Blackhand Gorge Trail
On September 1, we have an opportunity to hike the Blackhand Gorge Trail in Newark, OH and raise money for the National Center for Children and Families as well as support a local charity. We are looking for a team or teams of 6 to 10 people. You may hike the entire trail out and back for a total of 8.5 miles or any increment that you would like. This trail is 4.25 miles in length and there is parking available at both ends. This is in conjunction with One Voice Trekking. The fee for each team is $300. If the teams have 10 people that will be $30 per person. We also ask that you bring a canned food item to benefit a local food pantry. If you are unable to hike with us but would like to contribute toward the fee that would be a wonderful way to assist this charity that ministers to children and families in need. We will meet at the church building at 8 a.m. If you would like to participate, a signup sheet will be posted on the bulletin board or you may contact Scott Brown.

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
Remember when you were a child and you would bring home a paper that had a gold star on it? Maybe your teacher also wrote a note and shared how pleased she was with your performance as a student. That was a special time! It may just seem like a little thing, now that you are an adult, but when you accomplished it you felt great. Well, we have some great things going on right now at FACC and although you may not receive a gold star, people are noticing the difference you are making in this life and in this church. Keep it up! Some of you are beginning to flesh out your faith even more lately. As you serve Him, lets do it all for the glory of God. I want to challenge each of us be live authentic lives for Christ and be known for holding on firmly to His truth. Scripture says, I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 4) Todays sermon will challenge us to become empowered and energized by the power of Holy Spirit. If you havent read the book, Forgotten God, then I encourage you to pick up a copy from Praises Bookstore and stretch your mind as never before of the Spirits role in your Christian life. In His Service, Brad
BITS FROM BRO. DAVE
PERSONAL NOTE: I want to say thank you to all you dear ones who remembered our birthdays and anniversary. We appreciate your cards and thoughts. We really enjoyed our opportunity to celebrate our 55th anniversary in the mountains of Virginia. NEW HORIZONS RETREAT: This senior event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11. This excellent program is hosted by the North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville. We have attended the past several years and always found it inspirational and entertaining. Registrations are limited, but you may still register. The fee is $25 per person. This includes a continental breakfast and lunch. We will be departing the church at 7:30 am and returning around mid-afternoon. A sign-up sheet is posted, along with registration forms. See me if you have questions. WEDNESDAYS: Our 10:00 am & 6:30 pm study groups will be returning on September 12. Our topic, for the first several weeks, will be The Church Through The Centuries. This will be a condensed look at the birth and development of the church through the 20th century. I do hope you will plan to join us.
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:
SCOTTS THOUGHTS
When we engage in a lifestyle of worship, we honor God by giving Him the place He deserves in our lives. Romans 12 teaches us this is the only reasonable response. Verse 1 says And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. In view of what God has done for us we are called to surrender all we are to him. This is the kind of declaration of Gods worth in our lives that he recognizes as placing him first in our lives. Worship is a statement of honor and no one is worthy but God. Placing God first in our lives puts all of lifes questions and difficulties in a heavenly perspective and enables us to honor God in our choices. Next week we will talk about how that becomes an encouragement to those around us. In the meantime, Lord help us to put you first in our lives and give you the worship you deserve every day that we live.
In August, these sessions are being replaced with some very special guest speakers. I urge you to be a part of these Sunday evening events. I will return to this spot, on September 9, with a series of lessons based on II Corinthians. FINAL THOUGHT: A nice thing about being imperfect is the joy it brings to others.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Sermon Notes ________________________
________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ______________________________________
Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Church Health and Biblical Balance
Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)
Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Fellowship and Ministry
After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.
________________________________________ How Can I Respond Today? ____
At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.
Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR PURPOSE WE EXIST TO
Exalt Gods Greatness; Evangelize Gods Work Equip Gods People Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ
OUR MISSION
To Love God and Love People!

Book Spotlight
The Legend of the Three Trees adapted by Catherine McCafferty is the featured childrens book in our library. Three young trees have big dreams for their future. The olive tree wants to be a treasure chest, the oak tree hopes to be a mighty ship, and the pine tree only wants to stay on the mountain and point others to God. This book teaches children that Gods dreams for us can be even bigger than those we dare to dream for ourselves. The Velvet Shadow by Angela Elwell Hunt is an adult Christian fiction book in our library. When Flanna OConnor, a young medical student in Boston, is cut off from her family in Charleston at the start of the Civil War, she decides to disguise herself and move south with the Union Army. Flanna has to trust God with her future and her life!
