SMOOTH MOVES
H
appy Holidays! As we close this tumultuous year, I want to
thank each and every one of my readers for their continued
support, especially during these very tough economic con-
ditions. Much love!
Now, you know nobody does it better than SMOOTH, and this time
around is no different. As always, our annual SMOOTH Girl 100 issue is the
last one of the year. But we did it a little differently this time. After the
paper ballots were tabulated, we opened voting for the very first time on
our website, and I heard the voters loud and clear. If your favorite
SMOOTH Girl did not win, make sure you start sending in your votes early
for the 2014 competition.
This edition is one that’s very dear to me, because I get to revisit all
the beautiful women that I’ve featured through the years. The experi-
ence always brings back fond memories, but I’m also looking toward the
future. Our two covergirls are SMOOTH rookies being featured for the very
first time. One is an export from the Dominican Republic, Karina P., and
the other is Catrisa Turner, an up-and-coming actress from the Peach
State, Georgia. What’s amazing is that they’re both confident, curva-
ceous, beautiful, ambitious, single, and they both like old-fashioned
men.
Somewhat coincidentally, both our Recess interview subject, Yo Gotti,
and our Ones2Watch, August Alsina, are artists from the streets who
used music as a resource to turn their lives around. Then there’s our Shine
feature with the real Rick Ross, who turned his life around as well, rein-
venting himself as a philanthropist. Their stories are inspiring to me—
and to you, too, I hope.
Make sure you don’t forget to check out our Holiday Gift Guide, which
is loaded with gizmos that you’ll want to add to your wish list. There’s
also our Holiday Game Guide to satisfy the kid in you. Plus, there’s our
usual mix of reviews of movies, books, and DVDs.
I won’t keep you any longer. It’s time for you to start turning the
pages of yet another amazing issue of our fine publication.

Stay SMOOTH!

When I saw Ayisha Diaz first appear in SMOOTH, real spit, I

was in love…with two women. The other would be Yoncee’s
sexy ass. I mean, those two ladies (besides Cubana Lust) are
some of the best ever to grace the cover of SMOOTH! Yo! Their
bodies are so well put together. Their hips, thighs, waist,
breasts—everything’s straight! I know no human’s perfect,
but when Allah created Ayisha and Yoncee, perfection was
a mere ½-inch away. Ayisha said that she and another girl
took turns on a guy in a hotel room while Yoncee said she
likes to flirt with females when she’s had a few and kiss girls
when she’s drunk. Ayisha and Yoncee should get together
and work on somethin’ big: me! Holla!

Hey, SMOOTH. Your models are hot, but I have to comment on what you put on them sometimes, es,
like too much bling bling. They don’t need all that. Their bling bling is their beautiful bodies. That’s’s
enough, so don’t cover them up.

DRAKE
WOULD YOU
LIKE A TOUR?
10/18/13 – 3/25/14

D rizzy is nothing if not accomodat-

ing. While other rappers wouldn’t
ask their fans’ permission before they
went out on tour, that’s not the sensitive
superstar‘s style. Hence the name of his con-
cert series in support of his chart-busting third
album, Nothing Was the Same. Apparently, it’s
true what they say: Canadians are really polite!
Luckily for Drake, the answer was a resounding
yes: The masses do want a tour. They’ve been
coming out in droves to see him all across
North America, from his hometown, Toronto,
and other venues in Canada to major venues
all over the U.S. Singers Miguel, Future,
PartyNextDoor and The Weeknd are accom-
panying Drake as supporting acts at various
stages of the tour, with other special guests
making appearances. Some drama threatened
to put a damper on the proceedings when
Future was temporarily booted off the tour fol-
lowing some disparaging comments he made
about Drake in an interview with Billboard, but
he got reinstated a day later after he started
taking about a $1.5 million lawsuit to recoup
lost wages. It’s all good now, with the tour
finishing up its American dates before taking a
break for the holidays. Then it’s off to Europe,
with dates scheduled from the U.K. to France
to Sweden. The set list has stayed fairly consis-
tent, so if you’re a superfan, it might be worth
hopping on a plane to the Continent to catch
him ripping through his major hits, including
his unexpected cover of the late-period Wu
banger, “Wu-Tang Forever.”

