SUB: COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

INTRODUCTION OF M.S.WORD
M.S. Word
▪ M.S. Word is a word processor software developed by Microsoft in 1983.
It is the software used to create professional quality documents, letters, reports, resumes, etc., and allows to edit or modify
new or existing documents.
• The files saved in MS Word have .docx format.

❑ To Open MS Word:
➢ Type MS Word in the Search Bar.
➢ Select MS Word option/application.
➢ Select blank document then word document will open where you can write your content.

Title Bar:
➢ The topmost bar of the MS Word, which displays the name of the currently open document or application.
Quick Access Toolbar:
➢ It is a customizable toolbar which has a set of independent commonly used commands such as Save, Undo, Redo, Print,
Print Preview, etc.
Ribbon: It is located below the Quick Access Toolbar & Title Bar . It has Tabs like Home, Insert, References, Mailing,
Review , View ,Draw etc.
1. File Tab: – Located in upper left corner. It has a variety of commands like ‘Open’, ‘Save’, ‘Save as’, ‘Export’, ‘Print’ etc.
2. Home Tab – It has five groups of related commands i.e. Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Style, Editing.

3. Insert Tab: :-It is useful to add some extra features i.e. table, pictures, shapes, page number, header, footer, etc.
It has groups of related commands :- Pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header and footer, Text, Symbols.

4. Draw Tab : It is turned on automatically in some devices &


For other devices: File-> options -> Customize ribbon -> Draw tab will open

5. Design Tab: It has groups like Document formatting, page background etc. which has commands like Themes, Page color,
page borders, watermark, paragraph spacing etc.

6. Page Layout Tab:- It is used to change page size, page margin, etc.It has groups of related command as follows:Page Setup,
Paragraph and Arrange.

7. References Tab: It is useful to enter document sources.


It has groups of related commands:-Table of content Footnotes, Citation and Bibliography, Captions, Index, Table of Authorities.

8. Mailing lab:-It has groups of commands as follows-Create, Start Mail Merge, Write and Insert fields, Preview Results, finish.

9. Review Tab:-It is useful for checking spelling and grammar, counting of words etc.
It has groups of commands : proofing, speech Accessibility, language, comments, Tracking, Changes, Compare, Protect, etc.

10. View Tab: -It has groups of commands : View, Immersive Page movement , Zoom, Window, Show etc. & last tab is Help.
❑ Status Bar- It shows page number on which work is going on, number of words, zoom of page, focus mode of
page, web layout, print lay out, read mode.

• Minimize ,Maximize, Close Buttons(Located on right topmost corner):


➢ Minimize:- Reduces the window to an icon or the taskbar, removing it from the screen; to restore the window,
click on the word icon on the task bar.
➢ Maximize:- Fills the screen with Word Window, when we clicked again, it turns into restore down button.
➢ Close: - Closes the active document. If changes in saving of document is required then a dialogue box is
open to save it .
