1. Sources: As anyone with CP9 can tell this OB has some heavy revisions (I guess that is why
I
am typically called a "revisionist historian"). The sources for the changes are: comments from
Frank Chadwick that appeared in CP9, information provided by Maurizio Bragaglia (of the old
CD discussion group), Jack Greene's and Alessandro Massignani's book Rommel's North Africa
Campaign, a discussion on the Axis History Forum, and George Nafziger’s three volume Italian
Order of Battle World War II and Nafziger’s The Afrika Korps. Plus a vast amount of additional
information was provided by Arturo Lorioli (who is a wonderful person for helping me).
2. Infantry: The infantry battalions of the semi-motorized infantry divisions had reformed to
the
A.S. 42 organization. Evidence suggests that the Bersaglieri battalions and the motorized
infantry battalions of the Trento and Trieste divisions and the GGFF Regimental Group reformed
in June 1942 after the Gazala campaign. The Bologna and Sabratha divisions were under
strength, having only two infantry battalions per regiment rather than three as called for by the
official A.S. 42 organization.
3. 3rd Bersaglieiri Antitank Battalion: This unit was probably still reforming in Italy and not

present in May 1942. It was clearly present with the Ariete Division by October 1942.
