When another old cave is discovered in the south of France, it is not usually news. Rather, it is an
ordinary event. Such discoveries are so frequent these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them.
However, when the Lascaux cave complex was discovered in 1940, the world was amazed.
Painted directly on its walls were hundreds of scenes showing how people lived thousands of years
ago. The scenes show people hunting animals, such as bison or wild cats. Other images depict birds
and, most noticeably, horses, which appear in more than 300 wall images, by far outnumbering all
other animals.
Early artists drawing these animals accomplished a monumental and difficult task. They did not
limit themselves to the easily accessible walls but earned their painting materials to spaces that
required climbing steep walls or crawling into narrow passages in the Lascaux complex.
Unfortunately, the paintings have been exposed to the destructive action of water and temperature
changes, which easily wear the images away. Because the Lascaux caves have many entrances, air
movement has also damaged the images inside. Although they are not out in the open air, where
natural light would have destroyed them long ago, many of the images have deteriorated and are
barely recognizable. To prevent further damage, the site was closed to tourists in 1963, 23 years after
it was discovered.

You know what they say; find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. So, if
you are thinking about what to do with your life, this may be something to consider. Choosing a career
can be difficult Especially' because there are so many jobs to choose from and many things to think
about, such as qualifications and financial rewards. So how do you pick a career? The only answer
seems to be “choose one that makes you feel that you are getting paid for doing something you truly
love".
Unless you have grown up with a talent or are keen on something that you can make a career out
of, you need to consider certain things about yourself. What suits your personality? We are all
different and just because your best friend wants to be a doctor, this does not mean that you should
follow. You need to make an informed decision. This means thinking carefully about the path you
need to follow to get that job. Are you willing to get the training or education needed? You must also
consider why you really want to do it. If it's just because it’s well paid, then sometime in the future
you are going to feel “empty”, even with a healthy bank account.
Nowadays. there are plenty of online career sites, but the main part has to come from you. You
need to be honest and measure your skills and talents realistically. Also, you may need to talk to your
parents who have their own ideas, based on their own experiences, about what you should do. They
have your best interests at heart. They don’t want to see you having financial problems or being
unemployed. But at the end of the day, it is your life. There is no point in being miserable for the next
forty years just to please someone else.

A good deal of fascinating research has been done about the reading patterns of young people,
and it is surprising to discover at what an early age children start expressing preferences for particular
kinds of books. A recent report, which examined in detail the reading habits of primary-school
children, showed that even seven-year-old boys and girls have clear views about what they want to
read. Girls, in general, read more, and far more girls than boys preferred reading stories. Boys were
showing a taste for the more instant appeal of picture stories, or else books about their hobbies.
These tastes continue unchanged until the children are teenagers. Apparently girls read more in
general, but more fiction in particular. You could say that there are more opportunities for girls to read

One of the greatest security threats in the online world is computer hacking. Hackers are people
who illegally enter systems. They may alter or delete information, steal private information, or spread
viruses that can damage or destroy files. But how exactly can a hacker get into a system to do these
things?
Most hackers use information called protocols that are built into computer software. These
protocols allow computers to interact with one another. Protocols are sort of like computer police
officers. When a computer connects to another system, the protocols check to see if the access is valid.
The protocols can also determine how much information can be shared between the two systems.
Hackers can manipulate the protocols to get unlimited access to a computer system.
In fact, just the act of entering a computer network is commonly considered passive hacking.
Passive hackers get a rush from just being able to access a challenging system like a bank or military
network. Another kind of hacker tries to do damage to a system. After hacking into systems, these
hackers release viruses or alter, delete, or take information. Known as active hackers, they are the
more dangerous of the two.
The easiest way to protect a system is with a good password. Long and unusual passwords are
harder for hackers to guess. For even greater security, some online services now use “password-plus”
systems. In this case, users first put in a password and then put in a second code that changes after the
user accesses the site. Users either have special cards or devices that show them new code to use the
next time. Even if a hacker steals the password, they won’t have the code. Or if the hacker somehow
gets the code, they still don’t know the password.

We celebrated Earth Day in my city last week. The idea of this special day began in the 1960s
when life was very different. Few people talked or even thought about the environment. Most people
had no idea how dirty our air and water were. This attitude bothered Gaylord Nelson, who was a
senator in the US government, and he had an idea. If people around the world knew that the planet was
in danger, they might work harder to save it, so he just needed to get their attention. The first Earth
Day was just in the United States but it led to events every year all around the world on April 22 or the
nearest weekend, depending on where you are.
In my town, last Saturday afternoon lots of people rode their bikes from the park, around the town
together and back to the park, taking as much time as they possibly could, so that the cars had to wait.
Then we talked to all the drivers in cars which just had one person in them, to explain how wasteful
that is and how much pollution it causes. The idea was to make people think about how much they use
their cars. In other places, people collected plastic bags for a week and then made a pile of them in the
town square. You can do anything as long as it makes people of all ages come together for a few hours
and talk about the environment. Last year we had a big music event for young people. Some people
said it was a waste of time, but there was information for people to read and announcements between
