DRIVER INSTRUCTIONS

The ELME Model 953/954 Piggy back slave attachment for handling swap bodies, trailers
and other bottom lift containers. The attachment is designed to be picked up by, either a
20 to 40ft spreader in the 20ft mode or by a forklift truck if the unit is equipped with fork
pockets

The following is a description of the attachment and how it is intended to be operated

which should help the driver to obtain maximum productivity from the truck and spreader.

DESCRIPTION and OPERATION

DESCRIPTION.

The 953/954 piggy back attachment is designed for the safe handling of loaded trailers
and swap bodies.
The attachment is what is termed a "slave attachment" which means that it is a spreader
which has to be picked up and operated by another spreader. In the case of the model
953/954 it should be picked up by a 20 to 40ft container spreader in the 20 ft mode.

OPERATION

Picking up a load.
In order to reduce lift hight the normal mode for starting work with the spreader is
with the front legs in the unclamped and raised position.
- Lift the spreader high enough to allow ample room when placing it over the load.
- Drive carefully up to the load, ( swop body, trailer, or container.) and stop when
the rear feet are aprox. 10cm (4inch) from it.
- Lower the front legs until completly down.
- By using the trucks side shift and reach functions, position the feet accurately
in front of and just under the lifting points on the load.

CAUTION!! Take care not to scrape the feet on the ground when
picking up swop bodies or containers.

- Activate the clamp function until the clamped light illuminates and then visually
check that the feet are clamped in the correct position.
- Using the trucks tilt function adjust the mast position so that all 4 feet engage
on the load equally.
- Using the truck`s hoist function, raise the spreader until the feet engage on the
lifting points of the load and the seated light illuminates.
- As soon as the seated light has switched on it is safe to lift the load.

WARNING!!! Cornering at high speed and travelling over uneven

terrain can cause excessive swing, with the risk that the feet could loose
contact with the load and cause an accident.

To adjust leg raising sequence

First leg must rotate fully up (horisontal) before second
leg starts to rotate up.
Screw in adjuster on cartridge no 1 or 12 if necessary.
Try out which adjuster for leg raising sequence.
