Day 0 (Initial Day)

1-6-22

Observations

I decided that the plant that I am going to cultivate is Brassica rapa

subsp. Chinensis, also known in our locality as “Pichay” or in some cases
“Bok Choy”. The seeds of the plants are blue in color which is very

peculiar in nature as blue is one of the rarest color found in nature. I
collected the soil from the back lot in our house where the soil is fertile
because of the manures of livestock being raised around the area. The
seeds put atop the soil and not buried at all. Water is then applied to
moisten the area and to prepare the plant in its development.

Observations

I noticed that the bluish pigment of the Pichay seeds disappeared
and that they became dark brown. The first sprouts of the Pichay are
observed with a coil-like shape and a light green bulb in the highest point
is visible which contains the leaves of the baby Pichay plant. I continued
to moisten and dug up the land to soften it making the roots of the
saplings to easily pierce through the soil. _______________

Day 2 (Third Day)

3-6-22

Observations
PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero
The bulbs of the baby Pichay plants finally bloomed showing their
signature butterfly wings-like leaves. The saplings are still small and have
a measure that is compared to a matchstick. There still are subtle traces
of the decomposing cotyledon in the ground and I would expect it to fully
detach and decomposed tomorrow. I never imagined that the sapling
would quickly grow to something like this in just two days and that I think
this time in my first attempt that the plant would survive till it’s harvested.
I moistened and dug up the soil again to soften the plant even more and
now starting put fertilizer in it so that they could grow even faster.

Day 3 (Fourth Day)

4-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

The baby Pichay plants’ pairing leaves are now starting to split and
diverge from each other as the petioles, or the stalks that connect the
leaves to the stem, grows and elongates. Yet their butterfly-looking
appearance still retain and the color of their stems slowly turn green as
more cells are develop to fortify the stem and prevent it to break under
the weight of the leaves. The remains of the cotyledon and the husk fully
disappeared now because either they got used up and decomposed. I
didn’t dug up the soil and just watered it because I think the roots are
strong enough to pierce through the soil. _________________________________

Day 4 (Fifth Day)

12-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

The baby Pichay plants now look marvelous, healthy, and beautiful
as it continues to turn green. I can compare their height measurements as
big as my pinky finger. The petioles are now much longer and the leaves
are now larger. I noticed that some of the saplings have a bended shape
either because their stems aren’t fortified yet or they are finding a path to
direct position in which they can abundantly collect sunlight. Their V-like
structure start to bend downward as the leaves weigh more and more.

Day 5 (Sixth Day)

Observations

I started to notice that not all of the Pichay leaves have the
signiature butterfly structure and that some had typical round leaves
looking like an organic fan. Newer leaves start to branch out from the
stems of the saplings and they now like miniature trees. The V-structure
looks rather like a V with flat lines branching out in its lines since the
leaves now are large and can be compared in size as the nail in my
thumb. I also noticed the grass and auxiliary plants start to grow out. But I
decided to leave them as I deemed them not a parasites but as “friends”
in which the Pichay plants “socialize” with them

Day 6 (Seventh Day)

14-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

The saplings continue to grow in size to a much larger dimension

and even I can’t say that they’re still saplings but small plants already.
Their leaves widened much bigger, their petioles looking like small
branches, and the newer leaves are also growing. My Nanay (nanny)
picked up some saplings to have them grow in her house’s garden that’s
why the saplings are now less in amount. The neighboring grasses also
grew I size but they had no effect on the growth of the sapling as they still
retained their constant development and yet their growth everyday is still
increasing and lively every day.

Day 7 (Eigth Day)

15-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

The small plants look different from their appearance as saplings

and I am proud to say that I have done well in raising my plant as of this
time with no errors and yet experiencing loss because of some being
removed to be transferred to my Nanay’s garden and ended up dying
because they failed to adapt to the environment. I observed that the
butterfly wing leaves slowly disappeared and being replaced by the
circular fan-like leaves. I realized that the butterfly leaves are just the
starting leaves of the plant to support itself and that they would be
replaced by the fan leaves later that would be the plant’s leaves until it
matures and ready to be harvested.

Day 8 (Ninth Day)

16-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

This is the second to the last entry for this task as I’ve already
achieved the requirement of the selected plant growing healthy and not
dying. The small plants are now bigger than ever before and that the
starters butterfly wings leaves fully disappeared from the plants. Yet some
of the leaves of the small plants have also retain the butterfly leaves but
they are rarely seen, and the fan leaves are very common. The small
plants are now almost developed and that they are now are starting to not
change in appearance anymore but grow in size until it fully matures and
ready to be harvested.

Day 9 (Tenth Day)

17-6-22

PERFORMANCE TASK IN 4TH GRADING GENERAL BIOLOGY II Joshua Emmaneil G. Limosnero

Observations

As the last the entry of the task, the activity was very successful in
my opinion and that everything went well. The plant barely did not change
at all and that the only thing that I notice is their size. Overall, as I have
said in my past entries, the small plant looks very different from its primal
sapling appearance with significant changes being the leaves from bring
butterfly wings-like to being fan-like, and its transparent white stems to
being green and harder. Even with these changes, the practice of digging
up the soil and moistening it still remained until these fragile plants can
be harvested and be used as food. ________________________________
