Mini Stool
THINGS REQUIRED
Card paper, 12 matchsticks (cut off the head, leave four of the same size, cut out four into a smaller size and cut the remaining four into an even smaller size figures 1,2, 3), scissors and glue.
METHOD
1. Cut out a small square from the card paper as shown in figure4. 2. Make a frame with four of the smallest matchsticks (figure 3) and stick the card paper on to it. 3. Make the legs of the stool with the longest matchsticks and the bottom frame with the matchsticks on figure 2. And voila, your mini stool is ready!
Paper Apple
THINGS REQUIRED
Old socks red or white, One ot two sheets of newspaper, A rubber band, Fevicol, Cotton
METHOD
Make a cutout of a circle having a diameter of 10 inch. Cut this circle into half.
Take one piece and make a cone by pasting the two sides together. Push the pointed edge inside. Now take a newspaper and tear it into small pieces. Crumble the pieces into small balls and fill the cone with these pieces. Fold the edge of the cone and fix it with a tape. Apply fevicol all around the cone and stick cotton over it completely. Put a rubber band tightly in the middle of the cone. Press the whole thing to give it a shape of an apple. Now take an old socks and close one side by putting a knot. Invert it and put the cone into it. Stretch it tightly, put a knot on the other end and cut the remaining part. Insert a strong thread through the bottom part of the apple till it emerges through the top. Push the bottom up and the top down and tie it tightly. Your apple is ready. If you are using a white socks, colour it red. Take a small wire and fix it as the stalk. Your apple is ready! You can make different fruits like this.
Teapoy
THINGS REQUIRED
Four empty mineral water bottles with the cap, a paper plate, strong glue like Fevicol and string.
METHOD
1. Keep three bottles together and tie them tightly as shown here. 2. Apply a little glue and fix another bottle upside down over them. 3. Apply a little Fevicol and fix the paper plate on the top. 4. You can use a rolled-up sheet of paper or a cardboard tube instead of the fourth bottle.
Make A Letter-holder
THINGS REQUIRED
Paper plates, cardboard, glue
METHOD
"If you can get hold of two paper plates you can make a letter holder for your house. Here's how: Cut one of the paper plates in half. Glue it to the other plate by its rims. Finally glue this pocket to a rectangular piece of cardboard. Colour and decoarate the cardboard with pictures cut from old magazines. Your letter-holder is ready. Write the word 'Letters' at the top and suspend it from a wall."
Rooster Bookmark
THINGS REQUIRED
A large sheet of tinted paper. An icecream stick. Scissors. Glue and colours.
METHOD
1. Trace the roosters head on a square of tinted paper. Cut along the outline. Make neat folds along the dotted lines as shown in the figure. 2. Cut the remaining sheet into four squares. Fold them in half. Trace out the wattle and the crest on one square, cut along the outline and unfold. Trace out the wings on the other three squares. Cut along the outlines and unfold. You get 3 pairs of wings of different sizes. 3. Cut out three strips of tinted paper of varying lengths for the roosters tail. Make narrow cuts on the strips. See illustration. 4. Glue the wings, tail feathers, wattle and crest on the body of the rooster. Fix it on an ice cream stick. 5. Colour the rooster in bright hues.
The Walnut Boat
THINGS REQUIRED
The shell of half a walnut, varnish, brush, a used stamp, a toothpick, fevicol, sand and water.
METHOD
1. Clean and dry the walnut shell. Apply a coat of varnish with the help of a brush and leave it to dry. 2.Fill the walnut shell with sand and sprinkle just enough water to make it damp. 2. Stick an old stamp at one end of the toothpick. 3. Fix the other end of the toothpick in the sand. Your walnut boat is ready for sailing."
Bulb Buffoon
THINGS REQUIRED
An opaque white or coloured bulb (a fused one), a large colourful printed balloon, a cardboard square, strong glue and red and black marble paper.
METHOD
1. Stick the bulb onto the cardboard square with glue. 2. Cut out eyebrows and eyes from the black marble paper. 3. Cut out a nose and mouth from the red paper. 4. Stick these on the bulb as shown. 5. Now slip the open end of the balloon over the metal portion of the bulb.
