1. GENERAL
A. Application Scope

The specification provides information on SMC water tank as follows. GRP (Glass-fiber
Reinforced Polyester) material is developed by incorporating and reinforcing glass fibers into the
complex of unsaturated polyester resin, filler, catalyst, parting agent, etc. The main body of the
tank consists of the panel (ceiling, side, bottom, drain) developed by molding the SMC using the
oil hydraulic press.

B. Product Requirement
This SMC water tank has the function of storing drinking water, and must be developed by a
company of which the quality is managed by ISO certified company.

C. Product Categorization

GRP water tank main body (SMC panel), base frame, stiffener, internal/external ladder
assembly, and pipe fitting assembly shall be performed in this construction.

E. Structure
1) Formation: Square panel assembly with application of internal reinforcement (tie-rod assembly)
method.
2) Panel and reinforcement must be strong enough to endure the expected weight such as water
pressure, etc.
3) This product, as a container of drinking water, must not be exposed to the inflow or
occurrence of pollutants, and must comply to the regulations on the cleaning and sanitary
management of water supply plants and water tank installation standards established by the
Ministry of Environment.

F. Installation Regulations and Compliance


1) This product, as a container of drinking water, must not be exposed to the inflow or
occurrence of pollutants, and must comply to the regulations on the cleaning and sanitary
management of water supply plants and water tank installation standards established by the
Ministry of Environment.
2) This product must be equipped with a lower panel which will prevent stagnation of precipitate
on the bottom of the tank and a drain panel for easy drainage after cleaning the interior.

3) When dividing the tank into 2 or more, panels with partition function, so disinfectant or
pollutants do not flow into the neighboring tank.

4) This product can be devised to no rainwater flows into the tank, and must be equipped with at
least one manhole for the cleaner or equipment can easily enter the tank, developed by the

2. Construction and Field Management

A. Panel ((GRP Panel))


1) GRP (Glass-fiber Reinforced Polyester) material is developed by incorporating and
reinforcing glass fibers into the complex of unsaturated polyester resin, filler, catalyst, parting
agent, etc., developed by molding the SMC using the oil hydraulic press. It must not be
harmful for storage of drinking water.

The panels of GRP water tank consists of top

4) Panel Thickness
Because the weight is different depending on height and applied section, the grades of panel
thickness according to location must be in different grades. (Panel thickness standards: See
Appendix #2)

2) Format
a. Bolt assembly structure
(Field welding cannot be applied due to potential danger of defect and reduction of durability
due to rusting of the cutting plane and the connecting sections.)
b. In order to prevent position breakaway or vibration of tank caused by earthquake or wind
pressure, the base frame and the tank must be fixed to the base concrete using bolts.

D. Internal reinforcing parts
1) Materials
Inside stay of SUS 304 or SUS 316 tie-rod shall be applied in order to secure minimum
deformation of side wall panel, safety and long lifetime of the tank.

F. Sealant
1) PVC type material with excellent durability and restitution, hygienic and nontoxic properties,
unaffected by temperature change and with identical life span of panel
panel, with easy to handle
tape form. (Nontoxic material not affected by mold or moss)
2) Rubber packing used as sealant of bolt and inner stay assembly section, must satisfy the
regulations for waterworks (KSM 6613 type 1 no.1).
3) Long term watertightness cannot be guaranteed by the sealing method of silicone application
in the interior of the tank, and there are possibilities of mold, making it harmful to humans,
thus cannot be used.

G. Bolts and Nuts


The bolt must have the quality equal or greater than KS B 1002 regulation, and its use and
material shall be as follows.
1) For interior(water section): STS 304+Epoxy Coating
2) For exterior, substratum: M10 dacro dip + PVC bolt cap (anti-corrosion bolt cap)
3) Connection of exterior and interior: The head section of the dacro dip bolt consists of rubber
(identical to fitting assembly bolt) and rubber coated products to improve watertightness.

H. Ladder
The ladder should provided enough load resistance and solidity, and the internal ladder
should be in an assemblage structure without welding and not harmful in sanitation.
a. Internal use : GRP assemblage ladder or stainless steel 304 or higher grade.
b. External use : HDG steel or Stainless steel 304 or higher grade.

The air-vent should be in ABS or similar grade plastic material with PE mesh insect-guard.

K. Level indicator
The water level gauge must consist of transparent hose so the water level can be observed
from the exterior, and must be protected from shock with a case.

3. Construction and Field Management

A. Field inspection
p and Installation of Base Frame
1) The pad shall be developed by the demander, and the standard weight shall be at least
300mm in width and 600mm in height (including the basic frame), and the outer measurement
of the tank shall be W, L + 400mm. The leveling must be at most 1/500, with the upper surface
smooth, and the concrete strength must be at least 180kg/cm2, with finishing mortar thickness
being at most 20mm.
2) The worker must check for any problems of the pad installation,
installation and shall install hot dip
galvanized base frame.
3) After installing the base frame, check the leveling using the laser leveler, and the space
between the pad and the base frame must be supported using flat bars.

B. Panel Assembly
1) The panel can be assembled in the following order: bottom panel, side panel, and top panel.
In order to prevent water leakage, use innocuous sealing tape between the space between the
panels.
2) For regular health inspection, repair, and maintenance of the water tank, use partition panels
to divide the interior of the water tank, and it must be sealed completely in order to prevent
contamination.
3) The bottom panel of the water tank must be structured to allow complete drainage.
4) When the assembly of the water tank is complete, various types of fittings must be installed
in the set location in the blueprint.

C. Safety Management

site as a rule and train and give orders for the safety of the workers.
