Exploring the impact of implementing AI in road traffic systems in
Zimbabwe
Abstract:
The swift urbanisation that Zimbabwe is experiencing has increased demand for effective
public transport networks. The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility and
potential impact of implementing AI-based public transportation management systems in
Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, the growing population is outpacing the current infrastructure,
leading to inefficiencies and traffic jams. This study suggests utilising artificial intelligence
(AI) technology in public transport administration to improve efficiency and sustainability in
Zimbabwean public transport.AI algorithms have the ability to improve fleet management,
scheduling and route planning. Artificialintelligence (AI) systems are able to dynamically
modify routes and schedules in order to minimise waiting times and traffic congestion. AI-
powered predictive maintenance can assist in preventing malfunctions and delays,
guaranteeing more efficient operations and increase reliability of public transport systems.
Transportation authorities may use AI driven predictive analytics to forecast future demand
trends and modify their plans accordingly. Findings show that with this technologythrough
mobile apps, travellers can receive real time updates. This can help in improving traffic
congestion in the busy routes. The study contributes in designing resilient and sustainable
transport networks that satisfy changing urban population demandsby policymakers and
urban planners.
