Stage 3 Handwriting Program Term 1, 2012

Aim of the program: Students use a fluent and legible style to write and to present written texts effectively for different purposes and audiences. (English K-6 Stage 3 Foundation Statement) Outcomes: WS3.12 Produces texts in a fluent and legible style. Indicators: * uses correct pen grip and maintains correct body position * uses finger movements to control the pen while sliding forearm across the paper * writes fluently with appropriate size, slope and spacing Quality Teaching Focus: High Expectations Expect all students to achieve a deep understanding Support each child and know they will get there. Explicity Quality Criteria Direction- know what the outcomes are and how they will be assessed Students Self Regulation * Goals, deliberating and monitoring progress Success Criteria: For best success, Success Criteria should be developed in conjunction with students

Learning Experiences Introduce and demonstrate letter spacing (between letters as well as between words) and importance of keeping it all even. Introduce and demonstrate slope and importance of keeping it consistent. Introduce and demonstrate drop-in joins. Introduce and demonstrate horizontal joins. Introduce and demonstrate double s joins. Introduce and demonstrate double ff joins and ft joins. Review and demonstrate fluency joins. Introduce and demonstrate speed loops from body and tail letters (g, j, y). Introduce and demonstrate speed loops to head and body letters (l and h).
