Aztecas Turquoise Hispanic Los Santos Vagos Yellow Hispanic San Fierro Rifa Cyan Hispanic Da Nang Boys Vietnamese Triads Chinese Mafia Italian GSF Description: The Grove Street Families are a black afro-american street gang and one of th e oldest street gangs in Los Santos, San Andreas. They are also the native gang of protagonist Carl Johnson. They are the primary enemy of the Ballas, an intens e and ongoing rivalry as part of the Ballas-Grove Street War. The Families also maintain rivalries with the two mexican gangs in Los Santos - the Los Santos Vag os and the Varrios Los Aztecas. Their rivalry with the Varrios Los Aztecas is no t as intense as it is with the Ballas and Vagos. However, both gangs will still commonly fight. Kendl (sister of Grove Street Leader Sweet) ends up dating a mem ber (and possible an OG) of the Aztecas while CJ befriends him - much to the dis mayal of Sweet. Most of their territory can be found in the poorer/run-down neighborhoods of South Central Los Santos in the far east of the city, though they also have smal l pockets of territory elsewhere - including the rich area of Temple. They are e asily identifiable by their green gang color. They are headed by Sean "Sweet" Johnson and his previous lieutenants and OG's , Lance "Ryder" Wilson, Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris, and Carl Johnson. As far as street gangs in GTA San Andreas go, the GSF are depicted as more ho norable than their rival gangs. Coming from a background of older traditions, th ey are against hard drugs being sold on their turf as opposed to the Ballas and Vagos. They are well-known, however, for commiting numerous other crimes and vio lent acts including gun running/arms dealing, gang-banging, gang warfare, murder , gang-related homicide, robbery, vandalism, and street violence. GSF members drive the Greenwood, Voodoo and Savanna. Their favourite radio st ation to listen to is Radio Los Santos. They also have three different skins tha t will walk and drive around their territories. The first member has dreadlocks, wears a green button-up plaid/flannel checkered jacket, beige khaki pants and b lack and white hi-top sneakers. The second member is slightly overweight, wears a green bandana, green sweater, black jeans and white sneakers. The last member wears a backwards black baseball cap, a green #7 Rimmers basketball jersey, a cr oss necklace, black jeans and black and white sneakers. In the beginning, Grove members are either unarmed or carry pistols. However, upon completing Ryder's final mission, Robbing Uncle Sam, they also begin carry ing TEC 9 sub-machine guns. If the player sprays over all tags in Los Santos, th ey will replace the pistol and TEC 9 with the Deagle, MP5, and knifes. They can occasionally be seen smoking marijuana and drinking malt liquor while talking an d hanging around in groups. Green clothing is a dead give-away and members will often flash their gang handsigns. Upon spotting a Balla, Vago, or Azteca gang me mber, they will often engage in a violent confrontation (especially if Ballas). Members of the families, like other pedestrians, will often comment on CJ's atti re, physical looks, or his vehicle. The Ballas Description: The Ballas have been around since the 1970's. Specific information regarding where or how they formed is unknown. However, it is likely that the Ballas evolv ed either from Glen Park or Jefferson since Idlewood and Willowfield were contro lled by the Grove Street Families prior to 1992 and since East Los Santos was sp lit between the Grove Street Families and the Vagos prior to 1992.