The Ice-Stick Horse
THINGS REQUIRED
5 ice-cream sticks, 2 matchboxes, a sheet of plain white paper, sketch pens and glue.
METHOD
1. Draw and colour the horse's tail and mane on the plain white sheet of paper. Cut these and keep
aside. Stick the remaining white paper on the two matchboxes. 2.Draw the horse's body with a saddle on one matchbox. Stick the tail at one end. Then draw the horse's head on the other matchbox. 3. Colour four icecream sticks to resemble the horse's legs. Stick them on to the matchbox 'body'. 4. Stick the matchbox 'head' at the top of the 5th ice-cream stick, the mane just below it and the matchbox body at the lower end of the stick. You now have a cute little horse to play with.The Ice-Stick Horse
A Water Fountain
THINGS REQUIRED
A glass bottle with a cork, a basin, some colour powder or dye, sellotape, a straw, a tiny piece of sponge, little cold water and a little hot water.
METHOD
1) Make a hole in the centre of the cork, big enough to insert a straw. 2) Fill half the bottle with cold water. Mix the water with colour powder or dye and close the bottle with the cork. 3) Insert the straw and stick some sellotape around the corks opening so that it is absolutely airtight. 4) Cover the open end of the straw with a tiny piece of sponge. 5) Now place the bottle in a basin. Pour very hot water inside the basin. Remove the sponge from the straws top end and see how the coloured water gushes out of the bottle like a fountain.
Creative Envelope
THINGS REQUIRED
An envelope, crayons or felt pens, chart paper and glue.
METHOD
1. Observe the picture and draw a face on the envelope with the help of crayons and felt pens. 2. Draw and cut out a pair of ears on some chart paper, as seen in the picture. 3. Next, fix the ears to the top two corners of the envelope as indicated. 4. You can even draw and cut out a tail and paste it behind the face of the envelope. 5. Your colourful and creative envelope is now ready for use.
A Paper Pot
THINGS REQUIRED
Lots of old newspapers; an old plant pot; some flour (maida) mixed with water to form a thick paste; varnish; paints and paint brush.
METHOD
1. Tear the newspapers into tiny pieces. 2. Apply a layer of the flour paste outside the pot and stick the newspaper bits over this until the pot is completely covered. 3. Once again spread a layer of the flour paste and stick a layer of newspaper bits over it. Repeat till you have stuck at least six layers of newspaper bits on the pot. 4. Leave it to dry completely. 5. Gently slide the pot out of the paper pot that has formed around it. 6. Paint the paper pot and when completely dry, apply a coat of varnish.
Paintbrush Squirrel
THINGS REQUIRED
A large-sized used paintbrush with thick hairs; green marble paper; grey chart paper or tinted paper; tracing paper; pencil; paints; piece of cardboard; scissors and glue.
METHOD
1. Trace out the squirrel shape on a folded piece of chart paper or tinted paper. Cut out completely along the outline. You will get two squirrels. Paint the eyes and stripes on the squirrel as shown. 2. Trace out the leaves on a piece of green marble paper folded lengthwise. You will get a long creeper of leaves when you open out the paper. 3. Stick the squirrel on the hairy end of the brush, one piece on each side, with the brush inbetween. The brush hair will be the squirrels bushy tail! 4. On the wooden handle of the brush, twine the creeper of leaves and stick. 5. Now fix the whole brush on a piece of cardboard. It will look as if the squirrel is climbing up a tree!
MATERIALS NEEDED : Old newspapers Glue Waste invitation cards/Chart paper STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED : 1) Tear a page in two halves . Fold it and tear it again to get rectangle or square shape. 2) Roll it as shown and glue it in the end.
3) Make a rectangle shape out of waste cards , to form the base for the box. 4) Make rolls of paper as per requirement and glue to the card to form the box.Glue one roll over the other. 5) Box is ready to store clips/safety pins/Visiting cards .