BUILD YOUR CASE

Eventually, you may have to confront your girl about what’s
going on. Unfortunately, this can get complicated. Odds are
good that your girl has known her best friend far longer than
she’s known you. But bear in mind that she might not neces-
sarily take your side when you claim that her BFF has been
trying to seduce you behind her back. Even worse, the best
friend might take your rejection personally and try to get
revenge by claiming that it was you who tried to seduce her. If
it comes down to your word against hers, you’ll have a tough
time proving your innocence. That’s why you need to collect
evidence. You may have to take extreme measures as as low-
down as recording your conversations with her. Other forms of
evidence are eyewitness testimony, but if she’s stealthy, she’s
not likely to do her dirty deeds in front of other people. Women
know their best friends better than they know themselves, and
if your account has the ring of truth about it, she should be
able to tell that you’re not making it all up. Keep in mind that
using this evidence should be a last resort.

It’s a dilemma every man has faced at some
point. You’re out with your girl when anoth-

you’re slick, but your girl sees you checking
her out and you find yourself in a world of
pain. Where is the line between innocent
curiosity and ocular infidelity? We asked our

W hen it comes to the problem of wandering eyes, my opinion

is that eyes are made to see. Looking is not cheating. There’s
nothing wrong with checking out other women as long as
you’re discreet enough that your girl never notices your wan-

jar is a surefire way to start a never-ending argument and
lose the trust of your woman!
I’ve also been on the opposite side of that situation, and believe me, it’s not pretty.

Since I’m not the jealous type, I wanted to get more perspectives on this topic.
That’s why I asked three of my girlfriends from different walks of life when it’s okay
for a man to look at another woman and when it’s not. Here is what they had to say...

“When he’s not with you, he can look at whoever he wants. He shouldn’t do
it when he’s with you, though, because that’s disrespectful. Now, if you say,

N ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (Paramount) December 20

Anchorman isn’t just the movie that transformed Will Ferrell from the standout member of a fairly weak Saturday Night Live cast into a full-fledged movie star. It’s also one of the most beloved
comedies of the past decade. So its sequel is kind of a big deal. Ferrell returns as legendary San Diego newsman Ron Burgundy, a 1970s playboy now stranded in the 1980s. He’s moved to
New York to work at the first 24-hour cable news channel, and he’s brought his whole crew (Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Christina Applegate) with him. But they’re not the only
ones tagging along. Pretty much every actor in Hollywood is in here: Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, Jim Carrey, Liam Neeson, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman, Sacha Baron Cohen, Vince Vaughn,
Meagan Good, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, John C. Reilly, Luke Wilson… Even Kanye freakin’ West is in this thing. If you don’t go see it, we’re pretty sure the entire movie industry will collapse.

N GRUDGE MATCH
(Warner Bros.) December 25
Sometimes the universe presents you with a joke so obvious that no one can resist it. We’re no
exception, so here goes: Grudge Match is Rocky vs. Raging Bull. Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro,
stars of the two greatest boxing movies ever made, play Henry “Razor” Sharp and Billy “The Kid”
McDonnen, two old rivals who get back in the ring after 30 years to settle old scores. This feel-good
comedy from frequent Adam Sandler co-conspirator Peter Segal (Anger Management) co-stars Kevin
Hart, LL Cool J, Alan Arkin, and Kim Basinger.

