Science language activity

1. Solute – The substance that dissolves in a liquid.


2. Solubility – The ability of a substance to dissolve in a liquid.
3. Solvent – The liquid in which a substance dissolves.
4. Rate – The time it takes to happen.
5. Crystallisation – A dissolved substance is changing into solid crystals again when the solvent
evaporates.

Revision Activity

2. Melting only involves one substance (solid and liquid is the same eg. Ice melts into
water). Substances melt when heat is added.

Dissolving involves two substances. The dissolved substance is still present in the
solution, it just cannot be seen.
