Translation - O Allah! Behold I ask You the good through Your Knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your favour) out of Your infinite Bounty. For surely You have
Power; I have none. You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things. O Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter
* Then the matter should be mentioned by name *
be good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your
Knowledge, this matter be bad for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away therefrom, and ordain
for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to please with it
Hadith/Benefit - The Messenger of Allaah (S.A.W) used to teach his companions to make istikhaarah in all things, just as he used to teach them soorahs from the Qur’aan. He said:
‘If any one of you is concerned about a decision he has to make, then let him pray two rak’ahs of non-obligatory prayer, then say the above.
(Al-Bukhaari, 6841; similar reports are also recorded by al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i, Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah and Ahmad)

When to pray:
‘Let him pray two rak’ahs of non-obligatory prayer.’ This is mentioned to make it clear that it does not mean fajr prayer, for example. Al-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar: He can pray
istikaarah after two rak’ahs of regular sunnah prayer done at zuhr for example, or after two rak’ahs of any naafil prayers whether they are regularly performed or not.

Wisdom:
The wisdom behind putting the salaat before the du’aa’ is that istikhaarah is intended to combine the goodness of this world with the goodness of the next. A person needs to
knock at the door of the King (Allaah), and there is nothing more effective for this than prayer, because it contains glorification and praise of Allaah, and expresses one's need for
Him at all times.
Answers:
The secret is that one’s heart should not be attached to the matter in question, because that will result in a person becoming restless. Being pleased with something means that
one’s heart is content with the decree of Allah.
Entering and Exiting Masjid:
Dua before entering the mosque is:
‫الّلُهـَّم اْفَتـْح لي َأْبواَب َر ْح َمتِـك‬
Transliteration – “Allaahum-maf-Tahlee Abwaaba Rahmatika”.
Translation – “O Allaah, open the doors of Your Mercy for me.” [Sahi’h Muslim]

After prayer when a person exits Masjid, the following Dua should be recited:
‫الّلُهـَّم ِإّنـي َأْس َأُلَك ِمـْن َفْضـِلك‬
Transliteration – “Allaahum-ma In-nee As`aluka Min Fadhlika”.
Translation – “O Allaah, I seek of You Your Grace.” [Sahi’h Muslim]
When Sneezing:
‫اْلَح ْمُد ِلَّلِه‬
Transliteration – “Alhamdulillah”!
Translation – “Thanks and all praise be to Allah”

The person who listens to the sneeze and witnesses the other person reciting the Dua after sneezing, should say:
‫َيْر َح ُم َك الَّلُه‬
Transliteration – “Yar Hamoo kall Lah”.
Translation – “May Allah have mercy on you.” [Bukhari ,Mishkaat Shareef Pg.405]

When entering home, a Muslim must recite the following Dua:

‫ َوَعلـى َر ِّبنـا َتَوّكْلـنا‬،‫ َوِبْس ـِم اللِه َخـَر ْج نـا‬،‫ِبْس ـِم اللِه َوَلْج نـا‬
Transliteration – “Bismillaahi walajnaa, wa bismillaahi kharajnaa, wa ‘alaaRabblnaa tawakkalnaa”
Translation – “In the Name of Allah we enter, in the Name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we depend [then say As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum to those
present].” [Abu Dau’d]
Remember the power of dua
It was narrated that the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
“There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed person; Allah raises it up
above the clouds and opens the gates of heaven to it. And the Lord says: ‘By My might, I shall surely aid you, even if it should be after a while.’” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi]

Etiquette of making dua

If we want to maximize the impact and sincerity of our dua, here are a few simple guidelines we can follow:
Have faith that Allah ‫ سبحانه و تعالى‬will respond
Start your dua by praising Allah ‫ سبحانه و تعالى‬and calling upon Him with His Most Beautiful Names
Follow this by sending blessings upon the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
End your dua with salawat on the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
Do not raise your voice too high
Face the qiblah whenever possible

Easy dhikr and dua while commuting

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬is reported to have said:
“Let not your tongue cease to be moist with the remembrance of Allah.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi].
Whilst on your commute or school run, you can easily make attentive dhikr and short dua. Your commute will add up to a significant amount of hours over the month, so be sure to make this
time worthwhile.
Praise Allah ‫سبحانه و تعالى‬
‘Subhannallahi wa bihamdihi.’
‘Glory is to Allah and praise is to him’ – recite 100 times in the morning and evening. [Jami` at-Tirmidhi]

Ask Allah ‫ سبحانه و تعالى‬for a home in jannah

‘Rab-bibni Li Indaka Baytan Fil Jannah.’
“My Lord! Build for me a home near you in Paradise.” [Qur’an: Chapter 66, Verse 11]

Blessing of dua after wudu

It was narrated that ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab said: “The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: ‘Whoever performs Wudu’ and does it well, then says:

“Ashhadu an la ilaha ill-Allah was ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh

(I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger),” eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him,
and he may enter through whichever one he wishes.’” [Sunan an-Nasa’i]

Easy dhikr while at work/school/doing chores

These are the activities that will take up most of our day. We often resent actions that seem to have nothing to do with our ibadah in Ramadan. Make use of this time by remembering Allah. In
your breaks, be sure to bring out your dua list again. Also, this is a great time to make dua for your school, work and family goals as you are already engrossed in those activities.
Praise Allah ‫سبحانه و تعالى‬
‘La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.’
‘There is no power and no strength except with Allah.’ [Sunan Ibn Majah]

Evening adkhar
‘Allaahumma bika ‘amsaynaa wa bika ‘asbahnaa, wa bika nahyaa, wa bika namootu wa ‘ilaykal maseer.’
(Oh Allah, you bring us the end of the day as you bring us the beginning. You bring us life and you bring us death and to you is our fate.) [Fortress of the Muslim]

Dua for parents

‘Rabbana ighfir lee waliwalidayya walilmumineena yawma yaqoomu alhisab.’
“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.” [Qur’an: Chapter 14, Verse 41]

Dua for your family

‘Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wathurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lilmuttaqeena imama.’
“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” [Qur’an: Chapter 25, Verse 74]
On the night of Laylatul Qadr
The blessed night of laylatul qadr could be truly transforming of one’s destiny throughout the year.
Aisha ‫ رضي الله عنه‬reported: “I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Laylat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He ‫ ﷺ‬replied, “You should supplicate:

Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni

(O Allah, you are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).” [At-Tirmidhi].
