Program of Needs

The document describes the key points of an architectural program of needs. A program of needs establishes the requirements and aspirations of a community through interviews, visits, and surveys. The document then explains several important design criteria such as urban, functional, formal, and technical criteria to determine an appropriate design for the architectural project.

PROGRAM OF NEEDS.

Every architectural project arises from a need. Upon detecting this need and trying to
solving it is when the investigation begins. to resolve said function. The man
requires meeting their needs in all aspects whether utilitarian, emotional or of
of another kind. Therefore, it needs very diverse spaces to fulfill such a purpose.

This program is established following the analysis of the information provided by the
interviews, site visits, and statistical surveys, to be finalized in a program
of qualified and hierarchized needs, in order to determine the spaces required by
the population; where the needs and aspirations of the community are established
demand.

Key points of the program requirements

The program of needs must achieve:

Establish the vision that the promoter has of the project: motivations and expectations.
short, medium and long term, both for the promoter and for the others involved.

Determine the authority in decision-making regarding design and regarding the

costs

Define the functions of the completed building, the uses, and the users.

Expose the practical requirements for the relationship between the proposed spaces,
focusing on performance requirements instead of details.

Establish the design criteria: relationship with the environment, style, materials...

Set budget limits: maximum costs, financing... If available

Feasibility study, the costs defined in it will provide a baseline for
the whole project.

Provide relevant information about the funding context.

Set deadlines: key dates.

To communicate so much information about the current circumstances of the building or land.
as deemed appropriate

ARCHITECTURAL PROGRAM

PROJECT DESIGN CRITERIA.

In order to determine a suitable and specific design for the proposed location, it is
necessary to take into consideration criteria that lead to obtaining the best results in
Regarding functionality, integration, and volumetry, this is why the following are mentioned.
some design criteria.

ARCHITECTURAL CRITERIA

Urban Planning Criteria

All the elements that constitute it must be taken into account. Criteria such as:
road infrastructure, which will help students have easy access to the campus
university student, at the same time the image that is projected will enhance the urban development of the
city, where the project will be carried out. The buildings will be located from north to south to
take advantage of natural ventilation and lighting.

Make the most of the existing vegetation, whether it be trees with greater foliage contributing
to pleasant and cool environments. The trash containers and the loading area and
Downloads will be located next to the parking lot to avoid pollution and noise.
ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE.

Here is defined the entire communication system that a particular project must have.
that through this, the human being has the means for the integration or connection of an area and
another.

FUNCTIONAL CRITERIA.

FUNCTIONALITY.

The spaces will be grouped according to their affinity (public and private) for the good
operation of activities. The functionality of the space is characterized by responding
to the relationship that exists between human activity and the requirements.

The form, based on the action of a space or object, is the essential foundation of architecture.
then we will say that functionality is an essential design criterion, which using
The adequacy of all spaces within the architectural context meets internal needs.
and external factors of the interaction and communication space, mentioning that a solution
functional responds necessarily to both the physical need of the human being and also
that fulfills an educational order.

CIRCULATION.

The circulation criteria are an important part as they regulate the entire system, making
a logical and appropriate trace, this allows direct communication between the exterior spaces
and interiors, designing good circulation would allow for the relationship between man and the
transport move in order and safety, when a circulation is not well designed the
the relationship between men would be a chaos. Within what is circulation we can mention two
types: Vertical and Horizontal Circulation.
VERTICAL CIRCULATION

It is the one that will allow people to have communication between different surfaces or
levels for this we can mention: Ramps, Stairs, etc.

These can be identified as fixed circulations, although there are also circulations.
mobiles including: Elevators and others.

For there to be a good relationship between internal and external spaces, it is necessary
plan a good design of the circulations to avoid interference between them.

HORIZONTAL CIRCULATION

This circulation is different from the vertical one as it only allows circulation to a
same level among which we can mention: The classrooms, bathrooms or corridors on the second
or third level. To avoid obstacles within this circulation, it is necessary that we
designed in such a way that there are no doors, divisions, furniture, etc. It is necessary to calculate and

organize said circulation in which a good use of the spaces must be made taking into account
account for its dimensions.

LIGHTING.

The lighting should be both natural and artificial. It is characterized by making a good
use of natural light, as well as providing artificial light to a particular space
Necessary, for a space to make good use of natural light, it is necessary to make openings.
that they connect the outer space with the inside like: windows because in this way
sunlight enters the interior, in addition to sunlight it is necessary to have ventilation, which has
that go hand in hand. Artificial lighting must be designed with adequate precision
desired.

VENTILATION.

A design will be created to make the most of natural ventilation, orienting the
windows facing North and South.
FORMAL CRITERIA

PROPORTION.

Generate an efficient zoning to make the most of the land area. It will be studied.
the possibility of designing a closed structure for the building given that the use will be for
a large number of students, teachers, and administrative staff, thus allowing the
satisfactory protection against any weather conditions.

STRUCTURAL.

Mass construction allows important elements such as: Beams or Columns to remain in place.
Places that do not hinder access to hallways or classrooms.

If some structural elements remain visible, the materials must be in accordance with
those used in urban environment constructions and must be characteristic of the place and
integrate visually with the overall look of what will be contained within the space.

TECHNICAL CRITERIA.

MATERIALS.

Durable and low-maintenance materials will be used to ensure high quality.

expected useful life of the building. The roof will be made of a material that ensures comfort.
both thermal and acoustic inside each space.

The windows must be made of a material that best prevents direct solar radiation.
possible, as well as providing privacy. The frames will be made of metal structure.
under the respective regulations.
INSTALLATIONS.

Regarding hydraulic installations related to drinking water, the branches must be distributed
in outdoor areas where inspection and maintenance are facilitated, and do not obstruct normal
operation of the work or visit area in case repairs need to be made
using the required diameters and durable materials.
