ECG Machine - Preventive Maintenance (PM)
Procedure
Our preventive maintenance (PM) for ECG machines is performed annually. We begin with a full
visual inspection of the unit, checking the housing, display, and keyboard for cracks, loose parts, or
other damage. We power on the machine to verify proper boot-up and ensure that the display is
clear with no dead pixels and that all buttons respond correctly. Next, we inspect the patient cable
and lead wires for wear or fraying and replace them if needed. Using an ECG simulator, we verify
that all leads (I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF, and precordial leads V1–V6 if applicable) display correctly
and that waveforms are accurate and free from excessive noise. We test the paper feed
mechanism and print quality by running a sample strip, confirming proper speed and trace clarity.
The battery is checked for capacity and charging function if the device is portable. Finally, we clean
and disinfect the unit, document all results, and place a PM completion sticker with the next due
date.
