"HOPE" IS THE THING WITH FEATHERS

(Emily Dickinson)

Stanza 1

"Hope" is the thing with feathers --

That perches in the soul--

And sings the tune without the words--

And never stops-- at all --

Paraphrase:

Hope is like the bird that lives in the heart of human being. It sings a song that has no words.
It never stops singing a song.

Stanza 2

And sweetest -- in the Gale -- is heard --

And sore must be the storm-- That

could abash the little Bird That kept so

many warm--

Paraphrase:

Hope continuous its sweet and delightful song in spite of hardships and so many troubles. It
does not care of anything. It is hope that keeps one's warm and happy.

Stanza 3

I've heard it in the chillest land --

And on the strangest Sea--

Yet,never, in Extremity,

It asked a crumb-- of Me.

Paraphrase:

Hope is the only thing which exists within the hardest conditions and the difficulties, whether
we are in the coldest land or in thesea. It never asked me for any payment. Its service is free.