The Ballas have a history of a traditional, intense, and bloody rivalry with the Grove Street Families. Specifically when the gang war started is unknown, bu t the rivalry between the two gangs was in full swing as early as 1987. The Ballas were responsible for the death of Beverly Johnson - the mother of Carl Johnson and Grove Street leader Sweet in a drive-by shooting that was targe ting the Johnson House in Grove Street. The actual objective was to hit Sweet, b ut he was elsewhere. In addition to this, it is likely that the Ballas were also responsible for the death of many Grove Street OG's - including Little Devil, B ig Devil, and Tony, though the game doesn't specifically mention that it was the Ballas. It is also highly likely that the Ballas were responsible for the death of Br ian Johnson - the younger brother of CJ and Sweet. Again, though the game doesn' t actually mention that the Ballas were responsible, it is likely. Sweet also bl ames CJ in part for Brian's death. A likely scenario is that CJ left Brian to di e at the hands of some Ballas by accident. Prior to 1992, the Ballas used to control the area of Temple - which is under control of the Temple Drive Families in 1992. This is evidenced by the fact tha t the game references a fourth Balla set known as the "Temple Drive Ballas." Gra ffiti referring to the Temple Drive Ballas can also be found in Temple. It is th ought that they are either extinct and defunct in 1992, or that the set was a be ta decision scrapped by Rockstar for some reason. Varios Los Aztecas Description: http://gta.wikia.com/Varios_Los_Aztecas has no text. Los Santos Vagos Description: The Los Santos Vagos are the largest and most powerful Mexican/Latino street gang based in Los Santos and the 2nd most powerful overall gang at the beginning of the events in San Andreas. They are predominant in the far east and north of the city - within the poorer and more run-down neighborhoods of South Central L os Santos. They are fierce rivals of the other Los Santos Mexican gang, the Varrios Los Aztecas, and are also enemies with the Grove Street Families and the Ballas. The y're affiliated with the San Fierro Rifa, who were former enemies until the Rifa joined the narcotics business. The Vagos are also affiliated with the Russian M afia for weapons, the Loco Syndicate for narcotics, and C.R.A.S.H. for street in telligence. LSV members include drug-dealer Big Poppa and ex-convict Freddy. There are three different Vago skins that walk and drive around their territo ries. The first member is shirtless, wears a yellow bandana, black khaki pants, gray sneakers and has tattoos. The second member wears a white tank top, yellow bandana, beige khaki pants, and white and black sneakers. The last member is, ba ld-headed, wears a white tank top, yellow bandana, dark blue khaki shorts, knee high white socks and sandals, and a cross necklace. The Vagos primarily make money by selling drugs (especially crack cocaine), f rom which they gain money to buy weapons from the Russian Mafia - much like the Ballas, as evidenced by their wide range of weapons during a gang war. The Vagos are known to be extremely violent and will often attack in very lar ge groups from numerous directions in an attempt to swarm and flank their enemie s as part of their strategy. Most of their territory consists of close-quarter a reas with numerous alleyways and shortcuts which aids them to do this. The Vagos are involved in Gang-banging, robbery, street violence, murder, gang-related ho micide, gang warfare, drug dealing/manufacturing (especially the crack cocaine t rade), gun running/arms dealing, and vandalism. The Vagos appear to be the least armed gang in Los Santos, evidenced by the f act that members only carry the pistol. However, at the same time - they are one of the largest - and they use their size to their advantage. This contrasts to their primary enemy - the Varrios Los Aztecas, which function in the complete op posite way - they are the smallest but the most heavily armed. This puts the Azt ecas and Vagos on equal footing in terms of power. However, the Vagos are equipp ed with better firepower during some missions and gang wars.
Members are often seen drinking beer and smoking marijuana while hanging in g roups. They are easily identifiable by their yellow bandanas in addition to 90' s "cholo" style clothing. Vagos will also often flash Vago gang handsigns. Many memebers are often heavily tattooed with gang tattoos as part of their unique id entity. On the streets, they are either unarmed or carry the 9mm pistol. During a gang war, they carry the Micro-SMG, Baseball bat, SMG, AK47, and the 9mm pisto l. Upon spotting a Balla, Grove, or Azteca on their territory - they will often get into a violent confrontation (especially if Aztecas). They will also usually get into a violent confrontation upon spotting CJ walking or driving around the ir territory and will sometimes question his gang-banging status, and if the pla yer chooses to respond positively, the Vagos will attack. Interestingly, unlike the Afro-american gangs; the Vagos do not divide themse lves into different sets. Instead, they operate as one large gang. San Fierro Rifa Description: The San Fierro Rifa (or Rifa) is the sole Mexican gang led by T-Bone Mendez b ased in San Fierro, later seen to be collaborating with Big Smoke, the Ballas, L os Santos Vagos and Russian Mafia in the narcotics business. The Rifa also appea r to work as thugs and protection for the Loco Syndicate, possibly because leade r T-Bone Mendez is a co-leader of the Loco Syndicate. The Rifa also had a strong dislike towards Mexican gangs in Los Santos, until they joined the narcotics bu siness with Big Smoke and linked up with the Los Santos Vagos. The Rifa and Vago s often deal with each other in narcotics as seen in the mission Wrong Side of t he Tracks. They are also on unfriendly terms with the other San Fierro