her in a look of interest wanting to know the whole story.
As Evelyn reaches the door handle, she turns around before leaving and speaks

Evelyn: "main unki tarah nahi hun, mujhe yahan nahi hona chahiye hai."

Act III: The unexpected Visit

Act III, Scene I:
The Visit of Danielle Scene
A girl, who is well-dressed, enters the asylum with a look of worry on her face. Standing before the door,
she gulps, hoping that Evelyn is not actually crazy.
Danielle and Evelyn sit on opposite sides of a chair, holding hands, both with teary eyes and 4 orderlies,
two behind each are watching them carefully with guns in their hands in case Evelyn loses her mind.
Evelyn stares at them while holding Danielle's hands and says:

Evelyn: “Humari itni Der baad mullakat ko itni show se dekhna chahte ho kya?” (mockingly)
The orderlies annoyed start leaving, and stand outside

Evelyn: “Danielle, yaha aane ke Lia buhut Shukriya... (her voice breaks) main Har...Har kisi ko bar bar
bata chuki hu ke mein pagal nahi houn magar koi mujhe pe yakeen hi nahi Karta (tears leave her eyes)”

Danielle: “Main ab yaha hu Evelyn, pareshaan Matt ho, theek hai......"

Danielle looks at Evelyn saying this, who nods

Danielle: ...... “Evelyn, main tumhari madad karne se pehle aik cheez ka Sach chahti hu, mujhe Pata hai
tum pagal nahi ho sakti, magar tum aur lily dost nahi the? Bachpan se, us ne aise kyun Kia?”

Evelyn: “Danielle......wo...Mai......dekho, jo Mai tumhe batane Wali hu kisi ko Matt batana, theek hai?”
Danielle: (with a look of fear) “ha...Haan, main nahi batao gi”
Evelyn: “Tumhe Pata hai ke hum dono ke Abu kafi kamiyaab businesses chalate hai”
(Danielle nods yes)

Evelyn: “jab hum chatti (6) grade mein the tab unhe Mauka Mila kuch investors ke saath koi la-jawab
deal hasil karne ka magar......Abu chahte the ke unhe sirf paise mile kyun ke investors Abu ke connections
ki madad se ye deal offer Kar rahe the.”
Danielle: “To tumhare Abu ne Saare paise le Liye? Magar phir lily tum se kyun Naraz hai?”
Evelyn: “Dekho lily ke baba ne ye kabhi nahi hone dena tha aur baba ko Pata tha. bas kisi Tarah lily ke
Abu meeting ke doraan apne aap ko sharminda karde to investors ko wo is baat par manwa le ge ke sirf
paisa unhe mile.....
Her voice fades into the background

Act III, Scene II:

The Flashback Starts Scene

Evelyn: “Kya baba lekin main lily ke saath aisa kaise Kar sakti houn, agar hum aisa Karen ge to unki
family apna paisa kho sakti hai, koi investor unke saath kaam nahi Kare ga.

Evelyn's dad: “Dekho mujh pe yakeen Karo Evelyn, itna bura kuch nahi ho ga, theek hai. Tumhe bas lily
ke ghar Jana hai aur us ke baba ke office mein jakar, is meeting se mutalik files, is drive mein transfer
karni hai aur is doosri drive Wali files, laptop mein dalni hai.”

Evelyn: “Magar....”
Dad: “Yakeen Karo mera.” (smiles)
Evelyn: “Theek...theek hai magar main ye sirf is Liye karoun gi kyun ke apne kaha hai ke unhe kuch nahi
hoga....haina?”

Dad: “Haan, zaroor”

Act III, Scene III:
The Flashback Ends Scene 2

Danielle: “Kya (she says a bit too loud) kia? ( realizing her loudness and switching to a softer tone)
tum...tum ne ye kia?”

Evelyn: ...
Danielle: “Ruko, Matlab just din hume Khabar mili ke Lily ke baba ko jail mein daldia Gaya tha, Kya wo
is wajah se...??”

Evelyn: “Haan....maine ya Abu ne koi galti kardi aur........”

