& Sustainability

Reflections:
I feel like this course has really helped me understand myself better, especially in terms of my
ethics and values. During the course, we examined a variety of ethical theories, examined case
studies from the actual world, and had stimulating conversations. I thought a lot about my basic
morals, beliefs, and values as a result of these exercises. I was able to comprehend my ethical
position in a more complex and reflective way as a consequence. This helped me understand my
ethical views better and think more deeply about them.
Learning about different ethical ideas was really interesting. We talked about theories like
utilitarianism, ethics in buisness, and ethical culture, among others. This helped me see ethical
decision-making from different angles and understand that people have diverse moral views.
Looking at real-life examples and discussing ethical problems also helped me use these theories
in real situations, making me better at thinking carefully about ethical issues.
Also, talking about different ethical topics with classmates and teachers gave me useful ideas.
Hearing different points of view and having respectful arguments made me question my
assumptions and understand difficult ethical issues better. These talks also made me more
empathetic and understanding towards how others think about ethics, which helped me grow
as an ethical thinker.
One important thing I learned from this course was to understand others better and be more
empathetic. By looking at ethical problems from different angles, I became more aware of how
complicated ethical decisions can be. This helped me understand and relate to different
viewpoints, making me better at handling ethical challenges in my personal life and at work.
(Santa Clara University, 2021)
Although my main morals and ethics haven't really changed, I have noticed some small but
important changes in how I think about ethics. For example, I now understand better how the
situation affects ethical choices. This has made me more open to different ways of thinking
about ethics, instead of always following strict rules.
Finally, this course taught me to think deeply about myself and keep learning as crucial parts of
growing ethically. I learned that getting better ethically is not something that happens once; it's
a journey of thinking about myself, learning new things, and improving my ethical beliefs over
time. This idea has inspired me to always try to be better and think about ethics in everything I
do. (Business News Daily, 2023)
In summary, this course helped me a lot in developing my ethical thinking and growing
personally. It gave me the knowledge, skills, and viewpoints I needed to handle difficult ethical
problems with understanding, critical thinking, and honesty. I believe that what I learned here
will always help me make ethical choices and make a positive impact on society.
Three Concepts/Points of View:
Utilitarianism vs. Deontology:
I learned about two ethical ideas: utilitarianism, which is about making choices that create
happiness for many, and deontology, which is about following moral rules, even if they don't
lead to the happiest outcome.
Understanding these ideas changed how I make decisions. Before, I focused on making people
happy. Now, I also think about following rules, even if it doesn't always lead to the happiest
result. This makes me think more about how my choices affect others and society. This is
helping me in my current workplace. (Medium, 2021)
Cultural Relativism:
Learning about cultural relativism made me question my belief in universal ethical rules. It
showed me how culture affects what we think is right or wrong, making me think more carefully
about ethical problems in different cultures. Now, I approach ethical issues with more sensitivity
and understanding of cultural differences. (Khan Academy, 2023)
Ethics in Business:
The discussions on ethics in business, including topics like ethics in business, Stakeholder
analysis and CSR, and the Impact of Culture, were particularly eye-opening. It emphasized the
ethical complexities inherent in modern business advancements and the need for ethical
considerations to keep pace with businesses and international business entry. (Fanshawe
College, 2024)
Overall, I think I've learned a lot from this course that will help me in my personal and work life.
The critical thinking skills I gained, understanding different viewpoints, and always thinking
about ethics will all be useful in making ethical decisions and handling ethical problems in the
future.
Top Five Values
The values that mean a lot to me are honesty, integrity, empathy, responsibility, and always
trying to get better. These values are important because they guide how I live and act, both in
my personal life and at work.
Honesty: I believe in being truthful and transparent in all my interactions. Honesty builds trust
and fosters genuine connections with others. It allows for open communication and promotes
authenticity in relationships. (STEPHEN M. BYARS AND KURT STANBERRY, 2018)
Integrity: It's really important to follow what's right and fair to keep our reputation and feel
good about ourselves. Integrity means doing what's right even if it's hard or tempting to do
something wrong. It's about staying loyal to our values and what we believe in. (STEPHEN M.
BYARS AND KURT STANBERRY, 2018)
Empathy: Understanding and caring about others' feelings and thoughts is crucial. Empathy
enables us to be kind, collaborate effectively, and foster a sense of belonging. It allows us to
form deeper connections with people and contribute to creating a more compassionate and
inclusive world. (STEPHEN M. BYARS AND KURT STANBERRY, 2018)
Responsibility: It's important for me to take responsibility for what I do, the choices I make, and
what happens because of them. Responsibility means doing what I need to do, learning from
when things go wrong, and trying to fix them. It also means being responsible for what I say and
do. (STEPHEN M. BYARS AND KURT STANBERRY, 2018)
Continuous Improvement: I believe it's good to be open to change, try new stuff, and keep
trying to be a better person. Continuous improvement means listening to advice, setting goals,
and dealing with new challenges to grow in both my personal life and career. (STEPHEN M.
BYARS AND KURT STANBERRY, 2018)
By including these values in my personal mission statement, I aim to live a meaningful and
satisfying life based on these guiding principles:
"My aim is to live truthfully and do what's right, being clear and morally sound in everything. I
value understanding and connection, wanting to deeply connect with others and make a
positive impact on a caring and inclusive society.
I take responsibility for my actions, learn from mistakes, and do my duties carefully. I believe in
always trying to get better, learning throughout life, growing, and facing changes positively.
I want to be a good example, inspire others, and spread positivity. I strive to build strong
relationships, earn trust, show respect, and help create a happy and successful community”.
This mission statement reflects my core values of honesty, integrity, empathy, responsibility, and
continuous improvement, guiding me in making ethical choices, growing personally, and
contributing positively to society.