N 47 RONIN
(Universal) December 25
Seemingly ageless surfer dude Keanu Reeves returns from a lengthy hiatus in a role
tailor-made for his vaguely exotic looks, onscreen martial arts experience, and aura
of Zen calm: a half-Asian samurai out to avenge the death of his master in feudal
Japan. The same story has been filmed seven times in Japan, although we’re betting
those versions were heavier on the Bushido code and lighter on the CGI demons.
N LONE
SURVIVOR
(Universal) January 10
Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus
Luttrell, the sole surviving mem-
ber of SEAL Team 10, whose 2005
mission to capture or kill a notori-
ous Taliban leader went tragically
awry. If it weren’t a true story (told
by Luttrell himelf in the book the
movie is based on) we’d complain
that the film’s title constitutes a
spoiler warning. Peter Berg (Han-
cock) directs. Taylor Kitsch, Ben
Foster, and Emile Hirsch co-star.

N JACK RYAN:
SHADOW RECRUIT
(Paramount) January 17
CIA analyst Jack Ryan, star of a series of bestselling techno-
thrillers by recently deceased author Tom Clancy, is a role that’s
burned through nearly as many actors as James Bond in less than
half the time. But after taking up the much more iconic mantle of
Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot, Chris Pine should find filling
in for Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck a snap. This
prequel focuses on a young Ryan dealing with a terrorist plot
to crash the U.S. economy. Kevin Costner and Keira Knightley
co-star. Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directs and plays the head villain.

N RIDE ALONG
(Universal) January 17
After years of playing wacky best friends
and other comic relief sidekicks, standup
superstar Kevin Hart takes a stab at
leading man status with this comedy
about a pint-sized but feisty security
guard who goes on patrol with his girl-
friend’s badass cop brother (Ice Cube, a
long way from “F-ck Tha Police”) to win
both a spot on the force and his girl’s
hand in marriage. Directed by Tim Story,
who’s teaming with his Barbershop star
Cube for the third time, it’s the perfect
set-up for Hart’s improvised wisecracks
and Cube’s straight-man screwface.
Universal is so confident in the film’s box
office chances that a sequel is rumored
to already be in development.

N Fast & Furious 6 (Universal)

Most franchises have long run out of gas by the time they get to their sixth installment, but the Fast & Furious saga is still picking
up speed. Vin Diesel and nearly the entire extended cast reunite for an adventure that takes them speeding across the highways
of Europe, wrecking an entire import car lot worth of automobiles along the way. The film is longtime F&F director Justin Lin’s
farewell to the series he brought back from the brink of extinction, and he goes out on a high note with the biggest action set-
pieces of his career, from metal-shredding showdowns between tanks, planes, and muscle cars to bone-crunching beatdowns
starring Vin, the Rock, and women’s MMA champion Gina Carano. Lin will be missed, but he left the door open for Part 7 with a
mid-credits scene introducing a surprise new villain played by one
of the premier tough guys of our day. Stuff like this makes
other action movies look like they’re stuck in neutral.

N Man of Steel: Collector’s Edition

(Warner Home Video)
Man of Steel arrived in theaters on a tidal wave of hype and left amidst a
storm of controversy. Fanboys bristled at the brooding tone, courtesy
of producer Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight), while pundits
clutched their pearls at the brutality of the fight scenes, courtesy
of director Zack Snyder (300). It’s a shame, because Man of
Steel is a truly epic motion picture. Snyder’s uncompro-
mising eye for spectacle takes us from a dying Krypton
straight off of the cover of an old pulp paperback to a
jaw-dropping final battle that leaves Metropolis in ruins. It also
doesn’t skimp on the emotions, painting a picture of a conflicted
Superman who’s both All-American boy Clark Kent and frighteningly
powerful alien being Kal-El. This box set is as massive as the film itself,
featuring the theatrical version of the film on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and DVD,
a limited edition metal “S” with acrylic stand, and hours of superpowered extras.

 PS3
Driving simulators are all about realism, and the sixth
edition of the perennial Gran Turismo series is the most
visceral racing game yet. An efficient new game en-
gine increases both the pixel power and the physics
of automotive transport, not to mention boosting the
game’s ability to be expanded with downloadable con-
tent. There’s also an upsurge in connectivity with other
devices, such as smartphones and tablets. While you
might not be able to tweet or check Facebook while
driving your real car, GT6 boasts more social and com-
munity functions than ever before, keeping you plugged
in to the gaming community. With 1,200 cars (and more
downloadable rides to come), 33 locations, 71 different
layouts, and more, GT6 is so authentic, you can practically
feel the wind in your hair.

