BIG a$ffIRLLtRMlllES

1. In our century, much has been talked about an ideal family: which size of family rs considered ideal, a family with

or2 children or a big family with 5-6 or even 9-10

children? In European countries, an ideal family is a family which consists of 4 people, the
husband, the wife, and theirtwo- children. The reason why they favor a small family is not

entirely because they are not well off enough to provide their children with a good material

life but because they conceive that to.live means to enjoy life. If, in a family, the parents
are busy all their life taking care ofJheir children, how can they have a happy life?

I am of the

same opinion as most of the Europeans when they hold that an

I both go to work. About our material life,I do not think we

have any problem. Although we both are still in our late twenty, we never think of having more children. In my opinion, it is better to have one or two children, but the children are

well brought up than to have five or six children whose future we cannot sure of. Moreover,
as you

know, we are living in a country whose population is already quite thick. The

government with its policy of family planning and birth control always advises people to
have only one or two children to assure a happy life both in the family and the society. And,

with more than three children in a family, the parents certainly wiil have to toil and moil all
the year round to have food and clothes for rheir children.

small family, to me, always has a better chance to be a happv family, and the parents do not have to perpefually struggie against poverty and other family tragedies as what has been commonly seen in a big family.
