‫سورة الذاريات‬

Judgment, warning, signs, reward, truth.

Makkah
The sun had long dipped behind the stony ridges of Makkah, but its heat still clung to
the ground like the cruelty that hung in the air. I sat quietly behind a narrow wall in
the outskirts of the market, my back pressed against the cool stone, my body sore from
the blows I’d taken earlier. Today, they mocked Bilal again. They tied a boulder to his
chest and left him beneath the sun, demanding he abandon the name of Allah. But from
his cracked lips came only: “Ahad, Ahad.” My own lips had quivered. I hadn’t the
strength to stop them, I barely had the strength to meet my own master’s gaze without
lowering mine. I hated this weakness in me. The fire of truth burned in my heart, but
my body betrayed it. I could not sleep. Not with the sounds of laughter still echoing
from Quraysh’s homes. Not after the shame I felt for hiding when others stood firm. I lit
a small lamp in the quiet corner of my room, careful not to let its light spill too far. I
unwrapped the small parchment passed secretly to me after Maghrib. It was written in
haste, smuggled from the House of Al-Arqam, with the newly revealed verses.

Abdullah b. Amr b. al-'As reported that he heard Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬as
saying:
Verily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the
fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He
likes. Then Allahs Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said: 0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our
hearts to Thine obedience.
The Aqidah (creed) of believers is a Aqidah of Action. Action and Belief cannot
be seperated. Imam Shafiee states: The scholars have agreed that Iman is Speech

How do the stories of the
predecessors help the believers
in Makkah?
Notes
Some people are blinded from the signs of Allah. We should strive to gain
complete faith and belief so we have the privilege to live these signs.

The goal of the stories is to keep the believers firm and to remind them of the
promises of Allah. As Allah says: "So that by it We may strengthen your heart”