After years of delays, the once-and-future shot-caller of all basketball fran-

most sophisticated this series has ever delivered, while the audio elements
include real-life chatter from players, coaches, and broadcasters recorded
by ESPN make you feel like you’re really out on the court. The gameplay is
updated, as well, with more intuitive passing controls and defensive strate-
gies available at the push of a button. The most significant upgrade is the
dribbling, which is uniquely customized for each player. With multiple career
modes and updated stats supplied by Synergy Sports, it’s the best way to

Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo) Q Wii U

He might be corny as hell, a remnant of video games’ history as a
childish hobby, but there’s still magic to be found every time a new
Super Mario title hits shelves. The gaming industry’s very own Mickey
Mouse returns in the first multiplayer 3D Mario game for the Wii U
console. For the first time since Super Mario 2 for the eight-bit NES,
you’ll be able to play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad—and
for the first time ever, you can play them all at the same time. Each
character has unique abilities and styles, so the fun of the game is
utilizing all of their qualities to their best advantage. Colorful 3D
environments provide that vintage sun-kissed surrealism that’s been
lighting up TV screens for over 30 years, while some new puzzle ele-
ments and power-ups prove that there’s still some life in this old classic.

combatants (which can be expanded through download-
able content) match fists and wits. The game’s combat
system avoids 100-hit combos that turn players into
spectators by introducing combo-breakers that require
true skill and lightning-fast reactions to pull off. A new
“Instinct Mode” grants each character unique abilities,
allowing players to think outside of the box to pull off
some truly devastating maneuvers.

N March: Book One

By John Lewis, Andrew Aydin & Nate Powell (Top Shelf Productions)
Fourteen-term U.S. Congressman John Lewis is no joke. Raised on a sharecropper’s farm in rural Alabama, the former
seminary student and SNCC chairman has become one of the country’s most-respected Black politicians. In between, he
did a lot of living. He attended school in segregated classrooms, was the youngest speaker at the March on Washington,
played a major role in the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer, and was beaten by state troopers during Civil Rights protests.
He was also arrested more than 40 times. March: Book One is a graphic memoir, and first of a trilogy, detailing the
beginning phase of Lewis’ trajectory: growing up in the Jim Crow South, experiencing a life-changing encounter with
COMICS

Martin Luther King, Jr., engaging in nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, and more. While Lewis is the inspiration, the book’s
facilitators are Andrew Aydin, Lewis’ congressional media aide, and Nate Powell a New York Times cartoonist. His illustra-
tions are exquisitely rendered, in particular the shading of skin tones of the participants, making each character and their
emotions stand out. The graphic format intensifies the drama and humiliation so intertwined with this story. March: Book
One‘s combination of powerful graphic images and a lean narrative complement each other, breathing new life into a
disturbing chapter in American history.

Catrisa
Catrisa Turner is one of the few urban models to successfully make the tran-
sition to acting. But it wasn’t luck that made the difference. It was hard
work and determination that got her over all the obstacles in her path.

3-//4(-!'#/- s 87
Let’s start off with an introduction.
Hi, I am Catrisa Turner, and I’m a full-time
model and actress. I was born and raised in
a small town outside Birmingham, Alabama,
and I currently live in Atlanta.

What are your measurements?

I’m 32-24-38. I’m not that big but I have
curves.

What took you to Atlanta?

My acting career. There’s a lot of filming going
on here in Atlanta. I am currently working on
two films: a scary movie called No Reason
directed by Carla Saunders and another film
that I can’t disclose the information on yet.

How did you end up in SMOOTH?

