COMMUNICATIOM BUS OFF

P1766 CAN COMMUNICATIOM BUS OFF > General Information

Component Location

General Description
Due to vehicle electronic control many control units apply to the vehicle and these perform many controls by receiving signals from
sensor. So the common use among each sensors and the need of comunizing informations became a prominent figure. CAN
comunication method is used at power train (ABS, trnasmission, engine, ECS etc) control of vehicle because it withstands
eletronical external noise by generating spark and can high-speed comunication. Though CAN communication, ECM and TCM hold
engin RPM, APS, step of trensmission, decreasing of torque in common and perform the active control.

DTC Description
This failure code is set if CAN BUS ERROR on TCCU is continued for more than 1sec which is caused by poor contact on CAN
BUS or the failure of ECM and ABS(ESP).

DTC Detecting Condition

Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
DTC Strategy ; CAN Transmit error/loss of communication ; CAN Bus
; ABS MODULE,TCCU connector
Enable Conditions ; Ignition cycle required
looseness and poor terminal to wire
Threshold Value ; CAN transmit counter exceeds 255 connection.
Diagnostic Time ; CAN comm line circuit open/short.
; Faulty ECU .
MIL on condition ; Faulty ABS MODULE .
Fail Safe ; Faulty TCCU ..

Terminal and Connector Inspection
1. Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference
from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
2. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration,or damage.
3. Has a problem been found?
YES
a. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure
NO
a. Go to " CAN comm. Line Inspection " procedure.

CAN comm. Line Inspection

1. Engine : ON.
2. Measure resistance between terminal "4" of the TCCU harness connector and terminal "5" of the TCCU harness connector
(C101).
1) Specification : Approx. 60
The above value is only for reference. The actual value may differ from it according to various engine condition.

3. Is CAN(TCOMMUNICATIOM BUS OFF) Signal display near the specified value?

YES
a. Fault is intermittent caused by open or short in CAN signal harnessor was repaired and TCCU memory was not cleared.
Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.
NO
a. Check for open/short in CAN comunication line of TCCU circuit.
b. Check for the signal or component of Control module(ECU, ESP, ABS).
c. Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

P1766 CAN COMMUNICATIOM BUS OFF > Verification of Vehicle Repair

Verification of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Connect scan tool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode
2. Using scantool, Clear DTC.
3. Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information.
4. Are any DTCs present ?
YES
a. Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.
NO
a. System is performing to specification at this time.
