here, i will post some prompts that i come up with and want to share, maybe some of you feel
inspired to write them!

ateez prompts for authors!

beware: before you use the prompt, please ask for my permission. we can then discuss it and
if needed i can support you during the process of the work or give you some extra
information i spared from the prompt.
(maybe one day i'll write one of them myself, who knows)

hongjoong is dead, but not gone. a gwishin, a restless ghost, trapped between worlds with no
memory of the purpose binding him to earth. when seonghwa’s family moves into the
mansion where hongjoong last drew breath, the two meet—one a boy too alive and too bored,
the other unable to rest. together, they search through echoes of hongjoong’s past lives,
unraveling centuries of unfinished business, forbidden love, and promises that refused to die.

each lifetime reveals the same story: a love that should not have been, a vow that ended in
tragedy, and a soul that carried its grief into the next. but in this life, everything is different.
because hongjoong’s love has returned once more—not as the girl he lost, but as seonghwa
himself.

now, hongjoong must face the truth: the purpose binding him here was never about finding
her again, but about finding love that could finally survive. yet when fulfilling that purpose
means letting go, both he and seonghwa must decide—can love remain when one is destined

398 days before his life fell apart, seonghwa was the happiest he had ever been.

little did he know, this happiness would soon turn into his worst nightmare.
the guy he met that day, he seems like prince charming, the knight in shining armour.
however, hidden beneath that armour was a mendacious monster.
with hearts and butterflies blinding his sight, seonghwa doesn't think about the consequences
when letting him talk him into sending nudes. the butterflies in his stomach soon turn to
beetles poisoning his body with anxiety and sickness.
the nudes show up on the school's network. for everyone to see. for everyone to share.

the day his life fell apart, was when the bullying started. with no way to escape his abuser.
whenever their paths cross in school, seonghwa shivers and looks to the ground, avoiding the
gazes and mean comments, the assaults and approaches from his ex and his friend group.
when one day one of them stands in front of him, he expects the usual. insulation, maybe slut
shaming. however, he's very confused when the guy apologises to him for his ex. “you
probably don't know who i am.. i just wanted to say sorry on his behalf, what he did to you is
awful...”, the guy said, glancing to the ground. seonghwa stayed silent. if he knew it was
wrong, why was he still friends with him? but he didn't verbalise his thoughts. when he didn't
reply, the guy started again.

“i'm hongjoong, by the way.”

a story of love and friendship, in the face of opposing sides and anxiety even in those, that
mask it well.

the story is inspired by amanda todd. for those of you who know her story, you know
what i am talking about. for those who don't, please be careful with the topic and handle
it with care.
if you want to write this prompt out, please co-operate with me on details, especially
about the mental health parts of the story. i didn't put a trigger warning for the prompt,
because nothing specific was mentioned just yet, but it should be added to your story if
you decide to write it.

once again, i imagined this as seongjoong, but could technically work with other ships
too!

Chapter Summary

when traumatic events are paired with a genetic disposition, it usually doesn't end well.
in hongjoong's case, it leads to schizophrenia.

“it's your fault.” hongjoong shut his eyes closely and turned away. “it's your fault! it's your
fault i'm dead!” the voice was closer this time, right in front of him. “stop...” hongjoong
mumbled and shut his eyes tighter until flickers filled his inner eyes.
“it's your fault! it's your fault!” the voice started chanting, crying, screaming at him, with no
mercy in a choir that grew louder the more hongjoong tried to ignore them.
“you're not real,” he said. “you're not real, you're not real.” he repeated the words like a
mantra, trying to make the voices go away, but they just grew louder. “you're not real! you're
not real, YOU'RE NOT REAL!” his scream was heartbreaking, tears filled his eyes when he
clawed at his hair and curled in on himself.

“hongjoong.” a new voice, a soft hand on his shoulder. like a ray of sunshine peaking through
the storm in his head.

“hongjoong, it's me, it's okay. you're safe here.” the hand on his shoulder was joined by
another one wrapped around his, gently unclenching one of his fingers after another.
hongjoong's chest heaved up and down with heavy breaths, his heart pounding quickly, caged
between his ribs. “it's my fault.. it's my fault..” hongjoong whimpered while his fingers
slowly relaxed again. the other cooed at him and gently laced their hands together. “no.. no,
hongjoong. it was an accident.. it's not your fault.. please open your eyes, okay? take a deep
breath and look at me, can you do that for me, love?” hongjoong took a deep breath and tried
to follow the instructions. his blood stopped rushing by the feeling of the warm hand against
his, his heartbeat slowed down to the other's pulse and he was able to focus on his breathing.
“just like that, you're doing great, love. just keep breathing,” he whispered and combed
through his hair with his free hand. hongjoong slowly relaxed his face again until he was able
to open his eyes slowly. his fear faded when he was met with the soft features of the man in
front of him. tanned skin, black silk hair and hazel eyes that scanned his face for any reaction.

“hwa...” his eyes lit up and he smiled softly, squeezing his hand. “you're back.. good..”
hongjoong smiled back for a second, before the realisation hit.
“it- it happened again-,” he said, his hand clenching again. “i- i thought the meds were
helping, but- i saw him again, i-” his voice was shaking and seonghwa cooed at him again.
“shh, shh, joong it's okay, it was not real. it was just a hallucination.”
 hongjoong looked at him again with teary eyes. “how... how can you still be here... i'm such a
mess...”

seonghwa smiled gently and placed a soft kiss on his hand. “well... in good times and in bad,
right? you're schizophrenic, hongjoong, not unlovable. we will work through this together.”
