1️Verbs + Preposition (Prepositional / Phrasal Verbs)


These verbs always demand a certain preposition:
 Rely on → He relies on his friends.

 Depend on → Success depends on hard work.

 Insist on → She insisted on coming early.

 Believe in → They believe in honesty.

 Belong to → This book belongs to me.

 Deal with → We must deal with the problem.

 Apply for → He applied for the job.

 Suffer from → She suffers from asthma.

2️Adjectives + Preposition
Certain adjectives always pair with a fixed preposition:
 Afraid of → She is afraid of snakes.

 Proud of → He is proud of his achievements.

 Capable of → She is capable of leading the team.

 Fond of → He is fond of cricket.

 Good at → She is good at painting.

 Bad at → He is bad at math.

 Famous for → That city is famous for its temples.

 Responsible for → Parents are responsible for their children.

 Interested in → I am interested in music.

 Involved in → He is involved in politics.

 Similar to → Your handwriting is similar to mine.

 Different from → This idea is different from yours.

 Accustomed to → He is accustomed to hard work.


 Addicted to → She is addicted to coffee.

 Angry with (person) → She is angry with her brother.

 Angry at (thing/situation) → She is angry at the delay.

 Keen on → He is keen on learning languages.

 Surprised at → I was surprised at his behavior.

 Satisfied with → She is satisfied with her results.

3️Nouns + Preposition
Some nouns always come with a preposition:
 Reason for → What is the reason for your absence?

 Demand for → There is a high demand for electric cars.

 Need for → There is a need for fresh water.

 Cause of → Smoking is the cause of many diseases.

 Effect on → Pollution has a bad effect on health.

 Influence on → Teachers have a great influence on students.

 Increase in → There has been an increase in prices.

 Decrease in → There is a decrease in rainfall this year.

 Rise in → A rise in inflation worries the government.


 Fall in → There is a fall in stock prices.

 Advantage of → The advantage of studying abroad is exposure.

 Disadvantage of → The disadvantage of smoking is health risk.

 Key to → Hard work is the key to success.

 Solution to → There is no solution to this problem.

 Reply to → I got a reply to my email.

 Invitation to → I received an invitation to the wedding.

 Access to → Only managers have access to the file.

 Obstacle to → Corruption is an obstacle to progress.

 Attitude towards → What is your attitude towards work?

 Dedication to → His dedication to teaching is admirable.
