This booklet is an attempt to provide the necessary and complete


information for the students who want to take admission for the new academic year
2023-24. D. B. J. College Chiplun is one of the renowned colleges in this region.
College has consistently performed well in the field of education. Many meritorious
students of the college have brought fame and reputation to the college. Along with
the academics, many of our students are doing a remarkable work in the field of
sports and cultural activities. Students and parents always insist to get admission
in such a college.
According to the new education policy, many changes are being introduced
in the field of education. The education department and the university are working
rigorously to implement these changes. Navkonkan Education Society and DBJ

Dr. Datar Science, Dr. Behere Arts and Shri. Pilukaka Joshi Commerce
College (D.B.J. College) was established in the year 1965 by Navkonkan
Education Society with the intention of imparting higher education of the best
quality to the rural community of Konkan region.
Vision :
“Converting Knowledge into Wisdom.”
Mission :
'To provide study facilities to acquire knowledge of high quality; and raise
self-confidence and courage to face challenges in life.'
Objectives :
l To provide learner-centred educational facilities to the under-developed
masses of Konkan region.
l To provide a local source of higher education with widespread disciplines
and technology-oriented courses to the students in the nearby rural area.
l To facilitate the existing infrastructure and educational facilities to empower
the girl students and minority students culturally, socially, financially and
politically.
l To extend the available sources and facilities to the society.
l To initiate, to sustain and to augment quality education, with a view to
establish the largest learner centred educational facility in the Konkan
region.

The Beginning
Initially, Dr. G. N. Datar, an eminent medical practitioner from Karad, was
kind enough to donate Rs. 1,00,000/- for this pious activity. Hence, the college
was named as Dr. Datar College. Further, with the generous donations from
families of Dr. S. R. Behere and Shri. Pilukaka Joshi, the college was renamed as
"Dr. Datar Science, Dr. Behere Arts and Shri. Pilukaka Joshi Commerce College,
Chiplun, popularly known as " D. B. J. College, Chiplun".
During this period of last fifty eight years, D. B. J. College, Chiplun has
become one of the well-known educational centers in the entire konkan region.
The college has acquired 'A' grade in cycle IV Accreditation from NAAC,
Bangalore with CGPA of 3.14 and was chosen as "The Best College" of the
University of Mumbai for the year 2008-2009. The college has also been
certified by ISO 9001:2015.

2 Distinctive features of the college
1. Infrastructural Facilities :-
The college premises spreads across 12699.30 sq. mt. built-up area
housing 47 Classrooms, with LCD projectors in 28 class rooms, academic
departments , administrative departments , office and laboratories.
2. Seminar Hall :-
A fully Air-conditioned and well-equipped seminar hall with a seating
capacity for 200, 2 LCD projectors and good sound system.
3. Laboratories :-
Physics - Total area of the laboratory is 385 sq. m. Separate arrangement for
under-graduate and Junior college students, special arrangement for the final
year students with all the necessary modern equipments, departmental library,
computer facility with epson printer, astronomical telescope, workshop for small
repairs and maintenance.
Chemistry - Separate laboratories for under-graduate and post-graduate
courses. Total area of 350 sq. m. with the post-graduate laboratory of 220 sq. m.
Both the laboratories are equipped with modern instruments, departmental
Library, computers, Internet access, separate gas storage shed for safety
purpose. Post-graduate laboratory having a unit for post-graduate course by
research.
Physics, Chemistry & Biology Laboratory - Separate two storeyed building
with 1715.30 sqm area, specially built for laboratories is well equipped with
modern equipments and amenities. All the laboratories have separate section for
PG and UG courses with Computer and Internet facilities.
Zoology - Total area of laboratory 235 sq. m. with necessary modern equipments
for Zoology, museum with collection of stuffed animals from Konkan region,
departmental library, OHP, Slide Projector, Computer facility.
Biotechnology - Total area of the biotechnology lab. is 65 sq.m. equipped with all
the necessary and modern equipments. Vertical Autoclave, Digital Colony
Counter, Advanced Binocular Research Microscope. B.O.D. incubator, Digital

one-pan balance, Visible Spectrophotometer. Electrophoresis apparatus,
Medical microscope etc.
Computer Science - Fully air-Conditioned Lab. with an area of 68 Sq. m., Thirty
Seven Pentium-III & IV systems with Local Area Networking and Compaq Server,
4 inkjet printers, departmental library containing 300 reference books and 600 text
books.
Information Technology - Total area 67 sq. m. Twenty Nine Pentium III and IV
systems with Local Area networking and Compaq Server necessary Software, 2
Inkjet printers, 2 dot matrix printers, One Laser Jet Printer and ISO-9001 certified
5 and 3 KV on-line UPS, Departmental library with the latest books, Internet
facility.
4. University's Recognized Research Center for Ph.D. -
University of Mumbai recognized research center for enrolling students for
the degree of Ph.D. in the subject of Zoology. The research center can enroll 10
students as per University norms. Presently three students are doing Ph.D. under
the guidance of Dr. G. B. Raje. Research laboratory is well equipped with atomic
absorption spectro photometer, Micro photography unit of olympus, inverted
trinocular microscope, Nitrogen analyser, UV spectrophotometer etc.
5. Common Research Facility Center -
The College has a certified Soil and Water testing lab since 2016. Well-
equipped spacious Research Lab for P.G. and PH.D Students. This is a common
Research facility center for Research students and Teachers. It has a Separate
section of soil and water testing lab with a capacity of analysis of 10,000 samples
per year. Samples supplied by District Agriculture Superintendent, Ratnagiri and
from farmers are analyzed and reports with special advice are given to them.
6. Language Laboratory - A separate Laboratory for language students. This
enables the students to learn and improve their language performance to make
their communication effective. A precious & seperate language laboratory is run
under the department of English. It is equipped with 10 computers in Lan,
headphones, projector & a sound system.