This is my first urban magazine in a very long
time. I think the last mag I did was probably
about four years ago. I ran into a couple of
magazines that weren’t very tasteful, so it
kind of turned me off from the urban market.
I was a little hesitant to shoot for an urban
magazine, but when Ms. Sandy calls, you
have to come out of retirement. Knowing
the magazine was owned by this wonderful,
strong woman inspired me to jump back in
one more time. I was more than flattered
to know she wanted me to shoot for her
magazine.

Tell us about your acting career. What

other work have you done?
Recently, I did an independent film called
Stakes that’s currently being shopped
around. I play a track star named Summer
Speed. We’ve done a couple of film festivals
across the country for the project. We won
an award at the Black Film Festival in San
Francisco and another one at the Sidewalk
Film Festival in Alabama. The response has
been awesome! I’ve had speaking roles on
The Game as well. I’m actually shooting with
them again.

Has the transition from modeling to acting

been easy?
It hasn’t been as easy as modeling came to
me. Modeling came more naturally for me.
With acting, I had to put a lot more into it.
I really had to study, go to class, and learn
my craft. You can’t just be pretty.

What is the biggest struggle you’ve faced

as an actress?
The first movie I did was last year, and I was
bullied by my other cast members. I went
through hell behind the scenes. Being a
C atrisa
model trying to transition into acting, I
had to prove myself. There were other ac-
tresses who doubted me. They would treat
me differently than the rest of the cast.
Some of them even went to the director,
questioning him about hiring me for the
part. It was hard, but I worked through it
all and made it happen.

Is there a dream role you would like to

play?
I’d really love to play an action role, some-
thing like Tomb Raider. I’d love to be the
Black Angelina Jolie, just kicking ass and
blowing up shit throughout the whole
movie. I think that would be awesome.

An actress’ life is a busy one. What do you

enjoy doing in your free time?
Well, I don’t have much free time. Of
course, I love food and traveling. I enjoy the
outdoors as well. Some of my model friends
and I love to go hiking and exercising in
the park. I love the peace and serenity.

You probably don’t have much time to

date. When it comes to guys, do you
have a type?
Physically, I like a big man. I like to feel
small. I don’t like when I’m taller than the
guy. I’m 5’ 8” and 130 pounds, so I would
say they have to be at least six feet and
200 pounds.

When it comes to men, what is it that

catches your eye?
I pay attention to weird things. I love a
man with manners. That’s probably due
to the way I was brought up. My dad
was the perfect gentleman at all times.
I like a quiet, stern, manly man. I like a
guy who can command a room without
opening his mouth. That’s what gets my
attention: someone who’s down to earth,
humble, and goal oriented. I’m not into the
attention-seeking “life of the party” type.

What’s your ideal date?

It would just be me and that person having
the best conversation, in the most beautiful
place, over a beautiful meal. I’m really into
deep conversations. More than anything,
the most important thing is that you have
to wow my brain. We don’t have to have an

expensive meal at a crazy restaurant. You just
need to be able to stimulate my mind. That’s
how you’re going to get me.

What do you consider the foundation to a

healthy relationship?
I know some people would say honesty, but
I think that’s bullshit. There are some things
that you can’t say to your significant other. All
honesty isn’t good honesty. You can really hurt
someone by being totally honest.

So if it’s not honesty, what is the key?

Chemistry, both physically and mentally, is
important. I have to be with somebody I want
to attack at any moment. When I think of chem-
istry, I think of that sexual tension and attrac-
tion you have with somebody. It’s that factor
where there’s something about somebody that
just drives you crazy. It’s the kind of chemistry
where he can say anything, and I’m like, “Okay,
I’ll get naked right now.”

Besides chemistry, what is it that turns you

on?
For me, I believe you can tell a lot about a
person by their kiss. If a guy kisses well that’s
a huge turn-on.

