Pattern Notes
● The finished piece is approximately 10” long, 9 ½” tall, and 5 ½” wide when made with the recommended
tools and materials.
● All parts of this pattern are worked with the size G/4.25MM hook.
● All parts of this pattern are worked using the yarn-over technique and in continuous rounds unless otherwise
stated.

Push on top of vessel lip until R1-R7 are inverted and form a hole. Insert stuffing lighty into the internal
R14 gap between the divot and vessel lip. 20

Assembly
Step
Pin two of the legs between R8 and R16 of the body with 3 stitch spaces between them. Pin the other two legs between
R19 and R27 of the body with 3 stitch spaces in between them. Take care to align the front and hind pair of legs with one
1 another. Sew in place.

Pin the horns between R1 and R7 of the head at the desired angle. Pin the snout between R3 and R9 of the head, near
2 the space between the horns. Sew in place.

Remove the stuffing from the inside of the head. Insert the safety eyes on either side of the snout (slighty above the
3 midline of the snout). Re-insert the stuffing inside the head.

4 Pin the head facing forward between R5 and R17 of the body. Sew into place.

5 Pin the vessel lip between R19 and R26 of the body. Take care to center the vessel lip with the head. Sew into place.

6 Hide all yarn ends inside work.

Acknowledgements & Dedication

This pattern was inspired by a Philistine bovine libation vessel. At time of publication, this vessel is featured in the
collection of the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. The original piece was made in the
7th century BCE near modern day Hebron, Palestine.

This pattern is dedicated to the unknown Philistine pottery maker who crafted the original vessel, to all the beautiful
and creative artists like them that live in the world today, and to all people whom neither time nor enemy could erase.
