INSTALLATION
The DMS600 delivery contains the installation program
DMS600_4.4_FP1_Setup.EXE. The installation program includes all the
manuals in PDF format. See more information about the installation program
in Installation Manual.
The license files for customer installations are delivered separately according
to orders. Orders are done using MicroSCADA Pro Sales Configurator.

Demo installation
The demo installation includes a username demo. The username password is
now DEMO with capital letters enabling the same SYS600 demo application to
work with several SYS600 versions.

The DMS600 installation package includes a demo application with all

definitions for both the SCIL API and the OPC interface. However, SCIL-API is
not needed in demo installation. In some cases, when there are several
applications with SCIL API definitions for DMS600, the interface does not start
automatically. In this case, the DMS600 Grouping Tool in SYS600 Tool
Manager must be opened and the Apply button must be pressed to update the
settings.

Additional software before installing

Following software updates or newer versions are required before installing at
least if SQL Server and its tool Management Studio is in use.

1. .NET Framework 4

2. Windows Installer 4.5 (After installation Windows restart is required)

3. Powershell 1.0

4. Restart Windows before installing DMS600

New Windows versions should have these software updates automatically, but
older Windows Server 2003 version may not. You can find these from
http://www.microsoft.com/.

Upgrading from DMS600 4.4

DMS600 4.4 FP1 installation can be run on top of existing installation. During
upgrade installation the new Database Updater -application is used to make

5
1MRS245267
DMS600 4.4 FP1 Release Notes

changes to existing DMS600 database(s). In general, all previous functionality

continues to work without manual changes.

However, OPC client configuration must be finalized after installation using

OPC Configuration tool. For example, for all switching components having
already an OPC address, the used OPC server connection and value mapping
schema must be selected. Default clients and schemas provided in installation
can be most often used but also new ones can be created. In this definition
multi-selection is very useful.

In addition, Service Framework group of services or so called “Pools” must be

defined in case of Hot Stand-By system or if Service Framework is to be run
on multiple servers. For these tasks more information can be found in System
Administration manual.

MAIN NEW FEATURES IN

MICROSCADA PRO DMS600 4.4 FP1

Architectural changes and DMS service framework

Server Application is now running as a service with separate user interface.
FP1 includes also a totally new DMS Service Framework for easily
manageable components. Components include interfaces to other systems
and other isolated server modules. New OPC DA client supporting
authentication is one of those modules. The new Service Monitor provides
monitoring for modules and also user interface to see messages and to make
actions like restarting a module.

Extended AMI/AMR Meter Data Management

Includes following improvements or new features:

1. Controlling the switch of the smart meter. Also other commands can be
configured

2. Resetting group of alarms. Meters sometime fail in resetting after fault is

cleared.

3. Filtering meter events and measurements

4. Easy to re-read group of meters for states and measurements. Reading

all meters under MV/LV substation, from customer search functionality
etc.

5. Performance improvements with large amount of events

6. AMR Manager reliability improvements mainly by simplifying its

functionality.

Fault isolation and restoration improvements

DMS600 4.4 FP1 can use new SYS600 9.4 Sequencer and standard switch
control commands from sequencer. New improvements:

1. Checking that restoration from other feeder succeeded – if not, new

controls are created to return better situation

2. The interface to SYS600 is not using an interface file but has direct
interface to make actions

7
1MRS245267
DMS600 4.4 FP1 Release Notes

3. Makes possible totally automatic operation. Recovers from the error

situations without the user interaction (depending on a setting value)

4. DMS600 performs automatically all controllability checks for the planned

switching operations. It is checking which switches cannot be
controlled now because they are blocked, tagged or communication is
broken. If controllability problem is found possible alternative switches
are searched for the sequence

5. Using load forecast in capacity check (0-5 hours ahead)

6. DMS600 informs VVC module about ongoing faults not to make

interfering parallel controls

7. New FDIR Monitor available in all WS program instances

8. Support for direction information from fault indicators. This is mainly

needed for earth faults in case of radial feeders.

