Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North BEYOND OTTAWA 20/20 the OFFICIAL PLAN REVIEW
Every five years the City of Ottawa is required to redo its major planning documents. This review of the Official Plan, Transportation Master Plan and the Infrastructure Master Plan, called "Beyond Ottawa 20/20", was launched last week. It is starting with a public consultation process featuring a series of nine White Papers and four Rural Discussion Papers written to inform discussion and debate on the issues facing the City as it manages growth in the future. You are invited to review these papers and submit comments and suggestions to the City as a first step in the process. You are asked to provide your initial comments by December 9, 2007. Further public consultations will occur as the plans progress in 2008. Staff will review and consider all the information received and use it to prepare the Official Plan, Transportation Master Plan and Infrastructure Plan for the next 20 years with adoption by City Council early in 2009. The plan is important for Kanata North as it determines the extent of urban development, timing for construction of roads and other infrastructure, and employment policies. All of the white papers are available at the Client Service Centres (Kanata's is at 580 Terry Fox Drive), library branches and on the City's Web. More information is available at https://ottawa.ca/index_en.html
MAYOR TO OUTLINE HIS BUDGETS PROPOSALS
On Wednesday, November 7th Mayor OBrien will outline his suggestions on how to reduce city costs at a Breakfast at City Hall. I look forward to hearing these and then in discussing them with members of Council and the public. Budget pressures are very severe this year due to a number of years of cuts. I favour a detailed review of each City program as a means of ensuring value for your tax dollars rather than across the board cuts to services that many people depend on. I appreciate suggestions Ive received and look forward to more suggestions once the budget is released on November 14th.