gangs - t he Chinese San Fierro Triads and the Vietnamese Da Nang Boys. Though confrontati ons are rare as territories are far and the focus of the Rifa is not based on a gang war with the other san fierro gangs and vice versa. The only gang the Rifa feel a strong dislike to is the Varrios Los Aztecas wh ich are well away from their territory and in a different city. Although the Rif a are also known for various clashes with the Grove Street Families and member ( and protagonist) Carl Johnson, they are normally not hostile towards the Familie s. They are the least threatening and violent on the streets; when the player at tacks them, they usually run, although they may come back and attack Carl and so me armed Rifas will attack him on sight, rather than running away from him brief ly. Nearby Rifa will also question Carl on his gang-banging status, if the playe r chooses to respond positively - the Rifa will sometimes (but not always) attac k as opposed to the Los Santos gangs who will almost always attack. Rifa members nearly have the same turqouise color bandanas that Varrios Los A ztecas wear (the Rifas colors are slightly more vibrant) but are not to be mista ken as a Northern set of the gang as they do not like each other. They have thre e different skins that will drive and patrol around their territories. The first member wears a white fedora, turqouise bandana, white beater, black pants, susp enders, black shoes and has tattoos. The second member wears sunglasses, a turqo uise bandana, black vest, a cross necklace, blue jeans, brown shoes and has tatt oos. The last member wears a collared blue T-shirt, turqouise bandana, black pan ts, suspenders, black shoes and also has tattoos. Despite the death of leader, T-Bone Mendez, the gang remains in existence in their turf throughout San Fierro, although following the destruction of the Loco Syndicate and their crack lab, it is unlikely they are involved in the drugs tr ade any further as there is nobody else to supply them. However, they were hired by Big Smoke for protection purposes of his crack em pire in collaboration with the Ballas, Los Santos Vagos, and Russian Mafia. The San Fierro Rifa gang members are seen driving Stallions, Sabres, and Blad es and listen to the radio station K-JAH West. Da Nang Boys Description: The gang is extremely violent, with major interests in protection, narcotics and human trafficking. While the Da Nang Boys are portrayed as a major Vietnames e gang in the city, two other sects, the Shining Razors and the Butterfly Childr
en, were mentioned in the game and in the official GTA San Andreas website, and are said to be active in Easter Basin. Their turf is mainly in Easter Basin and their main front is their ship anchored out in San Fierro Bay. They also have tu rf in Esplanade North and Esplanade East. The Da Nang Boys have three different members that walk and drive around their area; the first guy wears a gray army T -shirt, blue jeans, yellow shoes, a shaved head and tattoos. The second guy wear s sunglasses, gold and black robes, black pants and black shoes. The last guy we ars a black do-rag, a black Prolaps T-shirt, olive pants, black shoes, and has a black wristband on his right arm. They wield weaponry such as pistols and Micro Uzis. As for their gang cars, they are seen driving around in Tampas, Mananas a nd Buccaneers, and their favorite radio station seems to be Bounce FM, as eviden ced when the player jacks one of their gang vehicles. Triads Description: The San Fierro Triads are large gangs originating from Hong Kong, who have si nce moved to San Fierro. There are three Triad factions in San Fierro consisting of a set hierarchy with small sets answering to larger sets; the Blood Feather Triad, which would later be slaughtered by their rivals, the Da Nang Boys; the R ed Gecko Tong, which is led by Ran Fa Li, and the Mountain Cloud Boys (). The most p rominent gang in the group, the Mountain Cloud Boys, is operated by the blind Wu Zi Mu and answers to the Red Gecko Tong. The sets of the Triads are heavily involved in joint operations. The Mountain Cloud Boys establish an alliance with the Red Gecko Tong. The SF Triads are als o allied with the Grove Street Families, and are having problems with the Mafia (Leone Family, Forelli Family, Sindacco Family), and are enemies with the Da Nan g Boys. In addition to their bases of operations in San Fierro, the Triads also own a nd operate a casino hotel venture called The Four Dragons Casino on the southern tip of The Strip in Las Venturas; ownership is shared between Wu Zi Mu, Ran Fa Li and Carl Johnson. Because of intense Mafia pressure in the city, the Triads a ttempted to flex their muscles to show the Mafia that they can hold their own ca sino on The Strip. While the Triad's prime business is gambling, Wu Zi Mu has sh own motivations towards robbery and street racing. Carl Johnson, having been exiled from Los Santos after the fall of the Grove Street Families, works for Wu Zi Mu's faction and helps them destroy the Loco Sy ndicate and neutralize the Da Nang Boys. In return the Triads aid Carl in robbin g Caligula's Palace, give him a share in The Four Dragons Casino, and help him i n seizing Madd Dogg's mansion back from a Vagos drug dealer so the Grove Street Families could spearhead their return. The mansion serves as CJ's own base of op eration in his return to Los Santos. Triad members don all-black suits or all-grey suits. While the Triad gang mem bers appear on the streets in Chinatown and Calton Heights in San Fierro. Strang ely, they do not appear on Las Venturas streets, even areas surrounding the Four Dragons Casino, although they can be seen on several cutscenes and missions. Th ey usually wield AK-47s and pistols, however in certain missions they can be see n with different guns. Much like Varrios Los Aztecas will react generally friendly to CJ but will re act hostily to him if provoked.
