Lesson Plan: Travel & Accommodation Vocabulary (A2 level)
Topic: Travel and Accommodation
Level: A2 (Pre-Intermediate)
Time: 45–60 minutes
Focus: Vocabulary (travel & accommodation) + speaking practice
1. Warm-up (5–7 min)
Activity: Show students some travel-related pictures (airport, hotel, train, luggage, reception).
Prompt: Ask questions:
Where do you usually stay when you travel?
Do you prefer hotels or hostels?
What transport do you usually use when you travel?
2. Presentation of Vocabulary (10–12 min)
Introduce new words in two groups:
Travel: airport, flight, ticket, luggage, suitcase, passport, boarding pass, train, bus, taxi, sightseeing, travel agent.
Accommodation: hotel, hostel, guesthouse, campsite, reception, single room, double room, book/reserve, check-in, c
Use pictures/flashcards/slides to present meanings.
Drill pronunciation.
Check understanding with simple CCQs (concept checking questions):
Do you need a passport when you fly? (Yes)
Is a hostel usually more expensive than a hotel? (No)
3. Controlled Practice (10–12 min)
Matching exercise: Match words with definitions or pictures.
Gap-fill exercise: “When you arrive at the hotel, you go to the ___.”
True/False statements: You need a boarding pass to get on a train. (False)
4. Semi-Controlled Practice (10 min)
Role-play: Students work in pairs. One is a hotel receptionist, the other is a guest.
Example:
Good afternoon. I’d like to book a single room for two nights.
Certainly. Can I have your passport, please?
Swap roles so each student practices both.
5. Freer Practice / Speaking (8–10 min)
Activity: “Plan a Trip” – In pairs, students plan a short holiday using the vocabulary.
Where will they go?
How will they travel?
Where will they stay?
What will they do there?
Each pair presents their plan briefly to the class.
6. Wrap-up & Homework (5 min)
Quick quiz: Teacher says a definition, students shout the word.
Homework: Write a short paragraph about “My last trip” using at least 8 new words.
