DISASSEMBLY
1-. General
This page-block contains all the information necessary for disassembly of the
unit. Although a complete procedure is given, the level to which you must
disassemble the unit will depend on the nature of the fault.
2. Techniques and Precautions
Standard techniques for the disassembly of electrical units are applicable.
Before you disconnect electrical wiring, attach temporary identification tags
to make sure that you can correctly connect the wiring again. Before removal
of any wiring, write down the wire size, type, color, coding and correct
routing of the wires. Also write down the polarity of the diodes.
3. Special Tools, Fixtures, Equipment and Materials
Not applicable.
4. Disassembly Procedures
The item numbering used in the following procedures refers to the item numbers
in IPL figure 1.
A. Removal of Cover (10)
Remove the screws (20) and washers (30). Remove the cover.
B. Removal of Lighting Plate (50)
(1) Remove the switch knob (40) from the shaft of switch (110).
(2) Remove the screws (60). Remove the lighting plate.
C. Removal of Rear Plate (400)
NOTE; After the subsequent procedure, the rear plate is still connected to
the unit through the wire assembly.
(1) Remove the screws (410).
(2) Unsolder the wires from the stand offs (300, 300A).
D. Removal of Connector (160)
(1) Remove the wired contacts from the rear of the connector. For details
refer to page-block 601.
(2) Remove the screws (170), washers (180) and nuts (190). Remove the
connector.
E. Removal of Connector (200)
(1) Remove the wired contacts from the rear of the connector. For details
refer to page-block 601.
(2) Remove the screws (210), washers (220) and nuts (230). Remove the

CLEANING
1. General
This page-block gives general procedures for cleaning.
2. Cleaning Agents and Materials
The cleaning agents and materials are given in page-block 901.
3. Cleaning Procedures
WARNING: WEAR GOGGLES WHEN YOU USE AN AIR-JET. WARN OTHER PERSONS TO STAY
AWAY FROM THE AREA. THE AIR-JET PRESSURE MUST NOT BE GREATER THAN
193 kPa (28 PSI).
A. External Cleaning
Use a water dampened lint-free cloth (CML-Fk05-044) and a soft bristle brush
to clean all metal parts, the lighting plate and the legends of the lighted
push-button switches. Use an air-jet with an ionization nozzle to clean
places which are not accessible to a cloth or brush. Pay particular
attention to dirt which may be trapped between the contacts of the
connectors.
B. Internal Cleaning
(1) Remove the lighting plate and cover assembly. For details, refer to
page-block 301. Use a lint-free cloth (CML-Fk05-044) and a soft
bristle brush to clean all metal parts. Pay particular attention to
dirt which may be trapped inside the cover assembly and between the
terminals of the switches and the lighting plate connector.
(2) Use a lint free cloth (CML-Fk05-044) to clean away dust and dirt from
around the electrical parts. To clean areas which are not accessible,
use a soft bristle brush or an air-jet with an ionization nozzle.
C. Cleaning after Soldering / Unsoldering
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, BECAUSE IT IS POISONOUS
AND HIGHLY FLAMMABLE.
- WEAR GOGGLES AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
- DO NOT BREATHE THE VAPORS
- WORK IN AN AREA WHICH HAS A GOOD FLOW OF AIR.
IF YOU GET ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL IN YOUR EYES OR ON YOUR SKIN:
- FLUSH YOUR EYES OR SKIN WITH WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES
- GET MEDICAL HELP.
IF, BY ACCIDENT, YOU INGEST ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL:
- DO NOT VOMIT
- GET MEDICAL HELP.
CAUTION; REMOVE THE REMAINING FLUX IN LESS THAN 1 HOUR AFTER THE SOLDERING
OPERATION.
(1) Clean (un-)soldered connections with a bristle brush and isopropyl
alcohol (CML-Fkll-013) to remove the remaining flux.
(2) Use an air-jet with an ionization nozzle to dry the cleaned area.

parts of the unit.
3. Materials
The materials are given in page-block 901.
4. Repair Procedures
With the exception of the components given in the subsequent procedures, all
components are non-repairable. If any part of a component is damaged, the
component must be replaced.
The item numbering used in the procedures refers to the item numbers in I PL
Figure 1.
NOTE; If you replace a component, you must do the applicable test procedure.
(Refer to page-block 101.)
NOTE; Make sure that all components are correctly attached.

5. Storage
- A. Preservation
Before you pack the unit for storage, preserve the unit in accordance with
specification MIL-P-116.
B. Identification Labels
NOTE; If one of the identification labels is missing, or the details on it
are incomplete, the unit must not be approved for storage or
installation.
Prepare two identification labels which show the unit part number, serial
number and the date of the last overall test and receipt into storage.
C. Packing
(1) Attach one of the identification labels to the unit.
(2) Put the unit in a clean polythene bag, together with a quantity of
approved desiccant (CML-Fkl5-010). The desiccant must be contained
separately in a muslin or cotton bag.
(3) Push out as much air as possible from the polythene bag and heat-seal
the opening of the bag.
(4) Put the unit into its original packing or in a suitable container, in
accordance with ATA specification 300.
(5) Attach the remaining identification label to the outside of the
package in such a position that you can easily read it.
D. Storage
CAUTION; DO NOT KEEP NEAR CORROSIVE FLUIDS, ELECTROMAGNETIC, ELECTROSTATIC,
MAGNETIC OR RADIOACTIVE FIELDS, OR NEAR HEAT- OR OZONE-GENERATING
SOURCES.
(1) Keep the unit in a clean area which is open to the air. Make sure that
the temperature is not lower than -20 °C (-4 °F) or higher than +70 °C
(+158 °F) and that the relative humidity is not greater than 65%.
(2) Put the package in such a position that you can easily read the
identification label.
