In order of preference...

Ranma 1/2: I know this one is super old-school and doesn't have the most attractive characters, but it is seriously the most hilarious series I've ever read. Give it a try if you like slapstick humor and compromising situations.

Skip Beat!: Plain-looking Kyouko vows to enter the entertainment industry in order to seek revenge on childhood friend and pop-idol Shou after he breaks her heart. Super hilarious. She's a high-school student and attends school, but it focuses more on the entertainment world. My current personal favorite.

Ouran High School Host Club: Boyish "commoner" Haruhi becomes sucked into her school's popular "host club" after breaking an expensive vase... unfortunately, all of the members of the club are a little crazy.

Fruits Basket: Cheerful Tohru meets the descendants of the Chinese Zodiac animals (plus a cat)...who ironically turn into said animals when hugged by someone of the opposite sex. Not as ridiculous as it sounds, really.

Kimi ni Todoke: Cute high-school love story about a "refreshing" well-liked boy and an awkward yet kindhearted girl who is often mistaken for Sadako (from "The Ring)... Won a Kodansha manga award! Not all comedy, but very touching.

Dengeki Daisy: Bad-tempered school janitor and computer hacker Kurosaki cons high-school student and orphan Teru into servitude... but their connection goes deeper than Teru realizes. (By the same author as Beast Master)

Lovely Complex: The very amusing and slightly awkward relationship between super-tall girl Koizumi and super-short boy Ootani.

Beast Master: Short, two-volume manga about a high school girl who loves animals and yet is hated by them who befriends a kind boy who naturally attracts animals... however, he becomes a "beast" when he sees blood. Super cute and sadly overlooked, I would definitely recommend this one.

Special A: Hikari, to her extreme annoyance, always comes in second place at everything to classmate Kei. High school setting, comedy and romance!

Gakuen Alice: Actually about elementary school kids, but some of them (aka Natsume) are perverted enough to pass as high schoolers... super hilarious, thanks to the idiotic and hyperactive main character.

Kodocha (aka Kodomo no Omocha aka Child's Toy): Also about elementary schoolers (who eventually become middle schoolers), but is super funny. Hyper child actress Sana butts heads with fellow classmate and lone-wolf bully Hayama.

Gentlemen's Alliance +: Haine finds herself thrown into the student council and school politics at her rich-kid academy while searching for her first love. Has

themes of (very tame!) homosexuality within some of the supporting characters, so if you can't stand that, I would suggest not reading this one.

Otokomae Beads Club: Super tomboyish Ibuki pretends to be a feminine lady with a hobby for beading, which leads her to the crazy and "manly" beads club, as well as its perverted "crow messenger" president. (Also by the creator of Dengeki Daisy and Beast Master)

Karin aka Chibi Vampire: Karin's a vampire, but instead of feeding on the blood of others, she gives hers away because she overproduces blood. Add in a human boy with slightly scary eyes, and you get...what else? LURVE

Absolute Boyfriend (by Yuu Watase): High school girl gets rejected all the time. So she jokingly orders the "perfect guy" online and ends up in 1,000,000 yen debt. Story's a little clich, but the art is nice!

Barajou no Kiss: Anis was given a so-called protective and seemingly indestructible rose choker by her father and warned to never take it off or else she would be punished... instead she finds herself in a convoluted love quadrangle with four (and maybe even five) hot guys. Kind of cliche, magic girly type of manga, but pure fun with great protagonists.

romance+comedy= my favourite kind of anime and manga =D

Here are a few that I can think of right now *Ouran High Host Club - Not too heavy on the romance but funny. A poor girl stumbles into the host club room and breaks a vase. She has to pretend to be a boy and earn back the money she owes them.

*Love Hina (and Love Hina Again) - Also more funny than romantic. A guy moves into an apartment-like complex only to discover that it's girls-only, but his aunt owns it so he gets to stay. One of the girls there might be his first love from when he was a kid.

*The Wallflower - Four gorgeous guys get to live in a mansion rent free for 3 years...if they can turn the owner's niece into a soft, well-groomed lady. The niece also happens to be a self-loathing, creepy, horror-loving girl. Really funny.

*Marmalade Boy - A girl and a guy whose parents swap partners and end up living in the same house (girl's mum+boy's dad, boy's mum+girl's dad), it's a really long series...70+ epis but the manga is 8 vols. Funny, romantic, dramatic, cry-worthy.

*Boys Over Flowers - A poor girl gets into a rich school where 4 of the top guys in school rule it. The girl ends up insulting the group and they start harrassing her but obviously they fall in love. Funny, romatc, dramatic, makes you cry sometimes. Anime is 50+ epis long and manga is 36 vols.

*Chobits - World where computers take a human form, a poor pre-college student finds one in the trash. Turns out she might be a "Chobit" from the legends. Funny, cute.

*Absolute Boyfriend - A girl orders a robot boyfriend because she's sick of not having a boyfriend. Turns out her next dorr neighbour and childhood friend is in love with her. Lots of drama...love triangle. Dramatic, funny.

*Love for Venus - Girl enters college and falls in love with a guy...whose best friend also seems to like him (best friend is a guy). Funny and heartwarming.

beauty pop = think of ouran except with hairstyling instead of hosting

lovely complex= love/hate relationship between the main characters

but if you liked marmalade boy i'd say also try good morning call. it's really cute and funny =) its not as funny as some of the others but its good

also w-juliet has a lot of humor since its another gender-bender . it's also adorable.

and while i'm at it i'll throw in kamikaze kaitou jeanne simply cause its one of my favorite manga ever XD;;;
