conjunction?
Correct!
Conjunction
A conjunction is a word used to
connect words, phrases, and clauses.
So same as the given object, conjunction is
also used to connect clauses or sentences.
There are two types of conjunctions, a
primary class
of COORDINATING conjunctions and a
secondary class called SUBORDINATING
or SUBORDINATE conjunctions.
Coordinating Conjunction
This type of conjunction is used to
connect grammatically equal items: two
words, two phrases, or two independent
clauses. There are seven coordinating
conjunctions in English, and you can
remember them using the mnemonic device
FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
Two words
Example: Cake or bread will satisfy me.
Two phrases
Example: An old lady and a little girl were
seen together this afternoon.
Two independent clauses
Example: I wanted to help her, but I had no
way of telling her.
Subordinating Conjunction
This type of conjunction includes
words like As long as, because, even if, if,
unless, before, since, though, even though,
although, while, etc. They joined dependent
and independent clauses.
Example: After my father died, my mother
gave up on life.
Example: You could do a lot better if you
were a little more obedient.
