Personal pride is valued over many things. Intelligence and ability is not appreciated. People strive to project affluence and social position. Appearance, image and human relationships are very important.

Mexicans will not dirty their hands with hard work they get. Mexicans are born with macho attitudes and manly plays a pervasive role in shaping Mexican culture.

Meeting and greeting

Body Language

When meeting a Spaniard shake hands with everyone including men, women and children. Shake hands again when leaving. Women kiss each other on the cheek. To a Spaniard you do not know well, you should never touch, hug or back slap unless they touch you first. Spaniards dont really like to greet people. Instead they talk to get to know each other better. When you are talking to a Spaniard expect to be interrupted when speaking. You should always be patient. You should not do any thing

When Mexicans meet they shake hands or give a slight bow. When greeting a Mexican woman you bow. Shake her hand only if she extends her hand first. Mexicans often handshake or hug longer than Americans and Canadians do.

The Portuguese are very strict to their traditions. They are very conservative. The Catholic Church has a strong influence on cathlics. Life is easy, especially in rural areas. After work the Portuguese go home and entertain on weekends only. Shake hands with men, women and children when you are at a business or social meeting. Shake hands again when leaving.

Portuguese dont really use body gestures. Do not over exaggerate with hand shakes or body language. In a business many younger managers speak English, it is appreciated if you have a translater to speak Portuguese. Portugal is not part of Spain. They do not speak Spanish or Brazilian.

Spanish is the language you need to speak to make a business succeed. You may need to hire a person who knows how to speak both English and Spanish. Mexicans are very proud of their independence. You should never compare the way things are done in Mexico and with the U.S.

Mexicans will not dirty their hands with hard work they get. Mexicans are born with macho attitudes and manly plays a pervasive role in shaping Mexican culture.

Cultural achievement is Italy's greatest sense of pride. Intelligence and education are prized. Personal relations are mainly maintained with loyalty especially in families. Ladies should extend their hand first to men when greeting and leaving. Friends may greet each other with a kiss on the cheeks. Maintain eye contact while talking. If you dont, Italians might think you are hiding a secret. Italians take business meetings very seriously and expect that you will do the same. If you are late to a meeting they think its sloppy. Business cards are used only in business.

Japan is a high-class society. But what is most important is placed on loyalty, politeness, personal responsibility and on everyone

Silence is natural for Japanese people. They Do not feel a need to chatter. Keep in mind that initial negotiations begin with middle managers. Do not try to get to senior management. You can use a Japanese company interpreter in the first meeting.

Helpful Hints

Mexicans are very proud of their independence. You should never compare the way things are done in Mexico and with the U.S.

Italians enjoy a lot of good jokes. They stand when an older person enters the room for the elder can sit.

Try to avoid the number "four" if possible.it has a consequence if you say it you might die.
