VALENTIN TURCAN, Moldova
Valentin Turcan as an artist works with the technique of photograms and takes photos with the camera obscura,
also making films 16mm which where shown om international festivals.
Valentin (Valter) Turcan was born in 1976 in the far east of Russia in the village of Ust-Omchug, Tenkinsky district
in Kolyma, in a family of geologists. He grew up in Moldova, in the town of Cricova, famous for its long and deep
cellars, where old, most exquisite wines are stored. In these basements, mines and cellars one could observe
the effect of a camera obscura, and from the depths of the earth one could see what was happening outside.
Later this prompted him to make his own cave in miniature - camera obscura.
Youthful passion for vagrancy and adventure led him in 1993 to St. Petersburg. In St. Petersburg, at the photo
faculty of the University of Culture and Arts, having gained superficial knowledge, began to apply it in practice.
Citizen of Moldova.