We take it you’re more on the sensual side

of things. When it comes to sex, are you ever
aggressive?
Yes, I’m aggressive. It’s surprising, because guys
are like, “I never would have thought that you
get like that. You seem so sweet and whole-
some!” But yeah, there’s no pillow princess over
here. [laughs]

Are there any signs you give to let your man

know you’re in the mood?
I’ll start taking his clothes off. I’m like, “You
don’t need this shirt, these pants, or this un-
derwear. Let me help you out of them.” [laughs]

What about friends with benefits? Do you

believe in those?
No, that may work for some people but it
doesn’t work for me. I can’t have meaningless
sex. There has to be something more. I have
to know you.

We take it you’ve never indulged in a one-

night stand?
No. I tried once, but it turned into a relationship.
I’ve always been a relationship type of girl. The
one time I tried not being in a relationship, it

I’LL GET

atrisa didn’t work out. I guess it’s quality over
quantity, right?

Do you have any bedroom fantasies you

would like to fulfill?
I don’t think so. I really live my life to the
fullest. Anything I want to do, I pretty
much do it. That goes for the bedroom
as well.

What does the future hold for Catrisa?

I want to continue to do movies. I have
fallen in love with acting and I don’t see
myself quitting anytime soon.

Before we sign off, do you have any

words of advice for models looking to
make the same transition you did?
Be hungry, but don’t be so hungry that
you lose yourself in this industry. Always
stay true to yourself and always do what
makes you happy. Because
at the end of the day,
you’re the one who has
to live with any decision
you make. Your dreams are
your dreams for a reason,
so never stop pursuing
them.

How can your fans keep

Retired drug kingpin “Freeway” Rick Ross has overcome more hurdles than an Olympic athlete. Now living on

the mountain where you will be greeted by a statue of Christ the Redeemer, reminiscent of
the famous statue in Brazil. Make sure you take in the picturesque views of the ocean and

abundant with plants and wildlife that it was granted status as a nature reserve.

centuries, these secret waterfalls are one of the most beautiful destinations in the
world. Most trips include a guided tour of the lower seven falls and usually last a few
hours, but for the full experience, arrangements can be made to take you through all

SEASONAL
WEIGHT
GAIN
There’s one present that Santa brings most
of us every year that we could all live with-
out: all those extra pounds from pigging
out on holiday food. But it doesn’t have
to be that way. Follow these 10 tips and
you can manage (or even eliminate) your
seasonal weight gain.

1 Everything in moderation. Moderation is the key to keeping yourself in

balance. You can still have pie, but just have one small slice instead of three
big pieces. The last thing you want to do is make yourself feel deprived. Studies
show that the more deprived a person feels, the more preoccupied they become with food.
If you allow yourself a taste, you will be less likely to eat the whole pie when no one is
6 Give yourself a break. No matter how popular you are, you probably don’t
have Christmas parties to go to every day during the holidays. After the carb,
fat, and sugar overload of a particularly busy weekend, your body might be in
need of a rest. Try a few days of vegetables, fruits, and maybe a few whole grains to help
clean out your system before the next holiday feast.

3 Avoid white carbs as much as possible. White carbohydrates come from

refined white flour, which can be found in foods like bread, pasta, and basi-
cally anything that has been processed in any way. Uusually, these foods have
more calories than nutritional content. Sadly, this makes up most of the food that gets laid
out for a Christmas spread. You can have a taste here and there, but try to make healthier
8 Eat regular meals. During the holidays, it is often tempting to skip meals to
make room for party food. However, if you eat regular meals, you allow your
body to maintain a consistent blood sugar level. It is important to plan your
meals and snacks throughout the day. Starving yourself all day and then eating a massive
dinner is not an effective plan for weight maintenance. It has also been shown that people
choices when you’re filling your plate. who eat breakfast have more stamina throughout the day than people who don’t.

4 Hydrate yourself. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, so drink some water
before reaching for a snack. A large glass of water a few minutes before a
meal will also help you not overeat because your stomach will already be full. 9 Get a good night’s sleep. It’s easy to stay up all night during the holiday
season, but studies have proven a link between sleep deprivation and weight
gain. People who don’t get enough sleep often have a challenge controlling
