UNIT 4: NUMBERS TO 8
LESSON 1: Number 7 & 8

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:


- Write 7 and 8 in numbers and words.
- Count from 1 to 8 in English.
II. LANGUAGE:
Language focus: listening, speaking, reading, writing.
Vocabulary: seven, eight, butterfly, caterpillar.
III. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: flash cards, pictures, word cards, sticks, clay. (number 7, number 8,
balloons, …)
IV. TEACHING PROCEDURES:

Warm up (8 mins)
Objective: To help students review the knowledge and start the lesson

- Greet students. whole class


Hello song
- Ask students sing along the song.
- Weather report
- Stick Class Rules.
Classroom signals whole class
- Let the students revise the classroom signals.
Teacher says
- Stay in front of class and ask students to stand up. When they hear
the numbers, they have to use their body to make that numbers. For
example: one – stand straightly.
- Students listen and say the number loudly while acting.
- Invite 3 – 4 students to take turn.

Presentation (5 mins)
Objective: Count from 1 to 8 in English.

Lead in:
- Draw six balloons on the board, point to one balloon and ask:” What
is this?” whole class
- Students answer: balloon.
- Ask: “How many balloons are there?”
- Students: “Six”
- Check and count: “One, two, three, four, five, six”.
- Draw one more balloon and count: “One, two, three, four, five, six,
seven, seven, seven”.
- Students repeat in chorus.
- Draw one more balloon and count: “One, two, three, four, five, six,
seven, eight, eight, eight”.
- Write 7 and 8 in numbers and words to introduce new words: 7 –
seven; 8 – eight.
- Ask students to repeat in chorus.
- Students pass the Flashcards and read the new words individually.

Practice (17 mins)


Objective: Write 7 and 8 in numbers and words.

1. Count and write


- Show picture: individuals

- Introduce new words: “Bug” and “Butterfly”


- Ask some students to stand up and count the bugs and butterflies.
Students count them individually.
- Explain that students must trace and write.
- Have students open their books page 23 and do task 1 and 2
- Have students to say aloud the number when they write or trace.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

2. Game: Which number is it?


- Students work in pairs. pairs
- Explain the rule: One student will show his/ her back to friends. His
friends will use finger to write numbers on their back. Students has to
guess and say what number is it.
- Invite couple pairs to check their work.
3. Count and underline
individuals
- Ask student to look at their books page 24
- Use picture to introduce new word: “caterpillar”
- Have students repeat in chorus and individuals.
- Let student open their books page 24 and look at task 3.
- Explain that students have to count loudly and underline the correct
words.
- Help students to know the difference between singular and plural.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.

Conclusion (5 mins)

Animal
- Have students work in groups of six. groups
- Give each group 8 sticks, and a piece of clay.
- Ask student to make an animal that has 8 legs.
- Students count the legs loudly.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

LESSON 2: Count on and back

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:


- Count from 1 to 8 in English.
- Count on and back.
II. LANGUAGE:
Language focus: listening, speaking, writing.
Vocabulary: count on, count back.
III. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: flash cards, word cards, pictures, dices, sticks, group boards, glue.

Warm up (8 mins)
Objective: To help students review the knowledge and start the lesson

- Ask students sing along the song.

Whisper game.
- Invite 10 or 12 students and divide into 2 teams.
- Teacher says a number or phrase to the first students; for
example: “two bears”. The first students have to whisper the
number or phrase to the next one. The last students have to say
the number or phrase loudly. Give points if it is correct.
- - Play in 4 – 5 turns.

Presentation (5 mins)
Objective: Count from 1 to 8 in English.

Lead in:
- Write number 1 and number 2 on the board.
- Ask students: “What number is it?” whole class
- Students answer: number 1, number 2.
- Ask students: “What number is after number 2?”
- Students answer.
- Continue writing to number 8.
- Explain key word: “Count on”
- Have students count from 1 to 8 loudly.
- Point to number 8 on the board and ask students to count back.
- Explain key word: “Count back”
- Ask students to count on and count back in chorus.

Practice (17 mins)


Objective: Count on and back.

1. Pass the ball


- Give a ball to a student, student counts 1 and pass the ball to Whole class
his/her friend.
- The next student counts 2 and keeps passing the ball.
- When the students count to 8, they have to count back from 8
to 1.
2. Count and write
- Have students open their books page 25 and do task 1
individuals
- Have students count aloud and write the number in order.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

3. Game: Before and after


- Have students work in groups. groups
- Explain the rule: students take turn to roll dice. When they see
the number on the dice. They have to say the number before and
after of the number on the dice.
- Play 7 – 8 turns.
- Encourage when they say the correct numbers.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.
4. Write the missing numbers individuals
- Let student open their books page 25 and look at task 2.
- Explain that students have to write the missing numbers and
say the range of numbers loudly.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

Conclusion (5 mins)

Make a number
- Have students work in groups of six. groups
- Give each group 8 sticks.
- Rule: Teacher call out a number from 1 to 8 and students have
to make a number using those sticks. Ask students how many
sticks they use to make that number. Count the sticks aloud.
- Play in 4 – 5 turns.

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

- Know number from 0 to 8.

Vocabulary: egg, cloud, zero...
III. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: flash cards, pictures, word cards, marbles, bag, crayons …

- Students: “one”
- Erase the rest and say: “zero”.
- Write zero in numbers and words to introduce new words: zero -
0.
- Ask students to repeat in chorus.
- Students pass the Flashcards and read the new words
individually.

Objective: Know number from 0 to 8.

1. Trace and write


- Show picture: individuals

- Ask some students to stand up and count the apples. Students


count them individually.
- Explain that students must trace and write.
- Have students open their books page 27 and do task 1 and 2
- Have students to say aloud the number when they write or trace.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

2. Game: How many balls?


- Students work in groups. groups
- Give each group a bag and 8 marbles.
- Explain the rule: One student will close his/her eyes and the other
students will hide the marbles. Student with closed eyes will put
his/her hand in the bag and counts the marble loudly. Students in
group will give a big applause when student says the correct
number.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.
3. Count and write the correct numbers individuals
- Ask student to look at their books page 27
- Use picture to introduce new word: “eggs”
- Have students repeat in chorus and individuals.
- Let student open their books page 27 and look at task 3.
- Explain that students have to count loudly and write the correct
numbers.
- Help students to know the difference between singular and plural.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.

Conclusion (5 mins)

Color the picture


- Have students look at task 4 page 29. individual
- Have students say the numbers in the picture loudly.
- Have students say the numbers with the correct color.
- Have students color the picture.
- Go around and help students when it’s necessary.
- Check all students’ work when they finish.