Coordinated Volt-VAr control

Volt-VAr control is the only new license module in DMS600 4.4 FP1-version.
The objectives are:

1. Keeping voltages in limits

2. Reducing losses by minimizing reactive power flows

3. Reducing peak power by voltage reduction

The voltage reduction (conservation voltage reduction, CVR) is an own mode

in the application. In that mode separate voltage limit parameters are used.
The control variables include capacitor bank status and voltage tap changer or
regulator set-point or position. Controllable capacitor banks and transformer
tap changers can be selected in settings and are easy to change. The
application supports both direct control of tap positions and setting voltage set-
points depending on the mode of the controller (automatic / manual). The
mode can be read from SCADA process object.

The application can run without capable load flow calculation using real
voltage measurements via SCADA communication. When good load flow
results are available so called pseudo-measurements can be defined to use
the results from the load flow calculation.

Map Material Improvements

DMS600 now supports projection of network on different coordinate systems
(map datums). Network is stored in database in one datum and each map
material (level) can have own datum. New map loader supports batch

adjustment and conversion from various raster format (.TIFF, .JPG, .PNG) to
used Windows .BMP format.

LV network switching plan management and support for

LV network outage reporting
Switching planning now allows users to plan, simulate and execute controlled
and planned outages also in the LV network. Switching state for low voltage
switches is saved during switching planning. Temporary fusetype changes are
also supported with possibility to restore the original type afterwards. Planning
is integrated to MV network actions and outage reports can be generated
using standard outage and fault report or if the outage is only for low voltage
network, low voltage network outage report is generated.

Cyber Security
There is a security configuration tool located under <installation
directory>\security to harden Windows servers and workstations, see
instructions in the tool (Help page). Cyber Security Guideline for MicroSCADA
Pro products can be found under Manuals directory.

User Activity Logging (UAL) and Central Activity Logging

(CAL)
To be compliant with regulatory standards, such as NERC CIP, software must
log all user activities which can be used for auditing. Such activities include:
Log in (both successful and failed attempts), log out, password changes etc.

Security and user activity events can be sent to external server (Syslog
server) or CAL in ABB SDM600 product can be used to collect the events.

New component (MSCGraph) for curves presentation

New component to present time series data (curves) on screen. The view is
zoomable and hairline is showing detailed values. Curve data can be exported
and also printouts are available.

removed also the transformer from the database.

LV-network

· On some occasions LV Section Multiselection was not working.

· Adding a feeder (fuse) in LV box was not working correctly.

Switch control
· Controlling a truck circuit breaker was not always working correctly.

Outage reporting and fault management

Outage reporting

· Occasionally in the fault report calculation occurred incorrect LV

networks and LV network counts causing the duplicate outage areas to
appear after reopening the report.

Fault management

· Removing reclosing is now added to Outage event log.

· Saving changes in the exact fault location data was not working
correctly in all situations.

· Saving changes in the fault data was not working correctly in all
situations

· In some occasions the “New Fault” Short-Cut Menu command was not
available for the Switching Devices.

Switching planning
· Switching plans along with faults can now be customized and sorted in
outage info bar.

· After changes in the Network model, occasionally the Line State

Changes in the Switching plan were not working correctly, or the plan
changes were not able to be saved.

Network presentation
MV Network

· MV earthings were not shown in a certain case.

LV Network

· Occasionally, LV section points and LV sections were shown incorrectly.

Network analysis

· Occasionally problems in the Meshed Network calculation caused the

program to enter not responding state, or crash

Other
Network planning

· The program crashed in some cases when editing a network plan.

· The program crashed in a certain situation when opening a network

plan.

Condition Data Collection

· Condition Data hierarchy has been ordered

· After a pole was moved with a mouse it couldn’t be moved with GPS.
This has been corrected.

· It was possible to add condition data for transformer if a disconnector

did exist, now no disconnector is needed.

· Condition data editing has been corrected for a pole.

Database connection checker

· It tests the database connection by connecting at certain interval. It