Danielle is now having a nervous breakdown

Evelyn: “Danielle?”
Danielle: “Evelyn, tumhe samajh nahi Arahi, lily ab buhut mashoor aur taqatwar ban chuki hai....aur wo
is hospital ki warden hai....mujhe maaf kardo magar.”
Danielle starts getting up from her seat and Evelyn follows suit

Danielle: “Main tumhari madad kar sakti”

Evelyn: “Kya??!”
Danielle: “Dekho agar yeh is tarah ka maajra hai to ye hum dono ko khatre mein dal sakta hai.... dekho
itna bhi bura nahi, yahan rehna, tum Araam se idher reh sakti ho aur main kabhi kabar milne Ajaya
Karoun gi.

Evelyn: (chuckle) “Tum asal mein keh rahi ho?” (her expression changing to maniacal anger) “Tum
aisa nahi Kar sakti?!, Danielle main tumhari Har cheez mein hamesha madad karti thi, main tumhari dost
hu.”

Danielle: Evelyn....
Evelyn grabs hold of Danielle's collar and drags her down to the floor

Evelyn: “Tum aisa nahi Kar sakti, samajh ai, tum aisa nahi Kar sakti.” (she screams)
Danielle: “Bachao, mujhe! Evelyn choro! ruko!” (she wails loudly)
Orderlies come rushing in and start taking Evelyn back. Evelyn's face is towards Danielle.

Evelyn: “Tum aik jhooti aur buzdil aurat ho, Danielle” (in a low tone)
Danielle: “Aur tum Asl mein pagal ho chuki Evelyn, Asl mein......tumhe yahan hi rakha Jana chahiye”
(her voice is breaking and she's fearful)
Evelyn's screams are heard as she's taken away by the orderlies and she yells

Evelyn: “Danielle, main tumhe khabi maaf nahi karoun gi, main pagal nahi hu, mujhe yahan se nikalo!”
The bedroom scene 2
Evelyn barges in her room full of rage and frustration, she sees her bag and throws everything everywhere
then knocks over the lamp. She pants as she covers her ears and falls to her knees, then when she looks to
her right, the cracked mirror. She slowly gets up and walks to it. She looks at her reflection, hearing the
voices of Lila, Henry, orderlies and others in the background calling her crazy, she freaks out

Evelyn: “wo log pagal hai, Mai nahi....Mai pagal nahi hu (her voice starts trembling) Mai pagal nahi hu
(teary eyes) nahi hu main pagal (she screams looking down) kyun mere saath aisa ho raha hai (she says
looking up at the mirror as a very slight desperate chuckle escapes showing her madness) lily (she
screams louder) Tumne mere saath aesa kyun kiya, kya bigara tha maine tumhara.....(she’s on her
knees) main yahan se nikalna chahti houn” (tears escaping her eyes)
The scene ends as we see a crying Evelyn trying her best to cling onto her humanity

Act IV: The Riot

Act IV, Scene I:
Henry’s Plan Scene
The room is a dark and Evelyn lies on the bed with no expression on her face as if she had no heart and
could not feel. At this moment, Henry comes in.

Henry: “Evelyn?”
There is no reply.
Henry: “Evelyn” (he says goes to sit near her on the bed) “Tum Kal khana Khane nahi ai, kuch Hua hai
Kya?

Evelyn: (in a very low tone.... just louder than a whisper) “Nahi, tum chale jao yahan se”
Henry: (sighs) “Dekho tum bar bar aise nahi Kar sakti theek hai, is jaga mein pagal hone se bachne ke
Liye, tum is tarah khud ke saath nahi Kar sakti”
Evelyn gets up immediately

Evelyn: “To phir main Kya karoun! Batao mujhe, mera pas yahan se nikalne ka koi raasta nahi hai, mere
ami, Abu, dost, ......koi mujh par yakeen nahi karta”

Henry: “Main to karta houn na!”

Evelyn: “Kyun?!.... Jahan tak tum jante ho main waqai mein pagal houn!
Henry: .... (stares)
Evelyn: (teary eyes) “Mere paas ab kuch nahi hai” (looks away from henry)
Henry: “main tumhari madad kar sakta hu......”
Evelyn looks at him

Henry: “...mere pas aik tareeqa hai......yahan se nikalne ka”

Evelyn: “Kya? Batao mujhe? Bolo!”
Henry: “Che (6) din baad aik dhamaka ho ga..... aur wo main door toot jaye ga....ye mauka istemaal
karna aur yahan se Bhaag Jana.”

