Holy Hour

This document presents a reflection on the parable of the prodigal son told in the Gospel of Saint Luke. It analyzes the unconditional love of the father towards his two sons and how he completely forgives the son who left and returned repentant. The feast that the father organizes symbolizes the joy of God and the Church when someone returns after having strayed. The attitude of the elder son, who becomes angry, is also compared to that of the Pharisees who criticized Jesus for receiving.

2. INITIAL SENTENCE
Jesus, that our community,
be among those who take risks in their life.
Life is only worth living if it is for the sake of giving it to others.
Do not let pride close us off,
money, fame, selfishness, war,
the fear, the clay idols.

And when you ask us to say who you are,

help us get out of the lack of commitment
and be able to trust in you.
Make us available to fight against injustice,
and trusting in your love, fight for a fairer world.

May our life be a space for meeting,

of relationship and possibilities for all.
We have to acknowledge,
how many times we forget about you and the brothers.
But we know that you are the complete word,
the life that is given and authentic love

3. READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAN
LUCAS

Jesus told them this parable:

A man had two sons; the younger of them said to his father:
Father, give me my share of the fortune.
The father distributed the assets to them.
Not many days later, the youngest son, gathering all his belongings, emigrated to
a distant country, and there he squandered his fortune living recklessly.
When he had spent it all, a terrible famine came upon that land,
and he began to suffer need.
It was then that he contracted with one of the citizens of that country who
he sent him to his fields to tend pigs. He wished to satisfy himself with the
carob pods that the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything.
Recapping then, it was said:
How many of my father's laborers have an abundance of bread, while I
Here I am dying of hunger. I will get up and set off to where
My father is here, and I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer...

I deserve to be called your son: treat me like one of your hired men.
He got up and went to where his father was; when he was still far away,
his father saw him and was moved in his innards; and, starting to run,
she hugged him and covered him with kisses.
His son told him:
Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I am no longer worthy to be called
your son.
But the father said to his servants:
Immediately take out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger
hand and sandals on the feet; bring the fatted calf and kill it;
let us eat and celebrate a feast, for this son of mine was dead
he has come back to life; he was lost, and we have found him.
And they began the banquet.
His eldest son was in the countryside. When he was returning, he was approaching the
house, heard the music and the dance, and calling one of the servants, he
asked what that was.
He answered him:
Your brother has returned; and your father has sacrificed the fattened calf,
because he has regained his health.
He was outraged and didn't want to go in, but his father came out and tried.
persuade him.
Then he answered his father:
Look: in all the years I have served you, never disobeying an order.
you, you have never given me a kid to have a banquet with my
friends; on the other hand, when that son of yours has come who has eaten your
Goods with bad women, you kill the fattened calf.
The father said to him:
Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours: but it was necessary
to celebrate a feast and rejoice, because this brother of yours was
dead and has come back to life; was lost, and we have found him.

4. REFLECTION

The protagonist of the parable is the "man" who has.

children. One of the assets they receive is the freedom to 'leave' and 'enter',
the freedom to enjoy the goods of the rural house or to leave them behind
to lose. The center of the parabola, therefore, is more in the conversion of the son
young man, it is the father's love for his two sons (verses 20-24 and 32). A
love that grants total and unconditional forgiveness to the one who
had gone to never return. In forgiveness, there exists the possibility of
to live together again.
The Father goes out to meet both a son and the other.

of a free man, not of a slave - are signs of the restoration of the
dignity of a son. It is important to keep in mind that the previous situation of
this son was marked by things like "taking care of pigs", work
unacceptable and degrading for a Jew.
In the ancient eastern world, meals were
considered a privileged moment of friendship and communion between
the people. The Pharisees believed that eating with pagans or with
fishermen were a source of ritual impurity. The feast is a sign of love.
of the Father and of the joy of the Church when the Father remakes the
communion.
The Eucharist that we celebrate, a symbol of the Kingdom, is the
place where the older brother is invited to welcome the younger brother.
Joy (verses 23 and 32) is what all people feel who