instruments, (Fortin's Barometer etc.) Tracing table topo-maps.Thematic maps
and OHP, departmental library and computer facility.
8. Department of Rain-fed Agriculture - The college has a separate department
with four beds vermicomposting facility, rain water harvesting facility, 150
medicinal plants, nursery with 2500 plants and propagation area, organic
vegetable production, hi-tech classroom, departmental agriculture museum and
well-equipped water and soil testing laboratory.
9. Butterfly Garden - There is a Butterfly garden in college premises which is
developed and maintained by department of Zoology.
10. College Office - Office has a total area of 150 sq.m. completely digital system
with 13 computers in LAN, 1 Laptop and 8 printers (7 Dot Matrix and 1 Inkjet) and 5
KVA on-line UPS. All necessary information, scholarships, free ships and
necessary guidance is provided by office staff to the students and parents. Digital
Copy Writer worth Rs. 3.7 Lacks has been purchased for Printing. Cannon Digital
Copier with printer board worth Rs. 1.12 Lacks. Intercom facility to connect all the
departments is available. Separate enquiry counter provides the following

11. N.C.C. -
1. 19 Maharashtra Battalion (Girls and Boys) - A seperate office with store is
available in the students' support building. A company of Army Wing Infantry
(Senior Division) is working under 19 Maharashtra Battalion N.C.C., Karad,
Maximum strength is 53. Hard paver block fitted 40 ft. x 18 ft. parade ground is
available opposite flag base.
2. 6 Maharashtra Girls Battalion - A separate office with store is available in the
students' support building. A company of Army (Senior Wings) is working under 6
Maharashtra Girls Battalion N.C.C., Kolhapur. The maximum strength is 50.
12. N.S.S. - National Service Scheme Department has enrolled 300 students and

undertakes many activities for social and personal development of students.
13. Gymkhana - Separate gymkhana building, Gymnasium with twelve work-
stations, equipped with all facilities for indoor and outdoor games & play ground.
14. Sports Activity - Students have ample opportunities to participate in
intercollegiate, zonal, inter-zonal and Inter-University sports competitions
inKabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Football, Table-Tennis, Badminton, Cricket,
Chess, Carrom, Yoga, Judo, Mallakhamb, Trekking, Hiking, Weight Lifting,
Gymnasium etc. We have spacious play ground for practice along with two-
storied Gymkhana Building with total built up area of 1200 sqm., badminton court
of cement floor and a 12 stations Gymnasium.
15. Cultural Hall - Students have various opportunities to participate in inter-
collegiate cultural activities. For the events selected at college level, professional
training by experts in the fields such as singing, dancing, debating etc. is provided
by the college. The cultural department has 1000 sq. feet hall for the practice
sessions with Lights System for Theater , Music operating system and different
musical instruments.
16. Kaushaly Sindhu - A multi faceted professional training center Kaushaly
Sindhu dedicated to Vinayak Damodar Sawarkar offers various professional
course such as training for CA, CPT, MPSC, UPSC, AC and refrigerator & Micro-
wave repairing course by Godrej, English and German Language courses under
Language Studies Center.
17. Hostel Facilities - Separate Boys & Ladies Hostels with various amenities.
Students can contact N. E. Society's office for hostel admission.

18. Ladies' Room - The collage has 60% girls students. Therefore, the collage
has built spacious ladies room with built-up area of 241.86 sq. mt. of space and a
24 washrooms & 8 Toilets with necessary infrastructure. It also has 6 changing
rooms adjoining the ladies room.