Evelyn: “Tumhe ye kaise Pata?”

Henry: “Bas mera yakeen Karo Evelyn, bas tumhare liye aik mauka (Henry makes 1 with his fingers)
hai. us mauke ko TUMNE (emphasis) haath se jaane nahi dena.”

Evelyn: “Haan, main.... main... yeh mauka haath se jaane nahi doun gi aur main yahan se nikal jao gi....
magar tum?”

Henry: “Main us waqt nahi nikal pao ga.”

Evelyn: “Lekin main tumhe yahan chor ke nahi jaa sakti”
Henry: “Jaa sakti ho, dekho, puri koshish karo! tum.... tum abhi ke Lia bas apne Liye pareshan ho.”
Evelyn: “Hmm theek hai” (teary eyed)
Evelyn says to Henry while giving him a hug

Evelyn: “Henry....tum idher mere sab se ache dost ho..... Shukriya”

Henry: “Koi nahi, Evelyn....main hamesha yahan hi houn” (he says the last part cynically)
The scene ends with them hugging and Henry giving a slight smile
Act IV, Scene II:
The Dream Scene
Evelyn comes to the common room, she sits on a chair and starts writing in her journal, and all the
patients start to gather around her forming a circle, suddenly Martha comes forward.

Martha: (desperately holds Evelyn) “Hum jaisi! hum jaisi! hum jaisi! (Evelyn stares at them in
confusion and fright) pagal pagal pagal.”
Suddenly the whole crowd starts chanting it
Victor laughs loudly alongside Lila whose hands are wailing in the air. Then Evelyn notices Henry who
hasn't joined the circle. His face is the only hint that's slightly tilted towards her, and he is smiling
devilishly.

Evelyn: “Henry? Henry! Meri Madad Karo, Henry!”

Evelyn calls out to Henry, and he reacts. He comes up to Evelyn and asks her to stand up from her seat.
Evelyn hesitantly follows and stands up.

Evelyn: “Tum mujhe yahan se nikalo!” (desperate)

Henry: “Tum jitna jaldi aadi hogi, utna hi behter hoga.” (he says this while looking serious and staring
into her eyes with a devilish smirk)

Evelyn: “MAINE KITNI DAFA KAHA HAI! MAIN PAGAL NAHI HOUN!” (frustrated/crying)
Henry: “Chalo Evelyn, dance karte hai. Tum is se behter mehsoos karo gi.”
Henry holds her by her hand and brings her toward the center of the stage, then he twirls her around and
while twirling, Evelyn leaves Henry and goes to Lila, then a conversation starts between Evelyn and Lila.

Lila: (Dazed and grinning) “Tum aa hi gayi, Rabia.”

Evelyn: (frustrated) “MAIN RABIA NAHI HOUN!!!”
Lila: (pitiful look , sad) “Arre... mujhe laga tum badal gayi ho.”
Evelyn: “Kya matlab?” (confused)
Lila: “Tumhe henry ne kaha nahi ke badal jao, agar tum nahi badli to buhut bura hoga” (scared but still
dazed)
Before the conversation could finish, Lila twirls Evelyn again and now during the twirl, we see a shift in
Evelyn’s persona, Her sanity seems to be slipping from her grip. While twirling, Evelyn ends up with
Victor.

Evelyn: (Dazed and psychotic) “buhut mazedar! aur nacho!!” (she says this while she sees Victor
dancing menacingly and robotically)
Evelyn starts to dance alongside Victor with a hyper demeanor and starts jumping and clapping with a
constant grin.
Victor seems unbothered at first but then Victor takes Evelyn and twirls her again and she ends up with
Martha. Martha seems excited about Evelyn’s arrival as if she’d been expecting her.
Martha and Evelyn do a little waltz and while twirling, Evelyn ends up back with Henry
Henry seeing Evelyn snap and come back to him with a dazed, broken and grinning face, starts to twirl
his hands and looks at them as if he’s inspecting them.
Then, Evelyn starts hearing her inside voice, telling her to wake up.
This scene ends as Evelyn wakes up sweating, realizing it was just a dream.

