School Shared Vision
The San Antonio Elementary School in the next five years (2024-2029) aims to
become an educational institution that fosters a love of language, develop strong
literacy skills, and empower students to express themselves effectively in reading,
writing and listening skills.
Our goal is to improve students’ reading proficiency by 100% after five years in
key stage 1 by implementing targeted reading interventions. To provide high quality
literacy instruction in language where learners engage with a variety of texts that
develop their critical thinking and stimulate their interest and enjoyment in reading.
Faculty and staff will undertake professional development program for literacy
(INSET, LAC, Professional Development Training/Seminar and Collaborative Expertise)
that will equip them with the latest approaches and strategies (Phonics-Based
Approach, Marungko Approach, OGSL Approach) to enhance their facilitating skills in
teaching Beginning Reading.
School SMART Goal
Achieve this goal by the end of the school year 2024-2025.
1. 48 out of 57 or 85% of Key Stage 1 learners will improve their reading proficiency.
2. 4 out of 4 or 100% of kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers of San Antonio Elementary
School will attend INSET, LAC, Professional Development Training/Seminar and
Collaborative Expertise (Phonics-Based Approach, Marungko Approach, OGSL
Approach) to enhance their facilitating skills for Beginning Reading.
3. 100% support of the parents, barangay officials and stakeholders will be oriented
regarding the program to be launched emphasizing the well-being of the learners.
The school come up with a project, Project STAR, learners need literacy in order
to engage with the written word in everyday life.
S- start engaging learners in reading and
T-transform them into readers to
A-achieve most meaningful and enjoyable
R-reading journey
Some of the strategies which will be used in project STAR lessen the struggling
readers of San Antonio Elementary School are:
1. Peer-Assisted
Peer-Assisted Strategy is a peer-tutoring activity in which learners are
paired, with each pair alternating between the tutor (reader learner) and the tutee
(struggling learner). This allows learners to practice reading with their peers and
improves their literacy decoding, and comprehension skills.
Provide reading materials to be used during remedial hours.
Give take home reading exercises and ask parents’ to guide in reading.
2. Little Teacher Technique
The little teacher system is an educational method where children teach
each other. The method can help the struggling reader to read in ease because the
one teaching is of their same age, as if they are just playing.
3. Reading Aloud
The teacher will read aloud the words and the learner repeat after. The
teacher models vocabulary development, reading fluency and comprehension. It
brings learners together in order to listen, to think and share book, poems and charts.
4. One on One Teaching
The learner receives individualized instruction from the teacher. It
establishes a comfortable learning environment.
