An investigation into the causes and effects of drug abuse to learners in Chivhu community
2 Statement of intent
The project aims to eradicate problems faced by learners abusing drugs and help give awarenesson the
dangers,causes and effects of drug abuse.
3 Main Idea
Drug abuse is the use of illegal drugs or the use of prescription or over the counter drugs for purposes
other than those for which they are meant to be used or in excess amounts
(i) Causes of drug abuse includes;
- peer pressure
- experimenting
- depression
(ii) The effects of drug abuse are;
_ suicide
- cancer
- stroke
-heart and lung disease

The project will include research on drug abuse through the following;
-data collection

-presentation of findings and recommendations

- give awareness campaigns to learners on how to prevent drug abuse and stop addiction

Stage 4 : Development of ideas
(i) Develop an idea on awareness campaigns
- The people mostly abuse drugs may be peers,school learners,children of the same religion and from
the same area.
-Awareness campaigns are conducted to help people who abuse drugs to feel accepted to the
community.
-Materials to be used include fliers, posters , pamphlets and social gatherings
-Establishing support groups to teach people to welcome drug abusers.
Stage 5 : Presentation of results
-The community used drugs are abused in Chivhu.
-A research was carried out in Bucken hill area in Chivhu a sample of 50 - 80 youths were interviewed
and the pie chart below shows the type of drugs and amount of youths who abuse the type of drug.

The findings of the project clearly indicates the negative effects of drug abuse
-Solutions suggestions will result in the change of attitude and good use of time among
youngsters

Rehabilitation of the affected
Arresting drug dealers
Give support to those under rehabilitation
Teach people about disadvantage of drug abuse
