Modern communications mean that it’s no longer necessary to write letters.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your
own knowledge or experience.

These days, the advent of the internet has revolutionized lives worldwide at
an unprecedented pace. I completely agree with the notion that there is no
longer a need to write letters due to advanced electronic communication, for
several reasons.
It is undeniable that we benefit from living in contemporary societies through
progressive developments in a wide variety of aspects, such as
communication. The internet has created a virtual global village in which
countless people can connect with each other regardless of how far apart
they are or which time zone they live in/ distance or time zone. In other
words, individuals can use the internet whether they are at home on their
personal computers or on the go with smartphones and laptops. Social media
networks and various smartphone applications provide opportunities for
communication between two or more people via text messages, voice calls,
or even video calls.
In addition, the internet provides users with convenient and rapid
communication at a reasonable price in diverse fields, from conducting
business to maintaining personal relationships. Transmitting information
and conveying messages is not limited to text; sending files, images, or
videos has led to a preference for using modern methods of communication
over traditional ones. Furthermore, the lack of body language or tone of voice
in written messages is compensated for by the creation of a large number
of emojis and stickers. Also, video conferencing, as well as voice and video
calls, all contribute to creating rapid and comfortable connections, thereby
avoiding misunderstandings. As a result, all the positive aspects of
electronic communication have led to the neglect of traditional methods of
establishing connections, such as writing letters.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that advanced methods of communication
surpass traditional ones due to their convenience, affordability, and speed,
so the old custom of writing letters is likely to disappear in the near future.
