The Kanata North Ward Council meeting will be held on October 20th at the Kanata Seniors Centre. Representatives from Trinity Development will present plans for a new shopping center and residential development at March Road and Maxwell Bridge Road. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the development plans. Moody's Investor Services reaffirmed the City of Ottawa's highest AAA credit rating based on its prudent financial management and reserve position. The Snow Go Program provides eligible low-income seniors and people with disabilities financial assistance for snow removal costs.

KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North WARD COUNCIL FEATURES MARCH ROAD SHOPPING COMPLEX

The Kanata North Ward Council will be held on Oct. 20 starting at 7 pm in the Program Room at the Kanata Seniors Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive. The featured development presentation is the Shopping Centre to be built at the corner of March Road and Maxwell Bridge Road. The development also includes March House at Klondike Road and March. Development of this site will be coordinated with the construction of a widened March Road. Representatives of Trinity Development will be present to answer your questions on this development. There will also be a discussion about a zoning request from Urbandale for their new development on the Goulbourn Forced Road that seeks to reduce side and rear yard setbacks and increase the lot coverage to 55% of the site. My report will focus on recent city issues including changes in organization and staffing, legal issues, transit routes, road needs, traffic, parks, the 2009 budget, winter operations, and my forthcoming trip to China. Constable Strotmann will report on police and safety issues and attendees will have an opportunity to report on upcoming events and any issue that is of concern to them. You will also get information about invasive plants that are threatening our parks and natural environment areas and get an update on the South March Highlands study.

A VISION FOR OUR MAIN STREET


Keep Wednesday, Nov. 12 open and come to a session to update the vision for Kanatas Main Street that was prepared in 1993. The report of that exercise is on my website.

FINANCIAL RATING
Moodys Investor Services has reconfirmed the Citys AAA rating which is the highest rating given by Moodys. Their report states that the rating is based on a history of prudent financial management, low debt burden, strong reserve position and stable economic base. The report also mentions the Citys commitment to long-range financial planning, pay-as-you-go capital financing and

controls on new tax supported borrowing. Moodys refers to the Fiscal Framework that provides specific guidelines designed to bolster financial and debt operations over the medium term. Maintaining the AAA rating is important to the Citys debt financing activities to ensure that city debentures are eligible investments at the best possible rate with the widest range of investments possible, especially in the challenging financial markets that currently exist.

SNOW GO PROGRAM
As I was writing this column I heard on the news of snow in Northern Ontario! Yes, winter is coming and although we hope for a little less snow than last year, were sure to have some. The City is again organizing the Snow Go Program, under which eligible low-income seniors and people with disabilities may apply to receive financial assistance to pay for a portion of their snow and ice removal costs (up to 50% of the cost to a seasonal maximum of $250). In Kanata this program is managed through the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre. Call 613-591-3686 for further information. .
