New Years Prayer

Dear Lord, In the new year, we pray that You will guide us each new day in paths that are pleasing to You. Lord, the new year gives us another chance to rededicate our lives to You, to study Your Word so that we know right from wrong and to act in accordance with Your commands. Thank You for the sense of direction, purpose and peace we get from aligning our lives with Your Holy will. We pray for the strength and the will to obey You each and every day of the new year, and when we fail, we pray for Your mercy, Your compassion, Your grace and Your love. Help us in the new year to be Your faithful servants. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

2nd Worship 10:30 a.m. Bible School 9:15 a.m. Evening Worship 6:00 p.m.

A schedule for reading through the Bible in 2013 is on the back of the January calendar. We hope that you make reading Gods Word a part of your daily life.

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas as much as I did. I want to thank Hannah for the childrens program. The kids were great! I also thank Scott for organizing the Christmas Eve service. The night really helped prepare our minds for Christmas morning with our families. Stephanie Tingler is owed a BIG THANK YOU for stepping in at the last minute to accompany the Christmas Eve service due to our pianists illness. God is good! As indicated last week, I want to share briefly about our core value of Christ-centered worship. In worship, I want to suggest you approach worship with reckless abandon. That may flip the table on what you think worship is and worshiping God the way God wants to be worshiped. Reckless abandon says, Im not ashamed of God, and will dance like David danced and not worry about those around me. I will lift my hands when prompted by the Holy Spirit and not worry about what the guy sitting behind me thinks. I will run to the front of the auditorium and fall on my face before God in front of the stage and totally abase myself so that God may be exalted. I will think only of being with God and not be concerned with how well I sing, that I get the words to the song right, that I stand, sit or kneel because thats what people expect. I will die to myself so that I might live for Christ! Reckless abandon is the call of the humble, the duty of the called and act of the chosen. In 2013, we plan to have our second service evolve into a worship experience where you will be encouraged to worship with reckless abandon. In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

PERSONAL NOTE: Sue, and I, wish to

thank each of you who favored us with cards and gifts during the holiday season. We are touched by your expressions of love. May God grant all of us another year of health and happiness!
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

This week (12/30) we will continue our series of lessons from II Corinthians. The message, this week, is Investing Wisely (II Corinthians 9:1-15). On 1/6 Coping With Criticism (II Corinthians 10:1-18) and on 1/13 the theme will be Beware of Counterfeits (II Corinthians 11:1-15). Four additional messages will complete this series. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: On Wednesday, January

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
What does this next year hold for you? What will God do in your family? What will He call us to as a church family? As we enter a new year and many of us are considering what we want to do differently, let me encourage you to ask God what He would like to do differently in you, with you and through you in order to further His Kingdom. A couple of weeks ago in Brads message we were reminded of John the Baptist and his declaration that I must become less and He must become more. For those of us who are in Christ, this must also apply to us. In the coming year, will you join me in praying that God help us to die to self daily so that He may live in us. It is my sincere desire to see the Kingdom of God grow in this place and around the world. I believe that is best accomplished when we are focused on reaching the lost and pursue that purpose with a sense of urgency. If you dont know Jesus, you NEED to. If you do know Jesus, how can you be a part of reaching others with His love, grace and mercy? Lord, empty us of self, that we might be filled with you. Help us to follow Jesus in self-sacrifice to see the salvation of others.

9, we will begin a new series of lessons on the book of Ephesians. This will be a chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse examination of this Epistle. Study questions will be provided. Remember, we meet at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm each week. The same material is covered in each session. Why not start the new year with us in one of these study groups?
COMING EVENTS: Keenagers, watch this

spot for announcements upcoming activities!

Last week in Childrens Church we performed our Christmas Program! Thank you to all the kids for your hard work and to the parents for helping out! Our goal was to give it our all and Glorify God through our program so I hope that we did just that. I had a blessed week, celebrating Jesus birth on Christmas and I hope you did the same! Now on to New Years! I have been praying for this New Year and what it will bring for our Church. I ask you all to do the same. If anyone is looking for a New Years Resolution I have a suggestion! Make your goal for 2013 to get more involved in the Ministry of our church. Whether it be helping with the youth, joining one of our classes or maybe committing this year to prayer for our congregation! I know that God has big things planned for this year. Hannah

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