Act IV, Scene III:

The Escape is Near Scene
It's been 4 days since Henry told Evelyn about the escape plan, and today is the fifth.
Evelyn comes into the hall room and finds Henry alone, reading a book.... she goes to him and sits next to
him.

Evelyn: “Henry.”
Henry: “Evelyn”
Evelyn: “Kya tumhare woh plan jo tumne mujhe bataya tha, us mein ab tak koi masle to nahi ae na, kuch
galat to nahi hoga?”

Henry: “Nahi, mujh pe Thora yakeen rakho, tum bas Kal ke Lia tyaar rehna, Kal 4 baje ye sab Shura
hoga....guards kaam mein lage honge to tum chup chap darwaze se bhaag Jana”

Evelyn: “Haan, mujhe yaad hai”

Henry: “Theek hai, aaj ke Lia zyada ajeeb Matt hona ke koi hum par shaq karne lag jaye
Evelyn: Haan, theek hai, phir main abhi ke Liye wapis jarahi houn apne kamray me
Henry: theek hai.
Evelyn goes back to her room and Henry continues reading

Act IV, Scene IV:

The Escape Scene
Evelyn hears a loud sound, an explosion. She looks at the clock and immediately realizes it's time. She
panicky at first but then she puts her diary and a comb in her bag and runs out her room
In the next part,
Evelyn is about to reach the door when Martha sees her

Martha: tum...tum yahan se nahi jaa sakti.... guards, guards (she screams)
Evelyn's face us full of panic but she turns around towards the door when someone grabs her shoulder

Viktor: main tumhe nahi Janne doo ga....tum jao aur main nahi?
Victor starts dragging Evelyn but she tries to resist. They both fall to the floor and Martha fearful, falls to
her knees and starts muttering again. Victor grabs hold of Evelyn but she kicks him in the stomach, stands
up and almost moves away when an orderly from behind says

Orderly: Don't move or I will shoot you

Evelyn freezes

Orderly: turn around...slowly

Evelyn turns around and a few other orderlies come and cuff her. The same orderly says

Orderly: tumhe laga tha tum itni asani se nikal sakti ho...(chuckle) tumhe warden ab bohot buri saza de
gi....band kardo is se is ke kamray main

Evelyn: (struggles) mahi, nahi, nahi...NAHI (she screams)

The scene ends with orderlies dragging Evelyn away once again but this time she actually looks crazy and
Victor's laughs maniacally while Martha slowly has stopped muttering and watches Evelyn being taken
away.

Act IV, Scene V:

The Breakdown Scene
Evelyn is inside her room which has been locked. It's been 1 day since the incident.....Evelyn sits on the
floor against her bed, her head at her knees

Evelyn: Henry (she starts crying again, her eyes already swollen) kahan ho.....
Evelyn slowly stands up and walks over to the mirror in her room, the corners of her mouth twitch up, she
is smiling

Evelyn: (laughs) Mai wo bhi pagal (laughs) Mai...(tears flow down)

We see Evelyn snap as the scene ends with her laughing.

Act V: The Finale

Act V, Scene I:
The Therapy Session Scene 2
The scene starts with Evelyn and Dr. Grey on chairs both opposite each other with a table in between

Dr. Grey: Evelyn, ham yahan ab kuch der se beeth chuke hai, my apna sawal dohrati hu, mene suna ke
tum ne 2 din pehle bhaagne ki koshish ki, (she adds on) Kya tum is bare me baat karna chahati
Evelyn doesn't reply, just staring down at the floor the whole time

Dr. Grey: Evelyn tumhe mere sawalon ka jawab dena pare ga....Evelyn!
Evelyn slowly starts looking up at Dr. grey with a murderous look on her face. Then she smiles creepily

Evelyn: nahi (she says in a tone unlike herself...unlike a sane human)

Dr. Grey gets terrified and suddenly the clock is heard loudly....the orderlies come in and cuff Evelyn,
then drag her back to her room...by thus time Dr. grey has gotten up from her seat, standing, looking
horrified at what she just witnessed.

