MBAs explored the world-famous Mumbai Dabbawalas during
their Industry Visit to Mumbai, Maharashtra
On the Day three of the Mumbai industrial visit, MBA students explored the world-
famous Mumbai Dabbawalas, where they learned about the precise process of
coding and sorting at the railway station that enables the association to handle
1,60,000 transactions every month. They also visited the newly inaugurated
Mumbai Dabbawala International Experience Centre, fully funded by the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), becoming the first college to
experience it after its launch. Students were introduced to the rich history of the
Dabbawalas dating back to 1890, when a Parsi banker’s need for home-cooked
meals in office gave rise to this unique system later formalized by Mahadeo Havaji
Bachche. The students experienced an engaging VR tour showcasing how over
5,000 Dabbawalas, dressed in their traditional white attire and Gandhi caps,
continue to deliver nearly 200,000 dabbas daily with unmatched efficiency, a
system so flawless that it has secured the prestigious Six Sigma certification with a
99.99999% success rate, sustaining the hunger and dreams of Mumbai for more
