Lathe Tool Post


What is a Tool Post?
 A tool post is the part of a lathe that holds the cutting tool in place.
 It is mounted on the carriage and allows the tool to be adjusted for various
operations.
Functions:
 Holding the cutting tool securely
 Allowing adjustment for cutting angle and height
 Enabling quick tool change

 Square Tool Post (Four-Way)

Square Tool Post


Definition:
 Holds four tools at a time and rotates to bring each into position.
Advantages:
 Quicker tool change
 Versatility in operations
Components:
 Body block
 Indexing knob or bolt
 Clamping lever
 Tool holders (4)

Definition:
A simple tool post that holds a single cutting tool.
Components:
 Tool holder
 Clamping bolt
 Base plate
Applications:
 Ideal for basic turning operations
 Economical, but slow to change tools
