Tutorial 6

This document provides 4 tutorial questions about signal sampling and time-division multiplexing: 1) It asks to determine the minimum sampling rate required for 5 different signals. 2) It asks about the bandwidth of the guard band and guard time for a low pass signal sampled at 4 kHz with a bandwidth of 1.6 kHz. 3) It asks to set up a time-division multiplexing scheme for 6 message sources with different bandwidths and to determine the maximum transmission bandwidth. 4) It asks about the pulse spacing and sampling rate for a time-division multiplexed system with 24 voice signals, including a synchronization pulse.

Tutorial Sheet - 5

1) Determine the minimum sampling rate required to sample the following signals a) 1+ cos 2 10 3 t b) 1+ cos 2 10 3 t + sin 2 4 10 3 t t c) 2sinc 3 2 10 t d) 4sinc2 3 2 10 f for 2000 f 2000 1 e) g ( f ) = 2000 otherwise 0 2) A Low pass signal has a Bandwidth = 1.6 kHz is sampled at frequency fs = 4 kHz. Determine the Bandwidth of the guard Band and guard Time. 3) Six independent message sources of Bandwidth ; w, w, 2w, 2w, 3w, 3w Hz are to be transmitted on a TDM basis using s common carrier channel. a) Set up a scheme for accomplishing this multiplexing requirement with each signal sampled at its Nyquist rate. b) Determine maximum transmission Bandwidth of this system. c) Also show the implementation if above system using the idea of Pulse Stuffing. 4) Twenty-four voice signals are sampled uniformly and then time-division multiplexed. The sampling operation uses flat-top samples with 1 s duration. The multiplexing operation includes provision for synchronization by adding an extra pulse of sufficient amplitude and also1 s duration. The highest frequency component of each voice signal is 3.4 kHz. a) Assuming a sampling rate of 8 kHz, calculate the spacing between successive pulses of the multiplexed signal. b) Repeat your calculation assuming the use of Nyquist rate sampling.