Act V, Scene II:

The Confrontation Scene
The scene starts with Lila who had been hiding in Evelyn's room when the orderlies drag her, push her
and lock the door. Evelyn grunts as she goes to her bed and puts her arm on her forehead. Lila slowly
comes out of her hiding spot and sits on a chair

Lila: eve-a-lyn
Evelyn gets up frantically but slows down noticing it's Lila. Lila chuckles

Evelyn: tum kaise ai?

Lila hands her a piece of paper with something scribbled on it

Lila: Henry ne mujhe ye dia, us ne kaha ke tumne ye parchi bhijwai hai......

Evelyn: Henry ne....?.ye waqai me meri writing lag rahi hai
Lila: tum mere saat khelo gi (she says gleefully)
Evelyn: nahi, me aik pagal ke saat kyun kheloun?
Lila: (chuckle) tum bhi ho....(chuckle) pa-gal
Evelyn: nahi main pagal nahi (Evelyn says defensively)
Lila: hmmmm.......bo-ringgggg
Evelyn looks at Lila in frustration then gets up ap and shoes to her knees on the floor where Lila had been
sitting and grasps her shoulder.

Evelyn: Lila (smiles, Lila smiles back) main pagal nahi houn...Main pagal nahi houn.... main (starts
laughing) Main buhut pagal houn (laughing)
Both crazy girls laugh loudly but then the door opens, and Henry comes in,

Henry: Evelyn?
Evelyn stares back at and smiles. Lila walks to put frolicking, and Evelyn follows suit, but Henry grabs
her before she can leave

Henry: tum...tum pagal ho gai ho....Kya Kar rahi ho... main yahan tumhe bachane Aya tha aur tum
Evelyn: Haan!!! Me pagal ho gai houn, Kya Karlo ge??
Henry: Evelyn! Tumhe yaad nahi tumne pehle din yaha aake Kya kaha tha? Aur ab tum bas aise sari
mehnat Zaya Kar rahi ho!?

Evelyn: (chuckle) main pagal nahi houn, Henry, main buhut zyada pagal houn (Laughs maniacally)
Henry looks terrified and leaves as he sees Evelyn continually acting crazy...he closes the door as he
leaves, and Evelyn is left alone.

Act V, Scene III:

The Endgame Scene
The scene opens with nurse ratched comes in with two nurses and two orderlies who comes inside
Evelyn's room which is now a mess, her stuff is all over the place, her bed is done and the lamp light
flickers.

Nurse Ratched: Uthao isse aur nahane leke jao, thori Der baad warden ajae ga is ke liye.
The orderlies and nurses take her to a bath and the orderlies then leave......we see a bucket of water, as one
nurse uses a wet towel to clean Evelyn’s arms(her sleeves pushed backward) another proceeds to wash
her hair by first combing it.
In the next part,
We see Evelyn arriving in an office with art and expensive decor all over it. With Evelyn are Nurse
Ratched and two orderlies. Nurse ratched takes Evelyn's hand and drags her to a chair

Nurse Ratched: yahan betho (Evelyn sits) aur hilna mat.

Then lily comes in the room with a smug look on her face and nods to Nurse Ratched who nods back,
then leaves with the orderlies. Evelyn is looking here and there and lily stares at her for a moment then
begins to sit in her seat.

Lily: Lynnie, kaise jarahe hai tumhare din

Evelyn; (laughs then cries)

Lily: (raises and eyebrow) (chuckle) tum to waqai main pagal ho gai go Evelyn...hmmmm......Henry
andar ajao
Henry comes in

Lily: Kya baat hai, tumne to is ko bilkul hi pagal Bana dia

Henry: Haan, lekin phir koi itna mushkil kaam bhi to nahi tha.... magar tum...
Lily: Haan Haan, paisa tumhare account me dal du gi
Henry puts Evelyn' bad which he was carrying on lily's table

Henry: main uski cheez ikhati kar ke laya houn, Pura Macha Hua tha
Lily takes the bag and opens it then takes out a diary

Lily: ye kya hai?

Henry: Pata nahi, Evelyn is me Har waqt kuch likh rahi hoti thi
Lily: hmmm
Lily opens the diary to the 1st page
Lily: dear diary, main pagal nahi houn...
Evelyn who has been here the while time starts laughing suddenly.
The scene ends as Evelyn's maniacal laugh echoes.