19. Students' Grievance Redressal Committee - Students' Grivances
Committee has been formed as per the rule of the University of Mumbai students'
redressal committee. The student can send his/her complaints/ grivances to the
University through the principal of the college in the prescribed form (Form 'A' of
the rule)
20. Women Development Cell - This cell attempts to develop overall personality
of women students & staff & solves their problems.
21. Insurance - Every student is insured for the sum of Rs. 5,00,000/- by paying
annual instalment of Rs. 125/- only. This facility is beneficial for students to meet
the expenditure in unfortunate cases of accident.
In addition to this N. E. Society annually pays 1,00,000/- Rs. installments
for student's insurance. In case of emergency student can receive the amount of
Rs. 2,00,000/-.
22. Medical Facility Center - Services of a qualified physician are made
available in the health-care center for students and staff.
23. Earn to Learn scheme - Needy students can apply for financial assistance to
meet their primary needs. The students are helped to get in-house part time jobs.
24. Consumer Store - College has consumer store on no loss - no profit basis .
Students are expected to purchase their journals, tutorials books, project files and
other stationary from this store.
25. Library : College has a fully digitized library with more than 50,000 textbooks
and reference books and more than 1,60,000 e-books and 6,000 e-Journals of N-
LIST consortia.
26. Swayamsiddha : A seperate committee is established to conduct various
activites for women empowerment, employability and skill development.
27. Carrier Katta : College runs the Career Katta activity effectively to provide
value added skills to the students. It is a joint initiative of the Maharashtra
Information Technology Support Centre (MITSC) and Maharashtra State Higher
and Technical Department.
NEP 2020 and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)

The national Education policy 2020 will be implemented in higher

education from the academic year 2023-24. The college will adopt and implement
the changes as per the directives of NEP, UGC and University of Mumbai and will
be bound to adhere to it. The same will be communicated to the parents and
students through proper channels as and when required.
As per NEP 2020 it is compulsory for all students to create their ABC ID.
Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a virtual/digital storehouse that contains the
information of the credits earned by individual students throughout their learning
journey.
Students should follow following steps to create their ABC ID :
Please note, students must have an Adhar linked mobile number to
generate their ABC. ID.

1. Go to www.abc.gov.in
2. Click on my account and select student
3. Click on sign up for meri pehechan
4. Enter adhar linked Mobile no.
5. Click on generate OTP
6. Enter OTP and verify
7. Enter your full name, date of birth, select gender(as per Adhar Card).
8. Enter username and pin as you want(take screen shot)
9. Reconfirm pin, check term and conditions and Click on verify button
10. Enter adhar card no and generate OTP
11. Enter OTP
12. Select UNIVERSITY and name of university- University of Mumbai
13. Press submit
14. Take the screen shot of ABC ID (a twelve digit number)
NOTE - If students already have Digilocker account, they can login to digilocker
app ad generate their ABC ID. To generate ABC ID through Digilocker use
following steps -
1. Login to DigiLocker account through mobile app.
2. Search for Education.
3. Education category shows Academic Bank of Credits service.
4. Create ABC ID. Select your University and click on Generate ABC ID.

13 Refund of fees

The candidates who have taken admission in undergraduate courses in


Government colleges, in Govt. aided and unaided courses conducted by affiliated
colleges and recognized institutions may request for refund of fees after applying
in writing for cancellation of their admission to the course. The refund of fees as
applicable shall be made on the 30th day after the date of cancellation. The
percentage of fee for the course which shall be refunded to the candidate after
deducing charges as follows :

20 Information of Add-on Courses
(A) RAIN-FED AGRICULTURE
(Revised Course of Dryland Agriculture)
About the Course :
The UGC has introduced many vocational courses for Arts and Commerce
students. These courses are completed by the students while pursuing their
regular B.A. and B.Com degree courses. D.B.J. College had introduced one such
course for the students of Arts and Commerce faculty. Viz Rain-fed agriculture.
Nature of the Course :
This course can be completed by the students at the following levels :
• Certificate course in Rain-fed Agriculture (One Year Duration)
• Diploma course in Rain-fed Agriculture (Two Years Duration)
• Advanced Diploma Course in Rain-fed Agriculture (Three years Duration)
After completion of third year of this course, students are awarded with a
Certificate of Advanced Diploma Course.
Eligibility :
A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Rain-fed Agriculture course
shall have passed XII std examination of Maharashtra Board of Higher Secondary
Education or its equivalent.
Intake Capacity :
40 students may be admitted for this course. Admissions will be strictly on
merit basis.
Fee Structure :
From this year onwards, first year students have to pay Rs. 1000/- for
Certificate Course, Rs. 1500/- for Diploma Course and Rs. 2000/- for Advanced
Diploma Course in subsequent years.

(B) TRAVEL & TOURISM MANAGEMENT
(Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma)
A career oriented Add on Course for the Undergraduate students along with
their conventional degree programme has been introduced by the University of
Mumbai under the U.G.C. Scheme of vocationalisation.

Eligibility for admission :


A candidate for being eligible for admission to the certificate course of Travel
and Tourism must have passed H.S.C. (Arts/Commerce) and enrolled in F.Y.B.A. /
B.Com in University of Mumbai. The maximum intake capacity for this course is of
forty students.

Third Year Advanced Diploma Course One Year

C) Diploma Course in Geographical Information System (GIS)


Looking at the potential of new emerging technology in GIS field of
Geography. Department of Geography has started Diploma course in GIS form
the Year 2017-18. There is wide scope for opportunities in multinational
Companies through GIS. Through GIS Diploma course, many students of
T.Y.B.A. Geography have been selected by multinational GIS companies. These
students have got jobs immediately after the sem. - VI. Prescribed fee for the
course is Rs. 12000/- and the Duration of the course is 1 year.
