History of The Saw
History of The Saw
According to a Greek legend, the first saw was created by a boy named Perdix.
who, while being an apprentice to his uncle, was inspired to create this tool by looking at the thorn
of a fish.
The saw, by making it easier to cut wood or other materials, enabled humans
build everything.
Beyond the legend, ancient Egyptians used saws more than 5,000 years ago.
It was not until 1777 that Samuel Miller patented the first circular saw in England. Forbes
remember that at some point in the 1900s a resident of the Appalachian Mountains made music to
starting from a saw. These melodies were very popular in the United States between 1920 and
1930.
There can be different types of rib saws, but they all are used
for precision work. They are characterized mainly by having blades
relatively thin and with a fine tooth, which makes it especially useful for working
about veneered wood, moldings, and thin panels.
In any case, the distinctive element of this type of saw is the metal band, which in
any of its modalities are carried on the top part of the sheet. The main function
this metal strip is to keep the saw straight, while also facilitating the cut as
consequence of weight.
Depending on the length of the blade, there are different types of backsaws:
Serrucho for dovetail: reduced version of the traditional model (blade of 200mm and
16-22 ppi.), is used for cutting fine joints in hardwoods.
Saw for dovetail with elbow: it is designed to cut notched spikes and others
similar elements.
