WRITING TASK 1

The graph shows the number of people taking parts in 4 kinds of sports in a particular region
between 1985 and 2005.

You should write at least 150 words.

The given graph depicts how many participants there were in 4 different sports in a specific
region from 1985 to 2005, at five-year intervals.

Overall, from 1985 to 1995, rugby was the most popular sport, but it significantly lost its
popularity from 1995 onwards, making tennis the top choice. Meanwhile, basketball and
badminton maintained consistent numbers of players throughout.

In 1985, rugby was the most favored sport in the region, having roughly 250 people playing.
Followed was tennis with precisely 150 players. In addition, the numbers of people taking part in
badminton and basketball were around 80 and over 50, respectively.

From 1985, the number of rugby players witnessed a slight decline to 200 in 1995, then shrank
to 50 at the end of the period. In contrast, that of tennis increased gradually and converged with
rugby in 1995, which then surpassed it to reach approximately 230 in 2005. Finally, badminton
and basketball shared a similar pattern. While both experienced a decline of about 6 in 1990, the
number of players remained stable around 70 and 55, respectively.
WRITING TASK 2
Some students prefer to study alone, while others prefer to study in
groups.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both methods.
You should write at least 250 words.

The question of whether group study surpasses solo learning or vice versa is a perennial debate.
This essay asserts that both methodologies have their merits, focusing on the enhanced
engagement of group study and the personalized pace of individual learning.

Group study is lauded for fostering a dynamic environment where participants can share diverse
perspectives. This collaborative setting gives students an opportunity to have a better grasp of the
topic by discussing it with each other. If one had difficulty understanding a concept, others can
explain it to him/her which is also a chance for him/her to review the material personally.
Moreover, the accountability aspect of group study can motivate students to stay on track and
contribute actively, enhancing their engagement and retention of the material.

Conversely, studying alone offers the flexibility to the schedule, style, and pace of learning,
which can be beneficial for deep concentration and absorption of knowledge. This personalized
approach allows learners to spend more time on areas they find challenging, without the pressure
to keep up with or wait for others. For example, in preparing for subjects that require significant
memorization, such as language vocabulary or scientific formulas, the quiet focus of solitary
study proves to be utterly invaluable. Additionally, this mode eliminates the worry that study
sessions turn into hangout sessions, thus allowing undivided attention to the assignments.

In conclusion, both group and solo studying have distinct advantages that cater to different
learning styles and needs. While group study fosters a collaborative and motivating environment
beneficial for comprehension and retention, solo study allows for customized learning at an
individual pace, minimizing distractions. Embracing the strengths of each method can provide a
holistic approach to learning, thereby enhancing educational outcomes.
